Green initiatives have become a phenomenon globally now. This has taken seriously all parties regarding the process of environmental sustainability. Sustainable Development Goals had been used as a guideline towards this agenda. The Malaysian government issued the Green Technology Policy in July 2009 to accelerate the national economy and promote sustainable development. Meanwhile, green technology has been applied to universities in Malaysia to achieve green campus status under the UI Green Metric. Numerous universities in Malaysia have begun to take this issue seriously, including UiTM Perak. Three research objectives had been developed; (1) to determine strategies in promoting green campus in UiTM Perak, (2) to identify challenges in implementing green campus in UiTM Perak and (3) to recommend solutions to overcome the challenges in implementing green campus in UiTM Perak. A qualitative method approach by using a semi-structured interview with the Green Campus Committee had been adopted. The data is analysed using content analysis. The research revealed that despite several green initiatives implemented by UiTM Perak, there are also challenges occurring. Among them are financial, awareness and knowledge. To overcome these challenges, the management of UiTM Perak had outlined several actions to be taken. In conclusion, the green campus initiative can give many benefits towards a sustainable environment in UiTM Perak. Indeed, this agenda needs support by all parties.

Purpose: This study investigated female enrolment into electrical/electronics engineering trade in technical colleges of Adamawa State in order to suggest ways of augmenting it for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2016-2030. Approach/ Methodology/ Design: Two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The sample of the study comprised of 38 teachers and 140 parents. A 50-item Female Enrolment in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Trade (FEEET) Questionnaire was developed by the researchers and used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by three experts from the Department of Electrical Technology Education, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State. Reliability co-efficient of 0.81 was obtained for the instrument using Cronbach’s Alpha reliability method. Mean statistic was used to answer the two research questions while z-test statistics was used to test the two hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings: The findings of the study revealed that inadequate knowledge on female participation in electrical/electronics engineering trade, hazards involved in working with electricity, and poor gender policy implementation among others were factors affecting female enrolment into the programme. Establishment of electrical/electronics engineering trade skill acquisition centres for females and provision of starter packs for female graduates of electrical/electronics engineering trade among others were strategies identified for improving female enrolment into the programme. Practical Implication: The study has practical implications for achieving sustainable development goals in Nigeria. A sustainable financing scheme for the female trainees of electrical/electronics engineering trade should be established in order to boost their interests in the programme. Originality/Value:  The study identified that inadequate knowledge on female participation in electrical/electronics engineering trade, hazards involved in working with electricity, societal perception about electricity, cultural sanctions on women, early marriages, and poor gender policy implementation are the main factors that affect female enrolment in technical colleges in Nigeria.

The increased availability of reliable and efficient energy services stimulates new development alternatives. This article discusses the potential for such integrated systems in the stationary and portable power market in response to the critical need for cleaner energy technology. Several issues relating to renewable energies, environment, and sustainable development are examined from both current and future perspectives throughout the theme. It is concluded that green energies like wind, solar, ground source heat pumps, and biomass must be promoted, implemented, and demonstrated from the economic and/or environmental point of view. Biogas from biomass appears to have potential as an alternative energy source, potentially rich in biomass resources. The current literature is reviewed regarding the ecological, social, cultural and economic impacts of biogas technology. Finally, this article gives an overview of the present and future use of biomass as an industrial feedstock to produce fuels, chemicals and other materials. However, to be truly competitive in an open market situation, higher-value products are required. Results suggest that biogas technology must be encouraged, promoted, invested, implemented, and demonstrated, especially in remote rural areas. Anticipated future energy use patterns and consequent environmental impacts (acid precipitation, ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, or global warming) are discussed in this article. An approach is needed to integrate renewable energies in a way to meet high building performance. However, their ability to match demand is determined by adoption of one of the following two approaches: the utilisation of a capture area greater than that occupied by the community to be supplied, or the reduction of the community’s energy demands to a level commensurate with the locally available renewable resources. Adopting green or sustainable approaches to how society is run is seen as an important strategy in finding a solution to the energy problem. The key factors to reducing and controlling CO2, which is the major contributor to global warming, are the use of alternative approaches to energy generation and the exploration of how these alternatives are used today and may be used in the future as green energy sources.

AbstractThis essay discusses governance in public policies for sustainable development in the Brazilian Amazon, with a focus on socio-biodiversity chains. The concept of institutional architecture is used to describe a framework of incentives (public and private) capable of promoting effectively profitable initiatives, with social and environmentally appropriate impact in the rural and forest context. The theory of transaction costs helps to understand how the State participates in these architectures, reducing risks and promoting coordinated investments in specific assets, offering a vision of the future, and mediating conflicts throughout the process of public policy implementation. The concept of governance is used within an expanded perspective, with complexity in the context in which cooperation between stakeholders occurs to produce local incentives that result in social and environmental development. The case of the Amazon illustrated with these architectures can be developed through a complex fabric of relationships that enhances private economic gains and values the standing forest.
