The purpose of this article is to research and to evaluate the risk factors of the transport system of Ukraine. The article examines the state of the transport system of Ukraine. The classification of specific risks of the transport system has been developed in two areas: the nature of occurrence and in relation to the transport system. The conceptual model of comprehensive research of the factors of economic risk has been proposed. It includes 4 modules. The approaches to the identification of the factors and indicators for assessing the economic risks of transport systems at the national and regional levels have been formed. In the result the comprehensive evaluation of the risk factors of regional transport system of Ukraine has been carried out. Identification of risks at the national and regional transport system is necessary for the effective strategy of the industry development through quantitative risk analysis which enables to give a real assessment of their own resources and capabilities in relation to the state (and needs) of the external environment. The rational choice of the strategies from a variety of options should be made on this basis.

Bicycle Sharing Systems (BSSs) are exponentially increasing in the urban mobility sector. They are traditionally conceived as a last-mile complement to the public transport system. In this paper, we demonstrate that BSSs can be seen as a public transport system in their own right. To do so, we build a mathematical framework for the classification of BSS trips. Using trajectory information, we create the trip index, which characterizes the intrinsic purpose of the use of BSS as transport or leisure. The construction of the trip index required a specific analysis of the BSS shortest path, which cannot be directly calculated from the topology of the network given that cyclists can find shortcuts through traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, etc. to reduce the overall traveled distance. Adding a layer of complication to the problem, these shortcuts have a non-trivial existence in terms of being intermittent, or short lived. We applied the proposed methodology to empirical data from BiciMAD, the public BSS in Madrid (Spain). The obtained results show that the trip index correctly determines transport and leisure categories, which exhibit distinct statistical and operational features. Finally, we inferred the underlying BSS public transport network and show the fundamental trajectories traveled by users. Based on this analysis, we conclude that 90.60% of BiciMAD’s use fall in the category of transport, which demonstrates our first statement.

The state of the lipid transport system in patients with different variants of atherosclerosis, depending on the level of heparin in the blood has been examined. It was found that the content of heparin was lowered in all the examined, the degree of heparin drop was more pronounced in cases of atherosclerosis, enhanced by disorders of blood circulation. Disturbances of the lipid transport systems were atherogenic and manifested as an increase in the content of total cholesterol and VLDL, decrease of polyunsaturated fatty acids. We believe that the disorder of the lipid transport system is associated with the depletion of heparin synthesis which should be considered as a possible pathogenesis mechanism of atherosclerosis.

The development of the considerable transport and logistics potential of the Kaliningrad region is hampered by several factors. This problem, to which we will refer to as a transport deadlock effect, translates into the limited contribution of transport to the regional economy. Particularly, it manifests itself at the level of regional gross value added, where the contribution of transport is much smaller than one might expect given the significant role the industry plays in the economy of the region. In this study, we examine major ways of increasing the economic efficiency of the regional transport system from the value added perspective. We posit that the structure of cargo handled and the redistribution of value added in favour of regional actors have the dominant influence on economic efficiency. Using our own simulation model and the earlier developed system of transport tariffs and value added calculation for the Kaliningrad region, we produce scenarios and consider changes in value added in the case of selected cargoes carrying intermediate, investment, and consumer goods (as defined in the International Classification for Broad Economic Categories ICT BEC-4). Our calculations show that higher value added and greater economic efficiency of a regional transport system are associated with re-orientation towards investment and consumer goods. The most visible effect is associated with rail and road transport. As to sea transport, the decisive role is played by an increase in the physical volume of cargo handled. The results of this study and its modelling tools can be applied in the analysis of the current situation and in the assessment of the efficiency of transport systems in other regions. Another possible application is the identification of growth conditions for an industry, particularly, when developing projects and proposals for increasing the efficiency of transport services.

The growth and concentration of motor vehicles in developing cities has led to increased demand for urban mobility. Renewed commitments of Asian cities are required in order to achieve the SDG target on urban mobility as well as to enhance overall sustainability of urban transport systems and services. Cities and countries need to track the progress in improving urban mobility. With a view to support evidence based decision, the paper introduces the Sustainable Urban Transport Index (SUTI) of urban transport services, to help summarize, track and compare the state of urban mobility in Asian cities, as model for developing cities in the world. It also presents the results of pilot application of SUTI in four Asian cities: Greater Jakarta; Kathmandu; Hanoi; and Colombo. The four pilot cities were able to collect data, analyzed and assess the state of urban mobility in their city using SUTI. The assessment result supported policy makers to identify policy gaps, prioritize additional measures and investment strategies required to improve urban transport systems and services in each city. The visual output display in spider diagram was useful to comprehend state of all 10 key indicators in a glace. The pilot study demonstrated the usefulness of SUTI tool and the pilot cities were already using the results of SUTI analysis. In Kathmandu additional efforts are required to improve pedestrian infrastructure and facilities, Colombo needed to improve quality and reliability of public transport system, while Hanoi and Greater Jakarta need to put additional efforts to increase mode share of public transport system.

The article considers the description of the internal sustainability of regional road transport systems through parameters that reflect potential and realised opportunities in regional freight transport operations. There is the author’s vision of the regional road transport system for the transport of goods by road as a target-oriented set of elements, including vehicles, transport infrastructure, technical devices, equipment, and employees, organisational structures that ensure the achievement of management objectives in the transport sector of the region. They conclude that an important element in the management of the functioning and developing road transport in the region is considering the factors that determine the internal sustainability of the system. The paper provides the author’s definition of the internal sustainability potential of the regional road transport system. It proposes an approach to assess the internal sustainability of regional road transport systems based on the elements of regional transport system capacity, such as infrastructure capacity, operational capacity and freight demand capacity in the region. Researchers developed a system of indicators to assess each capacity element from the perspective of the internal sustainability of the system. The article focuses on the study of system stability based on the assessment of deviations from equilibrium states that ensure the stability of the system within its baseline parameters and characteristics, and its adaptability to deviations from the baseline values. It uses regional statistics to assess the internal sustainability of regional road transport systems and describes their internal instability factors. The authors present a visualisation of a model for assessing the internal sustainability of a regional transport system.

In the context of the existing unstable socio-economic situation and territorial disparities in the distribution of productive forces, the development of the transport system is becoming one of the top priorities for the state. Advanced transport solutions are designed to resolve gaps in optimizing the processes of moving people and goods, in particular in terms of safety and security, lowering costs and increasing socio-economic benefits not only for individual enterprises, but for the country as a whole. Often, such advanced solutions are provided by innovative developments — the largest number of them characterize the most developed transport systems in the world. At the same time, today it is generally accepted that the transport system of Russia is not one of those. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to consider the current situation in the transport sectors of the Russian Federation for the further development of the innovation sphere in each of them. As the study has shown, today in Russia there are innovative projects in the form of unmanned road and rail transport, which, with the active participation of the state, can become a highly competitive product in the world market. In other industries, in particular, electric mobile infrastructure, electric, water and air transport, there is a noticeable lag behind foreign counterparts, which can lead to serious consequences for the Russian transport system in the future. The presented results can be useful for state bodies, municipalities, city heads and various kinds of city researchers.
