In this study, the free vibration of laminated composite plates with and without stiffeners subjected to axial loads is carried out using finite element method. The plates are stiffened by laminated composite strip and Timoshenko beam. The plates and the strips are modeled with rectangular 9 noded isoparametric quadratic elements with three degrees of freedom per node and the Timoshenko beam is modeled with linear 2 noded isoparametric quadratic elements with 2 degrees of freedom per node. The effects of both shear deformation and rotary inertia are implemented in the modeling of plate and stiffener. The governing differential equations are obtained in terms of the mid-plane displacement components and shear rotations using Hamilton’s principle. The effects of axial tension and compression loads and stiffeners on the natural frequencies of the plate are investigated. Results indicate the tension loads and stiffeners will increase the natural frequencies while the compression loads reduce the natural frequencies. The buckling force of plate is computed by increasing the absolute value of compressive force until the first natural frequency tends to zero. Results of simple cases are compared with finding in the literature and a good agreement was achieved.

Sinusoidal shear deformation theory is presented to analyze the natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates. The governing differential equations based on sinusoidal theory are solved by a Navier-type analytical method. The present results are compared with the available published results which verify the accuracy of sinusoidal theory.

In this paper, natural frequencies of laminated composite plates were studied. The layerwise finite element model is imposed to determine the natural frequencies of laminated composite plates. The effects of panel orientation angle, elastic modulus ratio and width-depth ratio on the natural frequencies of the laminated composite are then discussed. With an example of a sixteen-laying laminated plate, the numerical simulations show that the factor of key structural parameters to the natural frequencies of the laminated composite plate is panel orientation angle and width-depth ratio.

Natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates are calculated by the meshless global collocation method based on Gaussian radial basis function. The accuracy of meshless global radial basis function collocation method depends on the choice of shape parameter of radial basis function. In present paper, the shape parameter of Gaussian radial basis function is optimized using the genetic algorithm. Gaussian radial basis function with optimal shape parameter is utilized to analyze the natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates. The present results are compared with the results of available literatures which verify the accuracy of present method.

A high-order displacement field in quadrilateral element with nine nodes and twelve-degrees-of-freedom per node is developed for bending analysis of thick arbitrary layered composite plates under transverse loads. Results for plate deformations, internal stress-resultants and stresses for selected examples are shown to compare well with the closed-form and other finite element solutions.

In this study, a finite element model based on first-order shear deformation theory is presented for optimal placement and active vibration control of laminated composite plates with bonded distributed piezoelectric sensor/actuator pairs. The model employs the nine-node isoparametric rectangular element with 5 degrees of freedom for the mechanical displacements, and 2 electrical degrees of freedom. Genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to maximize the fundamental natural frequencies of plates; and the constant feedback control method is used for the vibration control analysis of piezoelectric laminated composite plates. The results of this study can be used to aid the placement of piezoelectric sensor/actuator pairs of smart composite plates as well as for robust controller design.

In this paper, free vibration analysis of laminated composite plates is carried out using first shear deformation theory and finite element method. Effect of axial tension and compression forces on the natural frequencies of the structure is investigated. Applying elastic foundation under the laminated composite plates has enabled us to achieve desired frequencies. The displacements are based C° – nine plate bending element and each node has three degree of freedom. The equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle. Results indicate the tension forces will increase the natural frequency while the compression force reduces the natural frequency. The buckling force of plate is computed by increasing the absolute value of compressive force until the natural frequency tends to zero. Dynamic of moving mass in a circular path on the laminated composite plate is also investigated. Displacement of plate center reveals a sinusoidal pattern in time.
