The present study aimed to develop an indigenous measure of learning styles for e-learners in Pakistan and to establish its psychometric properties. The objectives of the study were attained via three studies. First, the items for the development of the Learning Style Scale for e-Learners (e-LSS) were generated empirically based on a 5-point Likert-type scale. In Study I, the internal consistency and dimensionality of the measure were determined by sampling 360 e-learners aged from 20 to 40 years through a convenient sampling technique, whereas other demographic characteristics were kept in close consideration. For this purpose, exploratory factor analysis was utilized. In Study II of scale development, the factor structure that emerged in Study I was confirmed via confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modeling. In Study III, the convergent and divergent validities of the newly constructed scale were established by correlating scores with preestablished scale scores that assess the similar construct (i.e., LSS) and with scores on the discriminant construct (i.e., Solving Problems Survey). The sample for this study consisted of 80 e-learners aged from 20 to 40 years. A total of 29 items were confirmed in the final scale with 8 distinctive factors (namely, visual, auditory, kinesthetic, global, analytical, individual, collaborative, and technological type) with sound psychometric properties. To conclude, the newly constructed scale was a significant addition to assess learning styles particularly of e-learners in the context of Pakistan.

Academic performance of international university students was predicted using an interdisciplinary model, built by integrating theories from educational psychology and cultural anthropology. Approximately 2,500 online undergraduate business degree students from 21 countries were sampled from an Australian university. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and empirically validate items on social isolation. The comprehensive literature review of existing studies on the measures of social isolation, loneliness and the related construct was conducted. The paper seeks to conceptualize, validate and present items to measure social isolation. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on theoretical and empirical investigation of the measures of social isolation, loneliness and related constructs such as social others, social loneliness and feeling of sociability. The items were generated through theoretical exploration of previous literature and later modified. The author examined the items through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and further checked for external criterion validity. Data collected from 128 individuals, in India, were examined to design and validate the scale. Findings The finding of the paper is a ten-item social isolation scale. Using structural equation modeling, we have found extraversion and well-being significantly associated with final items in the present study, confirming the external quality of the scale. Practical implications Organizations may benefit by close examination of the presence of social isolation in employees along with providing support and assistance to employees so as to reduce negative consequences of social isolation and can address the well-being of the employee. Originality/value There is a dearth of developed and validated measures of social isolation in the literature. The study reveals the conceptualization and empirical validation of measures of social isolation in the Indian context so that researchers can move forward to develop theories on social isolation.

The consumption of luxury goods is complex in its essence permeate interpretation failures. In this sense the objective of this study is to describe the development and validation of a tool for analyzing the real reasons behind the decision to consume luxury products. This quantitative, descriptive study was conducted in three capitals fields, where 385 consumers of luxury goods were interviewed. Its preparation was possible because of existing studies and national and international theory, constituted from the sequential use of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The final scale consisted of 35 questions that showed good internal consistency and factorial stability. Analyses indicated that the exclusivity factor, tradition and status are key elements for the consumption of luxury, and tradition presents itself as the most important aspect in the pursuit of pleasure. The contribution of this study is to provide a tool that brings understanding to the consumption of luxury, a process fraught with opportunities for various areas of the Brazilian economy.

According to the extant literature, the positive roles of learning styles, teaching strategies, need for cognition, and meta-cognition on promotion and enhancing level of academic achievement is irrefutable. This study aims to plan for identifying the impact of mentioned variables on the academic achievement of students in the Educational Centers. The developed research model is based on a review in literature and is a comprehensive model which consists of four independent variables namely learning styles, teaching strategies, need for cognition, and meta-cognition. And one dependent variable that is academic achievement. In order to reach major and minor research objectives, the author develops a survey instrument with a proper standard and introduces a quantitative approach involving the distribution of questionnaires among students implementable in any educational centers. Total collected data can be analyzed through the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) or Structural Equation Modeling via Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) program (SEM-AMOS). In order to answer research questions and testing developed hypotheses of this study, reliability test, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, correlation test, and multiple regression analyses can be run in SPSS and it can be run confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in AMOS program with two-step strategy proposed by (Anderson and Gerbing 1988). The contribution of this scientific research will be pragmatic for academics in this research era because of the comprehensive research model. Also, this research has an outstanding role in bringing insight and realization for deputy deans, rectorates in the educational centers. Finally, the value of findings will be beneficial for promoting and increasing the level of academic achievement through learning styles, teaching strategies, need for cognition, and meta-cognition.

Research in contemporary education over the past few decades has led to considering the influence of non-cognitive factors such as learning styles in various learning behaviors. This study aims to examine the influence of the epistemic beliefs that consist of belief in knowledge and belief in learning on field-dependent and field-independent learning styles. The sample consisted of 129 students at the Early Childhood Islamic Education Study Program, Department of Islamic Education, Kudus State Islamic Institute through the simple random sampling technique. The data collection technique was through the use of questionnaires. There are three scales employed in this study, namely epistemological trust scale, dependent learning style and independent learning style. Data were analyzed by using Structural Equation Modeling. The results show that the belief in learning has a significant and positive effect on the field-dependent and field-independent learning style. Meanwhile, the belief in learning has only a significant and negative effect on the field-independent learning style and has no significant effect on field-dependent learning style. The results provide some insightful considerations regarding the utilization of epistemic beliefs for improving learners’ interaction with the surrounding context to obtain an optimal academic performance.

PurposeUsing two theoretical lenses – social identity theory and generation cohort theory – the present study analyzes the influence of sport motivations (i.e., patriotism, drama and excitement of the game, nostalgic associations, interest in star players and social influence) on the intentions to watch the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty-20 (T20) World Cup of three different generation cohorts (i.e., Generations X, Y and Z).Design/methodology/approachData were collected from N = 499 cricket lovers from Pakistan based on a non-probability sampling technique. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modeling (SEM) and multi-group modeling techniques were used as methods.FindingsSEM results show that cricket fans' intentions to watch the T20 World Cup are positively influenced by patriotism, drama and excitement of the game, and social influence. The results of multi-group modeling reveal significant differences between Generation X-ers, Y-ers and Z-ers regarding the effect of sport motivations on their intentions to watch the ICC T20 World Cup. Specifically, our findings show that for X-ers, interest in star players and nostalgic associations are the main motivations behind watching the T20 World Cup, whereas drama and excitement appeared to be an important predictor for Y-ers, and patriotism and social influence are more likely to increase Z-ers' intentions to watch the T20 World Cup.Originality/valueThis study is the first of its kind to report the motivations of Generations X, Y and Z to watch the T20 World Cup.

Abstract Background Risk perception in this COVID19 situation is important and its measurement tool can be useful in terms of the making of social health policy. This study aimed to develop and psychometrics properties of a new scale, for assessing general perception of Covid-19 risk (GPCOVID-19R) in Iran.Methods A methodological study with a structural equation model approach was used to develop and psychometrics the GPCOVID-19 R questionnaire. First, qualitative method, an operational definition of risk perception of COVID-19 was presented by 10 experts. The item generation and scale development were performed through literature review, a qualitative approach, and interviews with an expert panel. Then, the psychometric properties of the scale were evaluated by means of cross-sectional studies. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and scale correlation were performed using Amos software version 23.Results 304 users of social groups in Tehran province participated in completing the online questionnaire. The results of psychometric properties of the questionnaire indicate the desired validity and reliability. The exploratory factor analysis revealed five factors, containing 20 items. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a model with appropriate fitness for the data.Conclusion The results of the study suggest that GPCOVID-19R is a reliable and valid tool for measuring Iranians' general perception of Covid-19 risk.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and validate a multi-dimensional scale to measure retail brand experience. Design/methodology/approach Literature review and open-ended survey have been carried out to generate an initial pool of items. Item reduction has been done using exploratory factor analysis and validation of measures performed through confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. A total of six separate studies have been conducted to develop and validate the retail brand experience scale. Findings A 22-item seven-dimensional retail brand experience scale is developed. The proposed scale has exhibited sound psychometric properties based on the findings from different reliability and validity tests, as well as from robust scale replications across several different samples. Findings support that retail brand experience has a significant impact on consumer intentions (word-of-mouth and pay more). Practical implications This research develops a set of retail brand experience measures that can provide retailers a way to examine the experiences evoked through retail brand-related stimuli. Originality/value This study is the first of its kind of its kind that develops and validates the measures of the retail brand experience.

Purpose This paper aims to study a scale development and validation process for an integrative marketing–operations alignment (MOA) theory. This theory was derived from several distinct theories that have attempted to explain the interaction between marketing and operations functions of manufacturing organizations. An initial qualitative research and literature review identified five antecedents to the MOA construct (decision coordination, reward system, information exchange, leadership strategy and performance evaluation) as well as two outcomes (customer orientation and competitor orientation). Design/methodology/approach The scale was developed and validated using successive testing processes including exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling (LISREL). Findings The outcome of the research is a tested and validated model of MOA. While more work needs to be done to test and potentially extend the theory, this research has produced a basic functional model of the MOA process. Research limitations/implications The limitations include target populations, choice of industry and geography and cross-sectional time horizon of the study. Originality/value This study represents an original contribution to the organizational theory literature, as it provides both a sound theoretical basis and a validated measurement model for the proposed theory of MOA. While this research does draw on existing models, it is more comprehensive and theory-based than the existing models.

Disaster events both in the U.S. and worldwide are increasing in severity and prevalence. In response to the threat of disasters, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued calls for developing well-tested assessment tools that operationalize specific protective factors associated with resilience to disaster. Recognizing this need, this dissertation project developed and validated the Disaster Adaptation and Resilience Scale (DARS) to measure specific domains found to support adaptive responses in individuals exposed to disaster events. The development and validation processes of the scale occurred across two phases. Phase I consisted of the construct development, item generation, and expert review. Phase II conducted a full validation evaluation of the psychometric properties of the scale and tested direct and indirect relationships between disaster stress exposure, DARS, and mental health in a sample of adults (N=625) using structural equation modeling (SEM). Results found DARS demonstrated psychometric properties that support its use among adults experiencing disaster. Limitations and implications of the scale are discussed, including application within clinical, research, and policy settings.
