Abstract Background This paper describes the development and psychometric evaluation of a behavioral assessment instrument primarily intended for use with workgroups in any type of organization. The instrument was developed based on the Nurturing Environments framework which describes four domains important for health, well-being, and productivity; minimizing toxic social interactions, teaching and reinforcing prosocial behaviors, limiting opportunities for problem behaviors, and promoting psychological flexibility. The instrument is freely available to use and adapt under a CC-BY license and intended as a tool that is easy for any group to use and interpret to identify key behaviors to improve their psychosocial work environment. Methods Questionnaire data of perceived frequency of behaviors relevant to nurturance were collected from nine different organizations in Sweden. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis, Rasch analysis, and correlations to investigate relationships with relevant workplace measures. Results The results indicate that the 23-item instrument is usefully divided in two factors, which can be described as risk and protective factors. Toxic social behaviors make up the risk factor, while the protective factor includes prosocial behavior, behaviors that limit problems, and psychological flexibility. Rasch analysis showed that the response categories work as intended for all items, item fit is satisfactory, and there was no significant differential item functioning across age or gender. Targeting indicates that measurement precision is skewed towards lower levels of both factors, while item thresholds are distributed over the range of participant abilities, particularly for the protective factor. A Rasch score table is available for ordinal to interval data transformation. Conclusions This initial analysis shows promising results, while more data is needed to investigate group-level measurement properties and validation against concrete longitudinal outcomes. We provide recommendations for how to work in practice with a group based on their assessment data, and how to optimize the measurement precision further. By using a two-dimensional assessment with ratings of both frequency and perceived importance of behaviors the instrument can help facilitate a participatory group development process. The Group Nurturance Inventory is freely available to use and adapt for both commercial and non-commercial use and could help promote transparent assessment practices in organizational and group development.

The results indicate a 23-item instrument that best fit a bifactor model with a general nurturance factor explaining 87.1% of the variance in unit-weighted total scores, and three specific factors (toxic behavior, prosocial behavior, and behaviors that limit problems). Rasch analysis showed that the response scale works adequately, item fit is satisfactory, and no significant differential item functioning. Targeting is skewed towards lower levels of nurturance and item thresholds are distributed over the range of participant abilities. Objective: Structural analysis of the German translation of the “Client-Centered Rehabilitation Questionnaire” (CCRQ). Design: Cross-sectional multicenter study. Setting: Ten inpatient rehabilitation centers in Germany. Subjects: The CCRQ was completed by patients in the ten rehabilitation centers. Main measures: The psychometric analysis of the CCRQ was conducted using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The CCRQ was completed by 496 patients (average age: 59 years; 59.7% women). The CCRQ’s 7-factor structure could not be confirmed. Factor analysis showed that the three latent constructs “decision-making/communication”, “self-management/empowerment”, and “psychosocial well-being” (60.73% variance explained) adequately represent patient-centeredness in medical rehabilitation assessed by the CCRQ. The scales possess good reliability (Cronbach’s α = .83 to .87) and convergent criterion validity (r = 0.48 to 0.68). The three-factorial model exhibited good local and global data fit (RMSEA: 0.063, CFI 0.962, TLI 0.954) and proved to have a better data fit than concurring models (e.g. a model assuming an underlying factor). Conclusions: A validated short form of the Client-Centered Rehabilitation Questionnaire, CCRQ-15, could be identified. Three scales based on 15 items allow assessing the key aspects of patient-centeredness in German medical rehabilitation.

Well-being is an essential concept in a human’s life as it is an emotional state that significantly influences our lifestyle. This study aims to develop a Malaysian male well-being indicator using the intrapersonal communication perspective. In this study, a self assessment instrument was constructed based on the self-concept theory in order to understand the respondent's well-being. This study applied mixed-methodology. Qualitative approach was used to build the well-being dimension and indicator based on some previous studies, while the quantitative approach was done to determine which construct is considered valid to measure male well-being, and how reliable those constructs are. Data collection phase was run through an online cross-sectional survey by using Survey Monkey platform. A total of 290 respondents consisting of Malaysian men aged 18 years and above participated in this study. The EFA results showed that there were 33 items classified under six well-being main components with having an effective and excellent level of consistency effectiveness, where Cronbach's Alpha for these six components gives a value of more than .70. This study, in overall, found that the well-being indicator was represented by one item on self-assessment that measures well-being dimension. Through the findings obtained, this study is expected to open a wider space for the upcoming studies on male well-being in Malaysia. However, it is suggested that this study needs to be continued with confirmatory factor analysis to validate this well-being indicator as a valid instrument to measure male well-being in Malaysia. The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a globally recognized scale for the measurementof subjective well-being in more than thirty six languages. Currently there is no adaptedversion of the SCWS in Azerbaijani language. The aim of the present study was to completeforward and backward translations of the SWLS and maintaining equivalence to examine itspsychometric properties in a sample of 374 subjects in Azerbaijan. The results showed thatthe Azerbaijani version of SWLS had good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.81) withconfirmatory factor analysis showing a single factorial structure. The findings suggest that theAzerbaijani version of the SWLS is a valid instrument to use among Azerbaijan samples.

Rapid social development and recent changes in views concerning childhood have urged a more holistic approach to measuring children’s well-being, particularly in the domain of rights. In light of articulated provisions within the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, there is obvious interest in understanding more about how children’s perceptions of their rights have evolved. Using both traditional measurement (exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis) and Rasch analysis, this study focused on measures gauging Chinese high school students’ perceptions of freedom of expression. The survey was designed to capture students’ perceptions over various forms of freedom of expression (e.g. student publications, dress code), and their experiences with regard to how these rights were respected in their schools. The aim of the study was to examine and evaluate validity and reliability of the survey used with a sample of 838 Chinese students from two high schools, one urban, and one rural. Overall, the survey exhibits certain degrees of validity and reliability and is appropriate for measuring children’s perceptions on freedom of expression. The study pointed to a number of areas where the survey could be improved. Implications for future research were discussed.

Abstract Background A sense of belonging is a significant predictor of mental health and well-being in later life. A sense of belonging in childhood and adolescence contributes to a number of adult behavioural and psychological outcomes. A high sense of belonging has been associated with better health, longevity, psychological well-being, and disease recovery. Methods In this study, the Persian version of the Sense of Belonging Instrument (SOBI) for older adults in Iran was evaluated psychometrically to develop an accurate measure for belonging. Participants in the study were 302 older adults, 60 years old and above, living independently in Iran and chosen through convenience sampling. Results An exploratory factor analysis indicated that the four-factor structure, which included 16 items, accounted for 54.12% of the total variance, and was characterized by strong factor loadings, with values ranging from .50 to .87. Thereafter, a confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the four-factor latent structure of the SOBI, providing adequate data-model fit statistics. All latent structures were characterized by adequate-to-strong latent construct (H) internal reliability (α) coefficients. Conclusions The Persian version of the SOBI is a useful tool in understanding older adult patients’ sense of belonging when living independently within the community. The implications for practice and research are discussed.

Within educational systems, promoting well-being is an essential objective along with traditional aims focused on students’ learning. However, scarce attention has been devoted to school-related well-being in the transition from primary to lower secondary school, also for the paucity of brief instruments deputed to measure it. We assessed well-being at school for fourth-graders and seventh-graders, by adapting and validating the Italian version of the School-Related Well-Being (SRW) scale, using in sequence exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Rasch analysis. Through the Rasch analysis, we transformed the SRW scale into an instrument that respects the properties of the fundamental measurement. We measured well-being and achievement emotions at time 1 and grades at time 2. The SRW scale correlated with another measure of well-being and with students’ achievement emotions. Grade-level differences emerged, with a decrease of well-being that attested a maladaptive trend at increasing age; moreover, females reported higher well-being than males. Well-being at school was positively linked to achievement. Beyond its methodological relevance, this study highlights the need for developing interventions to support students in the transition from primary to lower secondary school, which is such a pivotal time in their learning path.
