The given action research is aimed at investigating the impact the implementation of CLIL techniques may have on understanding and comprehension of the content in the teaching/learning environment where English is used as a medium of education. The research was conducted in Cambridge department of one of the private schools in Baku, Azerbaijan with two groups of 11-12-year-old learners. CLIL methodology was utilized in History of Azerbaijan classes to check whether the approach can facilitate the understanding of the content matter for the students who are proficient English users. The distinctive feature of this action research is that it allows for viewing CLIL approach from a perspective opposite to the common perspective where the focus is shifted from learning the language through content to learning content through CLIL tools and techniques.

This chapter is about action research. Action research is defined as the comparative research on the conditions and effects of various forms of social action and research leading to social action. This chapter highlights the history of action research, definition of action research, characteristics of action research, stages of action research, issues of action research, credibility and validity of action research. In action research, the ultimate objective is in the perceived functionality of chosen actions to produce desirable consequences for an organization.

This chapter provides partnering researchers and teachers with the identification and definition of specific types of research (e.g., descriptive-analytic, observational, and collaborative action research/inquiry) and research approaches and designs (e.g., longitudinal, survey-questionnaires, and focus groups) that were successful in instituting change and improvement in partnership settings. Exemplar studies of each type from two long-running partnerships are summarized, along with findings and their use to institute change. The research approaches are adaptable to current circumstances faced in American education. Special attention is given to collaborative video-based action research studies and the development of a video data bank as a proven partnership strategy for providing evidence of change and teaching effectiveness. Also, a brief history of research on the study of teaching is given, and the tools used to investigate teaching are placed in an Appendix. What worked and why it worked is the central theme of the chapter.

Mirror therapy is an intervention focused on hand and leg movement of the affected side based of mirror neuron principal. This new technique using mirror is simple, affordable, and effective.Aim: To investigate the effectiveness of mirror therapy (MT) on recovery of arm motor function in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods: Randomized clinical trial with parallel design an patient with ischemic stroke admitted to Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar, June to July 2017. Subjects were allocated into standard with mirror therapy group and standard therapy alone. Mirror therapy was done for 30 minutes everyday for 10 days. Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) at the first and the tenth day were compared using independent t test. Results: There were 32 subjects with 16 subjects in each group. Majority of subjects were men (59,4%), age 45-54 years (31,2%), had history of hypertension (81,2%), came at the third day of onset (28,1%), and a right side motor deficit (59,4%). Difference in ARAT score was higher in group receiving standard + mirror therapy than in group receiving standard therapy alone (15,56 vs 7,69).Discussion: Arm motor function recovery were significant on group receiving standard + mirror therapy compared to control after 10 days of intervention, especially grasping movement.
