<p>Teaching and learning in Contemporary Higher Education is experiencing a change of paradigm in the approach used for curriculum design and instruction. This paper examines the application of democratisation of teaching and learning as a crucial tool for the implementation of the Tuning Approach in the teaching and learning processes in higher education. A qualitative research approach was used to collect information from two institutions of higher learning in Botswana. Findings from the study indicate, that, there are democratic elements in the teaching and learning processes as evidenced by the use of the learning –outcomes approach in lesson planning by the lecturers, and in the various ways students are engaged in teaching and learning processes. However, the study revealed that students are not fully involved in planning curriculum and workload.</p>

The Malaysia  Education Blueprint 2015-2025 clearly shows the aspirations of the Higher Education Ministry on the importance of applying national identity among graduates at Higher Education Institutions. In line with the wishes, the course of Malaysia Studies is a major medium for the building of patriotism values among students. Hence, the Malaysian Studies Course was strengthened and used as one of the General Subjects (MPUs) conducted by all Institutions of Higher Learning. All citizens and non-citizens are required to attend and pass the Malaysian Studies Course as a graduation requirement. In order to make the course more interesting and interactive, the Teaching And Learning method is always improved to achieve the predetermined learning outcomes. Thus, a study using a quantitative approach has been undertaken to identify students' responses to the implementation of the Malaysian School of Excellence in KUIS. The Teaching And Learning implementation assessment for this course is based on scoring components, teaching staff and teaching aids. The findings show that Teaching And Learning implemented in Malaysian Studies courses is relevant and capable of applying the elements of identity and patriotism among students. Keywords: Teaching And Learning, General Studies subjects, Malaysian Studies Course

Following a realization that first year undergraduate students at a private university in Ghana engaged very minimally in their learning processes, and consequently obtained very weak grades in their courses, this study adopted a qualitative research approach to investigate whether the integration of a WebQuest into the learning processes can help foster student engagement through interactivity, and thus improve learning outcomes. Five students and one instructor participated in the study, and over the course of one academic semester, teaching and learning processes were varied by introducing WebQuest-based learning. Data were gathered by observing student activities as they engaged in the learning processes, and also assessing student learning and satisfaction by looking at student grades and also administering a survey questionnaire to students. Findings indicate that educational technologies such as the WebQuest can potentially foster student engagement in learning and also help improve learning outcomes. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Monitoring and evaluation is very crucial in attaining targeted goals, especially in social studies. Social studies teacher mode of service delivery rub-off on the level of academic performance of students. It is very imperative that monitoring and evaluation mechanism be put in place to check how social studies lecturers in institutions of higher learning execute their lecture. In primary and secondary levels of education, the Ministry of education, from time to time send inspectors to schools to supervise the teaching and learning processes going on in schools. School heads are also mandated to supervise teaching and learning processes in their schools, this mechanism goes a long way to checkmate teachers&rsquo; excesses but this is lacking in institutions of higher learning, and appears to be responsible for the lackadaisical attitude to work by some lecturers. Such attitudes include absent from lecture, late coming to lecture among others. This paper therefore looked at the importance of monitoring and evaluation of teaching processes of social studies in higher institutions of learning, uses of monitoring and evaluation, among others and conclude that internal monitoring and evaluation team be established in higher institutions, to ensure adequate monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning of social studies in institutions of higher learning for effective implementation of social studies contents among others.

This paper relates the changes that have occurred in historiography over the last couple of decades to the present state of writing on the history of higher education in Canada. The existing bibliography has laid the groundwork and the 'new' history offers the means by which the complex relationships between society and institutions of higher learning can be synthesized. A few examples of the kinds of questions that need to be asked and of some assumptions that need analysis are given. By looking at all phases of universities - professors, students, women, administrative and academic matters; by using quantitative as well as qualitative research techniques; by consulting government, church, local and business sources as well as university material; and by analyzing and critiquing the newer historians of higher education can help Canadians understand the traditions and mores of individual institutions as well as the collective impact of higher education on the society.

The chapter assesses the role of institutions of higher learning in designing education curriculum in collaboration with the library, museum, and archives (LAMs) of the Stevenson Hamilton Knowledge Resource (SHKR) center based at the National Park. This research is based on a qualitative research method. The finding of the NP case study underpins concepts and outcomes described in academic discourse on the relationship between institutions of higher learning and LAMs. LAMs may serve as lifelong learning in South Africa. The results of empirical research allow the researcher to conclude that designing educational materials requires the collaboration of the Ministry of Basic and Higher Education, Training, Science, and Technology and LAMs.

This text presents and discusses results of empirical research conducted during 3 school semesters (1.5 of school year) in a primary school in Poland. The research focused on the introduction of tablets (iPads) to didactic design and aimed at the observation of learning processes of the entire school community in connection with the appearance of a new educational actor. We used a qualitative research approach, mainly video-ethnography (60 hours of recorded material). This research approach resulted in the identification of maps of teaching and learning practices in the changing school field.

Traditionally, the key principle of assessment was based on the depth and intensity of the knowledge taught in class. In our modern state, the notion of assessment is more about learning and less about whether it is deep or surface learning. This could be attributed to challenges facing higher education, such as marketisation, massification, access and success. This article aims to demonstrate the significance of assessment as a pedagogical and measuring tool to promote deep learning in institutions of higher learning. It analyses how different types of assessment could contribute to deep learning while enhancing critical thinking and analytical skills. The article adopted the qualitative research approach to appraise critically and examine the literature on assessment in higher education. The sequence in which assessment tasks are presented, the pedagogical approaches adopted and measurement tools used should aim to present general non-threatening questions. The article recognises Bloom’s taxonomy as it classifies educational learning objectives in the manner that accommodates deep learning. This article suggests that assessment should be made explicit, aligned with learning outcomes that consider deep learning in terms of acquisition of knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and understanding of basic concepts in what is learnt. It concludes that students need to be engaged in their assessment to enable them to develop skills and dispositions that prepare them for the future as socially responsible citizens. Research needs to be conducted on the higher education challenges that compromise the quality of assessment as this could have negative effects on the development of deep learning.

This study aimed to explore the perception healthcare sector teachers, students and graduates from two institutions of higher learning in Rio Grande do Sul, on the generation of waste from healthcare services. It used a qualitative research approach, performed with 13 teachers, 18 students and 12 healthcare professionals, who were collected through a focus group. The main results showed there is a perception toward the importance of proper segregation and disposal of Healthcare Service Waste, also there is a lack of concern for the reduction of these wastes. Therefore, the issue requires a broader understanding of the environment, with a view of planetary sustainability, exposing needs to provide the healthcare professionals with knowledge and awareness of the importance of handling these types of waste.

La presente investigación, analiza los conceptos más importantes del pensamiento Crítico, así como su importancia y utilidad en los procesos de formación profesional a nivel de Posgrado. Se hace un análisis detallado de los conceptos más ampliamente aceptado y de los factores inmersos en el desarrollo y aplicación de este tipo de pensamiento. Finalmente se propone un modelo que engloba los conceptos y factores analizados y como se interrelacionan entre ellos; el objetivo final es brindar a los docentes y directivos de Instituciones de Educación Superior, una herramienta que posibilite la inclusión de este tipo de pensamiento en sus procesos enseñanza-aprendizaje con el fin último de mejorar la calidad de los procesos de formación. Palabras Clave: Pensamiento Crítico, Educación Superior, Educación ABSTRACT This research analyzes the most important concepts of critical thinking as well as their importance and usefulness for the educational processes at graduate level. A detailed analysis of the most widely accepted concepts and factors involved in the development and application of this kind of thinking has been made.
