What is the Business with AI? Preparing Future Decision Makers and Leaders

With companies now recognizing how artificial intelligence (AI), digitalization, the internet of things (IoT), and data science affect value creation and the maintenance of a competitive advantage, their demand for talented individuals with both management skills and a strong understanding of technology will grow dramatically. There is a need to prepare and train our current and future decision makers and leaders to have an understanding of AI and data science, the significant impact these technologies are having on business, how to develop AI strategies, and the impact all of this will have on their employees’ roles. This paper discusses how business schools can fulfill this need by incorporating AI into their business curricula, not only as stand-alone courses but also integrated into traditional business sequences, and establishing interdisciplinary efforts and collaborative industry partnerships. This article describes how the College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) at the University of Alaska Anchorage is implementing multiple approaches to meet these needs and prepare future leaders and decision makers. These approaches include a detailed description of CBPP’s first AI course and related student successes, the integration of AI into additional business courses such as entrepreneurship and GSCM, and the creation of an AI and Data Science Lab in partnership with the College of Engineering and an investment firm.

This paper reports on the University of Wyomings Master of Science in e.Business degree Program and experience from the first two years of its operation. The Program was initiated in response to the chronic shortage of graduates with skills in both business and technology. The program is a rare cooperative effort between the College of Business and the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering. We discuss the basic structure of the Program in terms of its interdisciplinary nature, accelerated delivery, educational objectives, team-oriented approach, classroom environment, involvement of business community, and skill sets emphasized. The primary tracks of study and courses within each track are explained. Demographic data on admitted and enrolled students is also presented. Challenges and plans for the future of the Program are also discussed.

undergraduate students’ academic performances and their social interpersonal skills in the Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University. Design/methodology/approach: 64 samples were collected from full-time undergraduate students studying in Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University from different colleges including Community college, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Engineering and College of Pharmacy. The descriptive statistics analysis was used to analyze the demographic data while inferential statistics were used in testing the research hypotheses. The results obtained from the analyses were used to interpret the outcomes. Findings: The empirical results reveal that the students enjoy meeting new friends online using social media rather than meeting in person and for this reason they spend a lot of time – addicted. It is also confirmed that the bad comments are passed easily through social media affecting other's sentiments and most of them strongly believe that all the information in social media is true and reliable and the rumors were spread easily in social media. Further, it is also confirmed that social media does not support the Learning of the students. Practical Implications: The study confirms that the students exchange learning materials through social media and it helps them to update the developments in their college/university. The students believe that through Social media they have improved their communication skills and they can communicate with anyone at any time. It is also found that some of their teachers communicate with them and encourage them to use social media but for studying only.    Originality/value: The research work is of its first kind as it focuses on the impact of social media on the academic performances of the students studying in Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, which has suggested effective means for effective implementation of social media strategy.

This study examines alumni perceptions of the core curricula at the University of North Georgia’s College of Business to assess the gap between the skills employers need in new graduates and what the curricula offer. The research was conducted as part of the continuous improvement process for AACSB accreditation. The findings reveal that soft skills such as communication and problem-solving were highly rated as being useful, whereas the alumni rated calculus and international business skills as less important for daily job requirements. The study provides relevant information for colleges of business as they look to update their core curricula for business majors.

The authors discuss the approaches to the educational environment of the university, analyze its parameters and characteristics and study the connection between the developmental educational environment and a high level of managerial competence attained by technical university graduates. The authors rely on the environmental approach which allows them to assess the impact of the educational environment on students' organizational and managerial competence taking into account the analysis of empirical data obtained by monitoring methods of sociological research. This method also made it possible to improve self-organization and self-management skills of students and to achieve a high level of resilience both on the environmental and personal level.

<span>Nowadays, educational data have been increased rapidly because of the online services provided for both students and staff. University of Kufa (UoK) generates a massive amount of data annually due to the use of e-learning web-based systems, network servers, Windows applications, and Students Information System (SIS).  This data is wasted as traditional management software are not capable to analysis it. As a result, the Big Educational Data concept rises to help education sectors by providing new e-learning methods, allowing to meet individual demands and reach the learners' goals, and supporting the students and teacher’s interaction. This paper focuses on designing Big Data analysis architecture, based on the Hadoop in the UoK and the same case for other Iraqi universities. The impact of this work, help the students learn, emphasizing the need of academic researchers and data science specialist for learning and practicing Big Data analytics and support the analysis of the e-learning management system and set the first step toward developing data repository and data policy in UoK.</span>

  This study aimed at identifying the impact of management information systems on the administrative decision-making process at King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah from the administrative and technical staff standpoint who working at the university. In addition, to achieve this goal the descriptive and analytical approach was used. The problem of the study represents the challenges imposed by the external environment. The questionnaire initial data were distributed and (397) responses were obtained from the sample members. The study revealed several results that the most important to use programs related to management information systems which has a positive and effective impact on decision-making at King Abdul-Aziz University. Based on the results of the study, presenting a number of recommendations, involving the necessity to build databases for management information systems that can be referred to at any time to support administrative decision-makers and employee use them in solving numerous work problems.

It may be that business schools are not providing undergraduate business students with the competencies considered most important by company recruiters.  Research from Bentley College and the University of Guelph indicates that graduates and managers find that non-technical skills such as creativity, oral and written communication, decision-making and leadership are least adequately developed in undergraduate business students.  A study out of Wake Forest University indicates that recruiters consider the most important competencies for undergraduate business students to have are: Communication and interpersonal skills, Leadership skills and potential, Ability to work effectively within teams, Adaptability, including dealing with ambiguity, People and task management skills, Self-management skills.  ‘Specific functional expertise’ is listed as only of ‘medium’ importance.  Yet the overwhelming majority of undergraduate business courses cover the functional areas of accounting, finance, marketing, management, economics and information technology.  A variety of delivery approaches from various undergraduate business programs are examined to determine the best way to cover these important topics.

Data science is a relatively new requirement in business curricula. Historically many business students have shied away from business statistics. We describe a project to create learning objects to enhance business students confidence and capabilities in performing statistical and analytics business tasks. In this paper we focus on the content development process, rather than the impact of the learning objects on student learning outcomes.We reflect on the steps in the learning object design and implementation project and conclude that the Plan, Act, Observe and Reflect iterative cycle worked well for the project team. We include recommendations on how this framework could be augmented to improve the sustainability of learning objects.
