The paper describes the past and present distribution of Colchicum autumnale in the vicinity of Cracow, highlights the role of Stanisław Dembosz (who published the first locality of C. autumnale near Igołomia in 1841). Gives information about the occurrence of C. autumnale in Krzeszowice in the 19th century (reported by Bronisław Gustawicz), presents new localities noted in 2012–2014 in meadows in the north-eastern part of the Puszcza Niepołomicka forest and adjacent area (between the Vistula and Raba rivers), and gives a locality found in Cracow in 2005 (no longer extant).

A method for automated processing high spatial resolution satellite images is proposed to retrieve inventory and bioproductivity parameters of forest stands. The method includes effective learning classifiers, inverse modeling, and regression modeling of the estimated parameters. Spectral and texture features are used to classify forest species. The results of test experiments for the selected area of Savvatievskoe forestry (Russia, Tver region) are presented. Accuracy estimates obtained using ground-based measurements demonstrate the effectiveness of using the proposed techniques to automate the process of updating information for the State Forest Inventory program of Russia.

The object of the research is the current state and prospects for the further development of the main types of religious tourism in the Tver region. The purpose of the article is, using modern methods of regional economic research, to present a model for a comprehensive analysis of the religious and tourism industry in a region that has a high and diverse potential for its development. By calculating the coefficients of unevenness and advantages, the authors have identified the main areas of the Tver region, which form the center, semi-periphery and periphery of the development of religious tourism. On the example of the analysis of activities due to the inclusion in the routes of religious tourism, one of the dominants and attractive centers of its development - the Nilo-Stolbenskaya desert, the influence of this industry on other types of economic activities of the region is substantiated. The directions of religious entrepreneurship (production of food products, jewelry), the impetus for the development of which were served by religious tourism, are considered. The advantages for the development of religious tourism in the Tver region, as well as the threats to its functioning in the region, were identified using SWOT analysis. The results of the presented article can serve to develop a further strategy for religious tourism. Their application in this regard is permissible not only for the Tver region, but also for other regions with high potential for the development of religious tourism. The results of the study are of interest not only for government agencies whose task is to develop and develop a tourism development strategy, but for the missionary departments of the metropolises of the Russian Orthodox Church, pilgrim services and organizations that implement tours of religious thematic content.

Abstract Background The continued emergence of side-effects caused by synthetic drugs underscores the need for plant-based drugs in human medicine. Medicinal rhizomatous crops are a “goldmine for modern drugs”, and include such species as Gloriosa superba L. and Colchicum autumnale L., the producers of colchicine, a plant-based medicine. The natural isomer of bioactive colchicine is used to effectively treat major diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and gout. The medicinal properties of colchicine are well characterized, however, almost nothing is known about its biosynthesis. The paucity of information on the colchicine biosynthetic pathway is a significant barrier to biomanufacturing of this biomedicine. A comparative transcriptome study of G. superba and C. autumnale serves as a sequence resource to aid with identification of this biomedicine pathway and rhizome development genes for synthetic biotechnology toolbox, which will enable improved colchicine biomanufacturing. Result Transcriptomes of two colchicine synthesizing monocots G. superba and C. autumnale were interrogated to identify putative cDNAs encoding enzymes and transcription factors involved in the colchicine biosynthetic pathway and rhizome development. Mining of the transcriptomes using Blast2GO led to the identification from G. superba and C. autumnale, respectively, of 20 and 29 candidate colchicine biosynthetic genes N-methyltransferases, 3-O-methyltransferases, cytochrome P450s, a class that could catalyze several steps in the pathway, and N-acetyltransferases. Similarly, 19 and 15 candidate rhizome developmental genes, which belongs to several classes including GIGANTEA, CONSTANS, Phytochrome B, Sucrose Synthase), Flowering Locus T, and REVOLUTA. Likewise, about 16 and 12 transcription factors involved in regulating rhizome development and secondary metabolic pathways in rhizomes such as MADS-box, AP2-EREBP, bHLH, MYB, NAC, and WRKY were also found in G. superba and C. autumnale, respectively. Conclusion The predicted genes in G. superba and C. autumnale encode colchicine pathway enzymes that provide fundamental information for plant-based biomedicine engineering in biorhizomes and microorganisms, a potentially important area of synthetic biotechnology. Additionally, increasing our understanding of rhizome functional genomics will lead to improved colchicine biomanufacturing, and generate important knowledge that can be applied to many other medicinal plant species, allowing for the engineered production of additional biomedicines in medicinal rhizomes.
