The subject of the research is the customer motivation towards certain banks regardless of the pricing policy. The aim of this study is to determine the significance of non-price factors for attracting customers by banks and its influence on banks’ revenues and profit. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study included the scientific works of foreign scientists on the influence of non-price factors on customer loyalty in banking. The author used methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of scientific publications, regulatory and legal sources, retrospective statistical data, and analytics of well-known consulting firms. The results of the study suggest areas for improvement for commercial banks in terms of the quality of values (non-price) offered to customers and approaches to understanding customer loyalty. The author concludes that despite the importance of banking services cost reduction and thus intensifying competition, a constant focus on cutting prices, which are relatively the same for all banks in terms of product range and basic conditions, does not necessarily contribute to expanded market share and profitability of financial institutions, while a comprehensive understanding of customer needs, timely and relevant offers, a personalized customer service, as well as a bank’s shifting focus from a product to a customer problem-solving approach will help banks to attract customers, improve their loyalty, increase service sales and expand the product range, ultimately, spurring growth and better economics for banks.

The study's goal is to figure the optimal balance between traditional activities and non-banking services of credit institutions. This suppose to strengthen their position in the face of penetration of digital competitors into banking operations (Internet banks, financial and large technology companies, telecoms). The theoretical and methodological basis of the research was formed by the scientific works of foreign scientists and experts on improving the efficiency of banking institutions. There were used methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of scientific publications, analytical materials of well-known consulting companies, statistical data. As a result, the author found a technological transformation is required using such approaches to customer service (retail and corporate) that reflect their needs in banking with the intensive use of relevant competencies in cash management, means and risks. That will cause to protect the banking business from digital competitors and increase its market capitalization. All these measures will be able to induce clients to use more extensively the banks opportunities and help them to increase investments in their core business, thereby contributing to its growth. The author concludes that being developed ecosystems, it is advisable for banks to focus on services close to their core work, as well as on increasing the efficiency of their own activities and providing new services. Meanwhile, the marketplaces development within the banking ecosystems does not give the latter advantages in the competition in the banking services market.

Customer service is crucially important for online shopping platforms (OSPs) such as eBay and Taobao. Based on the well-established service quality instruments and the scenario of the specific case on Taobao, this paper focuses on exploring the service quality of an OSP with an aim of revealing customer perceptions of the service quality associated with the provided functions and investigating their impacts on customer loyalty. By an empirical study, this paper finds that the “fulfillment and responsiveness” function is significantly related to the customer loyalty. Further analytical study is conducted to reveal that the optimal service level on the “fulfillment and responsiveness” function for the risk averse OSP uniquely exists. Moreover, the analytical results prove that (i) if the customer loyalty is more positively correlated to the service level, it will lead to a larger optimal service level, and (ii) the optimal service level is independent of the profit target, the source of uncertainty, and the risk preference of the OSP.
