This study aims to examine the influence of the media and the storage period on the viability of clove seeds. The study was conducted at the Ambon Plant Crops Protection and Protection Center laboratory. The study used a factorial completely randomized design with two types of factors and three replications. The storage media consists of 3 levels, namely: Without the storage media, the media for storing rice husk and the media for storing sawdust. The second factor is the storage period consists of 4 levels, namely: 10 days storage, 20 days storage, 30 days storage and 40 days storage. The parameters measured were germination power, germination rate, and vigor index. Storage media and storage period significantly affected germination and vigor indexes but did not significantly affect germination rates. The results showed that the sawdust storage media was a good medium for storing clove seeds (Syzygium aromaticum L.). This can be seen in the results of the average germination of clove seeds stored in powder storage media with a storage time of 10 days giving better results of 85% compared to rice husks at a storage time of 10 days with a germination percentage of 65%.  Keywords: clove seeds, save media, save period   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh media dan periode simpan terhadap viabilitas benih cengkeh. Penelitian dilaksanakan di laboratorium Balai Besar Perbenihan dan Proteksi Tanaman Perkebunan Ambon. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dengan dua macam faktor dan tiga kali ulangan. Media simpan terdiri dari 3 taraf yaitu: Tanpa media simpan, media simpan sekam padi dan media simpan serbuk gergaji. Faktor kedua adalah periode simpan terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu: penyimpanan 10 hari, penyimpanan 20 hari, penyimpanan 30 hari dan penyimpanan 40 hari. Parameter yang diukur adalah daya berkecambah, laju perkecambahan dan indeks vigor. Media simpan dan periode penyimpanan berpengaruh nyata pada persentase perkecambahan dan indeks vigor tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata pada laju perkecambahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa media simpan serbuk gergaji merupakan media yang baik bagi penyimpanan benih cengkeh (Syzygium aromaticum L.). Hal ini terlihat pada hasil rata-rata daya berkecambah benih cengkeh yang disimpan pada media simpan serbuk dengan lama penyimpanan selama 10 hari memberikan hasil yang lebih baik yakni 85% jika dibandingkan dengan sekam padi pada lama penyimpanan 10 hari dengan persentase perkecambahan 65%. In order to investigate the effect of hydro-priming on seed germination with distilled water on germination of five Alfalfa cultivars under salinity stress, an experiment was conducted as a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with three replications. Seven levels of hydro-priming and salinity of NaCl including prime and non-salinity, prime and 50 mM salinity, prime and 100 mM salinity, prime and 150 mM salinity, prime and 200 mM salinity, prime and 250 mM salinity and without prime and salinity and five alfalfa varieties, including ‘Hamedani’, ‘Isfahani’, ‘Bami’, ‘Yazdi’ and ‘Ghareh Yonjeh’ were used. The results showed that the main effect of prime, salinity and cultivars and their interaction in all studied traits were significantly affected at the 5% probability level. Priming treatments in non-salinity of all cultivars were the highest. In all cultivars, final germination percentage, length and weight of radicle, plumule and seedling, germination rate and time, relative radicle elongation, vigor index and stress index, were significantly improved in response to priming in salinity levels of 50-200 mM, compared to control. Radicle produced higher length and weight than the plumule in hydro- priming and salinity treatments. ‘Hamedani’ cultivar in most of studied characteristics had a better response than others. The lowest response to salinity stress and priming was observed in ‘Yazdi’ cultivar.

Passiflora ligularis Juss. é considerada apropriada ao consumo, tendo em vista, por exemplo, seus usos in natura, para sucos e sorvetes, mas não se conhecem pesquisas que obtiveram sucessos sobre o seu desenvolvimento e adaptação em território brasileiro. O custo alto da granadilla para o consumidor, aliado à dificuldade de ser adquirida, inclusive nos supermercados, justificam estudos com o objetivo de verificar a adaptabilidade desta espécie em algumas regiões do Brasil, com potencial produtivo. No presente ensaio, como contribuição às pesquisas sobre o comportamento da granadilla no Brasil, objetivou-se obter informações sobre o efeito do tempo e da condição de armazenamento na germinação das sementes e no desenvolvimento inicial das mudas. As sementes de granadilla foram obtidas de frutos provenientes da Colômbia. O ensaio constou da avaliação da qualidade das sementes com três diferentes períodos de armazenamento, obtendo-se o índice de velocidade de emergência (IVE); porcentagem de germinação e desenvolvimento das mudas. Os tratamentos foram: tratamento A – sementes armazenadas há 24 meses; tratamento B – sementes armazenadas há 3 meses; e tratamento C – sementes sem armazenamento. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 50 sementes, aplicando-se o teste Tukey a 1% de probabilidade. A obtenção de mudas deve ser feita a partir de sementes mantidas em câmara fria, por período superior a 101 dias. Sementes recém-retiradas de frutos possuem baixa porcentagem de germinação e menor crescimento em altura quando comparadas com plantas provenientes das sementes armazenadas por 24 meses. Storage Time and Conditions of Seeds in Germination and Development of Passiflora ligularis Juss ABSTRACT: Passiflora ligularis Juss. is highly consumed by people, especially in natura, as juice and ice-cream. However, no successful research is extant on its development and adaptation in Brazil. The high costs of granadilla and the difficulty to buy it, even in supermarkets, justify analysis to verify the adaptability of the species, with production potential, at least in some regions of the country. Current assay is a contribution for research on the behavior of granadilla in Brazil so that information on the effect of time and storage conditions may be obtained for seed germination and the early development stages of the seedlings. Granadilla seeds came from Colombian fruit and the assay focused on the evaluation of seed quality with three different storage periods, with emergence velocity index (EVI) and percentage of seedlings´ germination and development. Treatments comprised Treatment A – seeds stored for 24 months; Treatment B – seeds stored for 3 months; Treatment C – seeds without storage. Randomized design with four replications of 50 seeds was employed and comparisons made by Tukey´s test at 1% probability. Seedlings should be obtained from seeds kept in cold chambers for a period of more than 101 days. Seeds which had been only recently removed from the fruit have low germination percentage and small height growth when compared with plants from seeds stored for 24 months. This study aims to determine the effect of immersing in duku fruit peel solution on physicochemical and microbiological quality of Pegagan duck eggs during storage at room temperature. This study used a complete randomized design (CRD) with a 5x3 factorial patterned. The first factor was the immersion time consisting of 5 levels, namely 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 min. The second factor was the storage time which includes 3 levels, which were 0, 7 and 14 d. The replication used was 3 times. The observed variables were physicochemical and microbiological quality of egg, including albumen index (AI), yolk index (YI), Haugh unit (HU), moisture content (MC), protein content (PC), fat content (FC),total microbes (TM) and antioxidant activity (AA). The data were processed by analysis of variance, continued with Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT). The results showed that there was a significant interaction (P<0.05) between immersion time and storage time on AI, YI, HU, MC, PC, TM, and AA. Futhermore, the difference of immersion time and storage period was also significantly influenced (P<0.05) to all observed variables including AI, YI, HU, MC, PC, TM, and AA of duck eggs.It can be concluded that the immersion process for 60 min showed the best results on the physical, chemical,

In developing productive forests, seeds play a crucial role. The seeds of forests tree have physical condition of hard seed coat, especially Leguminoceae family. Silvicultural techniques that can overcome seed coat dormancy are dyeing and submersion of seeds. The knowledge and experience in breaking seed dormancy of Sengon (Paracerianthes falcataria L.) is rare, therefore it is necessary to study how to overcome seed dormancy. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dyeing and submersion treatments to overcome seed dormancy of Sengon seed to improve its viability. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: namely Seed (Factor A), dipped in hot water at 60 º C for (A0 = Control, A1 = 2 minutes, A2 = 4 minutes, A3 = 6 minutes), Factor B, seeds soaked in cold water: (B0 = control, B1 = 6 hours of soaking, B2 = 12 hours, B3 = 18 hours, B4 = 24 hours). The parameters observed were germination percentage, germination rate and vigor index. The results showed that among all parameters observed the interaction of factors A1B2, A2B2 and A3B2 were the best treatment for germination percentage which was equal to 100 percent, the best germination rate of 3.897 days and the best vigor index of 27.02

Post-harvest handling in shallot such as drying of bulbs can influence its quality during and after storage. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of drying and storage treatment on the quality of shallot bulbs during 12 weeks of storage . The study was carried out in Samiran hamlet, Parangtritis village, Bantul district, Special Region of Yogyakarta and Crop Science Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, from June until November 2016. It was arranged in factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) and consisted of two factors. The first was the drying treatments: drying the bulbs on the field and on woven bamboo nets both plastic covered and uncovered. The second was the storage treatments: storing the bulbs in the farmer’s warehouse (31,030C±0,04 and RH of 60,50%±0,28), in air-conditioned room (22,40oC± 0,02 and RH of 61,60%±0,09), and at room temperature (30,47oC±0,03 and RH of 60,50%±0,12). Each treatment combination was replicated three times as blocks. The results showed that water content of all treatments were changing followed by fluctuating of the total soluble solid throughout the storage period while bulb firmness tended to decrease. Bulbs which were stored in air-conditioned rooms showed the highest percentage of sprouted bulbs, vigor index and germination rate than other treatments. Meanwhile, drying treatment did not give significant influence.

A research on sausage scad fish (Decapterus sp) using 4 treatments with 3 replications with complete randomized design. Washing is done 0 to 3 times and storage for 0 to 9 days. The results of the study addressed the interaction of storage time washing meat and kite fish sausage (Decapterus sp) are fortified with Moringa leaves an effect on levels of protein, fat and water content. Organoleptic quality sausages from the value in 9 days can still be accepted by the panelists. During storage protein value reduction from 0 days (16.38%) decreased (14.40%) on day 9. The water content increased from 0 days up to 61.22% 66.96% on day 9. Fat in fish sausage 0.64% down 0.19% on day 9. Good quality sausage was taken 9 days because of the old fish sausage stored beyond 9 days is not liked by the panelists, because the texture and taste was not good© Penelitian pembuatan sosis ikan layang (Decapterus sp) menggunakan 4 perlakuan dengan 3 kali ulangan dengan metode rancangan acak lengkap (RAL). Pencucian dilakukan 0 sampai 3 kali dan penyimpanan selama 0 sampai 9 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa interaksi pencucian daging dan lama penyimpanan sosis ikan layang (Decapterus sp) yang difortifikasi dengan daun kelor berpengaruh terhadap kadar protein, lemak dan kadar air. Mutu sosis dari nilai organoleptik dalam 9 hari masih bisa diterima oleh panelis. Selama penyimpanan nilai protein terjadi penurunan dari 0 hari (16,38%) menurun (14,40%) pada hari ke-9. Kadar air mengalami kenaikan dari 0 hari 61,22 % naik menjadi 66,96% pada hari ke-9. Lemak pada sosis ikan 0,64 % turun 0,19% pada hari ke-9. Sosis yang baik mutunya adalah dibawa 9 hari karena sosis ikan yang lama penyimpanannya melebihi dari 9 hari sudah tidak disukai oleh panelis, karena tekstur dan rasa sudah kurang baik©

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the interaction effect of storage time and concentration of plantain peel extract and lemongrass on organoleptic characteristics (color, aroma, texture, and elasticity) and total microbes in chicken meatballs. This study used a 2-Factorial Completely Randomized Design method. The first factor was storage time with three levels, namely 0 days (T0), 2 days (T1), and 4 days (T2. Meanwhile, the second factor was the concentration of plantain peel and lemongrass extract with three levels, namely 0% (C0), 30% plantain peel extract + 20% lemongrass extract (C1), 20% banana peel extract + 30% lemongrass extract (C2), and 25% banana peel extract + 25% lemongrass extract (C3). Observation variables were organoleptic tests which included color, aroma, texture, elasticity, and shelf life after treatment based on the results of the total plate count (TPC) calculation. The results show that the 2-day storage period with the addition of 25% plantain peel extract and 25% lemongrass extract (T1C3) was the best treatment for organoleptic characteristics (color, aroma, texture, and elasticity). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the administration of plantain peel extract and lemongrass was able to maintain the quality of chicken meatballs for two different days compared to the control. Treatment with a storage period of 2 days with 25% plantain peel extract and 25% lemongrass extract (T1C3) was the best treatment that was most favored by the panelists and had the least number of microbial colonies.Keywords: Meatballs, preservatives, banana peel extract and lemongrass, storage time.ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh interaksi lama penyimpanan dan konsentrasi ekstrak kulit pisang raja dan serai terhadap uji organoleptik (warna, aroma, tekstur dan kekenyalan) dan total mikroba pada bakso ayam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap Faktorial 2 Faktor. Faktor Pertama adalah lama penyimpanan yang terdiri dari tiga taraf yaitu 0 hari (T0), 2 hari (T1) dan 4 hari (T2), faktor kedua yaitu perlakuan ekstrak kulit pisang raja yang terdiri atas tiga taraf yaitu konsentrasi 0% (C0), konsentrasi ekstrak kulit pisang raja 30% + konsentrasi ekstrak serai 20% (C1), konsentrasi ekstrak kulit pisang raja 20% + konsentrasi ekstrak serai 30% (C2), konsentrasi ekstrak kulit pisang raja 25% + konsentrasi serai 25% (C3). Variabel pengamatan yaitu uji organoleptik yang meliputi warna, aroma, tekstur, kekenyalan dan daya simpan setelah perlakuan berdasarkan hasil perhitungan jumlah total plate count (TPC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan lama penyimpanan 2 hari dengan penambahan ekstrak kulit pisang raja 25% dab serai 25% (T1C3) merupakan perlakuan terbaik untuk uji organoleptik (warna, aroma, tekstur dan kekenyalan). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak kulit pisang raja dan serai mampu mempertahankan kualitas bakso ayam selama dua hari yang berbeda dengan kontrol. Perlakuan dengan lama penyimpanan 2 hari dengan pemberianekstrak kulit pisang raja 25% dan serai 25% (T1C3) merupakan perlakuan terbaik yang paling disukai oleh panelis dan memiliki jumlah koloni mikroba paling sedikit.Kata kunci: Bakso, pengawet, ekstrak kulit pisang dan serai, lama penyimpanan

Plants such as wheat and barley that are strategically important crops need to be considered to develop a comprehensive toxicity profile for nanoparticles (NPs). The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of chitosan and SiO2 NPs on wheat and barley plants. Two factorial experiments (seeds priming and direct exposure) were performed based on a completely randomized design in four replications. Results showed that the seeds priming with the NPs had not significant effect on germination parameters such as Germination Percentage (GP), Germination Rate (GR), Germination Value (GV), Mean Germination Time (MGT), Pick Value (PV) and Mean Daily Germination (MDG). In contrast, exposure of the seeds to the NPs had significant effects on these parameters. In both experiments, treatments had significant effects on shoot, seedling, root length, fresh and dry weight, as well as vigor indexes as compared to the control. In most traits, the best concentration of NPs was 30 ppm, whereas applications of the NPs with 90 ppm displayed adverse effects on majority of the studied traits. According to these results, selectivity in applications of NPs with suitable concentration and method is essential for different plant species.

ABSTRACT Allelopathy contributes to the sustainable management of weeds in growing areas, due to its ability to inhibit the development of weed species. This study aimed to evaluate the allelopathic effect of Pachyrhizus erosus extract on Euphorbia heterophylla and Bidens pilosa germination. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 2 x 2 x 4 factorial scheme, with four replications. The first factor corresponded to the plant portion (shoot and tuberous root), the second to the extract preparation method (water at room temperature and boiling) and the third to the extract concentrations (0 %, 25 %, 50 % and 100 %). Phytochemical analyses were performed to identify the presence of secondary metabolites. The variables germination percentage, germination rate index and dry biomass decreased with increasing aqueous extract concentrations for both E. heterophylla and B. pilosa. When applied a P. erosus crude shoot extract (boiling), decreases of 18 % and 92 % were observed in the E. heterophylla and B. pilosa germination, respectively, with a decrease of 91 % in the dry biomass of E. heterophylla seedlings. The tuberous root extract (boiling), on the other hand, reduced the germination percentages for E. heterophylla and B. pilosa in 18 % and 80 %, respectively. The phytochemical evaluation indicated the presence of flavonoids, coumarins and saponins in the shoot and tuberous root extracts, while tannins were only observed in the shoot extract. Thus, it can be concluded that P. erosus extracts display an allelopathic effect on the weed species evaluated.

This study aims to determine the dose of Trichoderma koningii which can induce soursop germination; know the best soaking time that can affect the induction of soursop germination; to know the interaction between soaking time and Trichoderma koningii dose on soursop germination. This research was conducted in April - June 2019 at the Green House of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. The material used in this study was soursop seed obtained from Lota Village, Pineleng Tomohon Subdistrict, Trichoderma koningii with 106 solids obtained from the North Sulawesi Province Plant Protection Center Collection, Aquadest, 70% Alcohol, 80% Acetone, sandalready sifter and sterilized. This research was arranged in factorial with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors, namely 5 treatments of Trichoderma koningii dose and 4 immersion treatments repeated three times (3x) so that a total of 60 treatment units. Each treatment unituses 10 seeds. The results of this study indicated that the dose of Trichoderma koninggi 200 g without soaking can increase the germination power by 86.67% and the vigor index by 32.96%; Immersion with Koninggi Trichoderma suspension has not been able to induce soursop seed germination rate; Theinteraction between Trichoderma koningii dose and soaking time did not affect the speed of soursop seed germination.*eprm*
