Nursing informatics competency has crucial functions in the development of a hospital and patient safety. On the basis of the theory of self-concept, there has been an inadequate study of the influence of transformational leadership on nursing informatics competency mediated by innovation self-efficacy. A descriptive correlational research design was conducted for 586 Chinese nurses from five public hospitals. The measurements were obtained from a questionnaire on transformational leadership, nursing informatics competency, innovation self-efficacy, and a sociodemographic datasheet. We identified a positive correlation between transformational leadership and nursing informatics competency. Innovation self-efficacy had a mediating effect. Managers need to provide measures to shape their transformational leadership style and promote innovation self-efficacy of nurses, which enhances nursing informatics competency of nurses.

Our education system has been remoulding rapidly because of modernization. Transformational leadership style leads to favourable changes in those who follow. These leaders put in maximum efforts to increase the level of follower’s awareness for valued outcomes by expanding and elevating their needs and encouraging them to transcend their self-interests. Transformational leadership plays pivotal role in promoting and managing school development by influencing the self-efficacy of teachers. Self-efficacy is one of the four major components of positive psychological capital .School is the first and foremost important platform of education. The present paper makes an attempt to study the relationship between transformational leadership style of principal and self-efficacy of school teachers. For this, a total sample of 120 (n=20 school principals having minimum 7-8yrs. experience and n= 100 school teachers having minimum 5yrs.experience of senior classes) were taken. The ratio was 1:5 (1 principal and 5 teacher from the same school). The scores of 1 principal were assigned to 5 teachers. Teacher self-efficacy scale by Schwarzer, Schmitz and Daytner and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire by Bass and Avolio were used to measure the above variables. The data were analysed with the help of Correlation and Regression technique. Obtained findings revealed the positive correlation of idealized influence, individualized consideration, contingent reward, management-by-exception and laissez-faire leadership with self-efficacy.

Purpose – While the significance of principals for the organizational behavior of schools is crucial, school leaders’ influence on school outcomes is indirect and mediated through various means that leaders employ in order to increase the productivity of their school. Although the exercise of power is viewed among the main factors explaining followers’ willingness to comply with leaders’ demands and means to promote school effectiveness, it is rather surprising that the educational administration literature lacks substantial evidence testifying to the mediating effect that principals’ use of various powerbases has on school effectiveness. The purpose of this paper is to make an attempt to fill this gap. Design/methodology/approach – Questionnaires were administered to 954 teachers coming from 191 randomly sampled public elementary schools. Findings – Evidence testifying to the relation between leadership styles and use of powerbases suggests that the transformational leadership style is positively related to the use of soft powerbases and negatively related to the use of harsh powerbases. Findings also show that leadership style and powerbase utilization differentiate effective and ineffective schools. Finally, it is evident that soft powerbases such as expertise, personal reward and referent powerbases partially mediate the relation between the transformational leadership style and school effectiveness, moderating the negative relation found between the passive leadership style and school effectiveness. Originality/value – These findings confirm that powerbases are in fact a mechanism through which school leaders influence school effectiveness. Implications are further discussed.

This paper is an attempt to consolidate the published scientific knowledge about the impact of leadership styles on the relationship between innovation and organisational performance. Concepts, statements and conceptual frameworks were used as structure to analyse the body of scientific knowledge. After consulting 31 major research databases using the systematic literature review methodology, only seven journals articles that examined the link between leadership, innovation and organisational performance were identified. The synthesis of the journal articles revealed (a) that consensus exists among researchers as far as the relevant concepts are concerned; (b) that most agree on the definition of leadership and innovation but that a uniform understanding of what constitutes organisational performance is lacking; and (c) that conceptual models are too simplistic and do not consider mediator variables or multiple financial criteria measures. The findings further reveal that innovation is significantly and positively related to superior organisational performance, and that, although transformational leadership style is significantly and positively related to innovation, transactional leadership style is more appropriate when the aim is to instil a culture of innovation. Transformational leadership style, by contrast, is mostly associated with organisational performance. In addition, the findings further reveal that none of the studies investigate the mediating effect of the nature of innovation (incremental and radical) on the relationship between leadership and organisational performance, and that none of the studies use the objective measures of financial performance such as ROA, ROE, price/earnings (P/E) and Tobin’s Q calculated from annual financial reports.
