This major research project challenges the concept of functionality as a masculine prerogative and its naturalized association to men’s fashion, within a North American context. I used Queer theory and concepts of gender performativity as a theoretical framework to support the exploration of the relationship between masculinity and function, and femininity and fashion. The research employs practice-led methodologies that bridge the gap between theory and practice by reflecting the process of theorizing fashion and seeing the result of its production in the real world. The project produced eight original footwear designs, four of which were fabricated using leather, rubber and plastics. I developed the footwear with the goal of creating accessibility and understandability to afford “wearability”. The overarching purpose of this study was to develop footwear that cannot be classified according to normative gender identity formulations, and that makes consumers reflect on the significance of gender in fashion.

This paper presents a brief account of the form and function of the “table of contents” to establish a theoretical framework for understanding the form and function of this common element of book architecture with the aim of informing the development of a dynamic table of contexts for books and reading in the digital medium. This paper will thus theorize the relationship between textual studies and interface design in INKE, a project for Implementing New Knowledge Environments.

Teoria. Prática. Licenciatura. Abstract This article aims to investigate the relationship between theory and practice for the building of teaching knowledge and the evidenced contributions for the Pedagogy Licensiature students participants in PIBID Program (Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships), in which it is sougth to reflect the discussions about PIBID and its contributions to the initial teacher training process. As a theoretical framework, three knowledge categories are considered : Knowledge, Pedagogical and Experience. To achieve the objective, a questionnaire with semi-structured questions was applied to thirty participants in Pibid Program of Pitágoras Unopar University - Londrina. The results are presented of “Acquaintance of Knowledge” category and of the “Being a Pedagogue” subcategory. The results reveal that the PIBID students mobilize and develop knowledge related to the teaching profession by participating in PIBID. The experience at PIBID provided an opportunity for reflection on professional and personal skills about being a Pedagogue committed to the search for effective actions to achieve quality education. AbstractThis paper investigates the relationship between textuality and mathematics in theSaṅgītaratnākara, a Sanskrit work on music composed in the thirteenth century by Śārṅgadeva. Within the traditional Sanskrit knowledge system on musicology, theSaṅgītaratnākaracan be regarded as a seminal work, given the commentaries it has inspired and the innovative features it contains. I shall explore some textual aspects which, in Medieval India, have contributed to establish the authority of this text and whose significance can be traced in later works. Among these are types of verbalization and mathematical procedures whose role, I shall argue, is entirely theoretical. In theSaṅgītaratnākara, calculations and diagrams underline an innovative language of musical speculation, as well as the relationship between theory and practice and the shaping influence of otherśāstrictraditions. The set of conventions which are based on a vocabulary and methods shared with other technical literatures, particularly prosody and mathematics, attests the variety of literary practices introduced by Śārṅgadeva. I shall argue that this text builds up a code whose aim and function are not necessarily musicological in character. Although orality clearly retains its special status as the archetype of learning, Śārṅgadeva’s contribution manifests the autonomy of literature on saṅgītaas an “art” which constitutes an independent sphere of activity, defining its own rules, and adhering to its own criteria of value.

This creative Major Research Project (MRP) uses a practice-led research method approach to investigate a correlation between the queer body and the grotesque. The research questions attempt to explore the way queer bodies are used to transgress and subvert both heteronormative and homonormative ideologies and masculinities using grotesque humour. This project also examines the relationship between fashion and the body to resist normative values and ideals. Artistic practices combine to create a volume of work consisting of collage, underwear garments, and photographs. These creative outputs are then analyzed and discussed with a focus on Mikhail Bakhtin’s theories of the grotesque and carnivalesque, Gilles Deleuze’s theory of the Body without Organs, and queer theory.

The construction of traditional gender roles has affected the understanding of being feminine and masculine. This understanding seems to influence gender performance in the film Mrs. Doubtfire. This onehourandfiftysevenminute film was directed by Chris Columbus. This study is conducted to examine how gender performativity is illustrated in the film and what ideology lies within the film. Queer theory, especially gender performativity by Judith Butler is used as the framework of the study. The study is done by observing and analysing chosen scenes from the film focusing on the performance of Daniel Hillard as Euphegenia Doubtfire. Narrative aspect of the film is not only the main concern; the nonnarrative is also part of the analysis especially on costume, makeup, performance and color. The main finding of this study is this film in one hand celebrates traditional gender roles but on the other hand promotes gender as performance. Femininity is pictured as fluid. Therefore, it is also a performativity. The contestation between those two opposing ideas is smoothly wrapped through amusing film such as Mrs. Doubtfire. KataKata Kunci: konstruksi gender; performativitas gende; teori queer

Hindu philosophy sees death as part of the cycle of life, and celebrates it. Despite this, crematoria and cemeteries have been largely ignored in architectural treatises in India. Funerary spaces are influenced by three centuries-old layers: religion, region, and time. This paper seeks to understand the architectural variation in funerary space by focussing on region (context) and time (temporal and/or political impact) to see how they influence form and function. By comparing examples from Hyderabad and Varanasi the paper lays out a theoretical framework for both rituals (based on scriptures) and the spaces in which they are enacted, so that these ancient traditions, and their architectural articulations, can be passed on for the future.

This study investigates the issue of gender performativity in Stieg Larsson’s novel The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2008). Judith Butler’s ideas on gender performativity serve as the theoretical framework of this study. A qualitative method is preferred as the study is heavily permeated with textual-analysis. The main objective of this study is to center on Larsson’s presentation of Lisbeth Salander in challenging boundaries in terms of how gender is presented and perceived. The study also provides analysis of other female characters, to see if they challenge or conform to the socially accepted notions of what it means to be a woman. The findings show that Stieg Larsson imbues his novel with the idea of challenging female stereotypes by developing fluidity within Salander’s gender identity. Larsson further ingrains gender performativity in all the female characters – they perform their gender identities differently in order to protect themselves from male-dominated society. However, the novel proves to be paradoxical as it shows an incessant reference to female characters in inferior circumstances. Keywords: Feminism, Gender, Identity, Performativity, Stereotypes

Society constructs gender to distinguish the sexes of men and women. They believe that human is only born with two types male and female. Those are included in the term heteronormativity who have only two gender or sexual orientation options. Queer refers to people who have a gender identity or sexual orientation that differs from their biological gender. One of the terms Queer is Transgender which is a term for someone who needs recognition of gender identity from anatomical gender assigned at birth, or those who are considered ambiguous in their gender. Society finds it difficult to accept the existence of transgender because of the heteronormative. The experience of the story felt by transgender people is represented in the film Just Charlie (2017). This study aims to examine how gender identity is performed in the Just Charlie (2017) and how is the response of society. The theory used in this analysis is Judith Butler's "Queer" theory, specifically Butler’s gender performativity. This qualitative study has resulted in two findings. First, the main character showed the major terms of gender performativity such as an act of cross-dressing, repetition, and revelation. Second, although the United Kingdom is a liberal country, people still cannot be free to choose their gender preference. This study proved that gender performativity makes the identity of gender not only determined by the sexual genital from birth but also something act repeatedly.
