The purpose of this study was to explore on strengthening character education through e-books for online or distance learning in the times of COVID-19. The present study employs a descriptive qualitative with the aim of being able to provide clear, objective, systematic, analytical descriptions and information, and critical aspect of Character Education-Based E-book for learning during the Covid 19 era in higher education. There were several steps such as collecting the required data, then classification and description were carried out. The sources of data in this study were government policies, books and articles concerning the implementation of distance learning during the covid 19 period and character education. The method used to collect research data is in the form of literary data that has been selected, searched, presented, and analyzed. The application of Indonesian e-books based on character education is a solution that can be done to overcome the problems of character education during the COVID-19 crisis, especially regarding the use of diction and literature. Findings suggests that in utilizing E-book, character values ​​can be inserted in the introduction, materials, and assignments to induce character values to students. Additionally, the e-book was developed based on the curriculum and the values ​​of character education. E-books are provided in online learning and can be studied by students from their homes both online and offline. In order to attract the attention of students, the e-book must be designed to be visually attractive so that the material within can be learned and easily understood by students.

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to investigate the obstacles of e-learning, especially for students, and to find out students' perception in facing e-learning during coronavirus disease pandemic (covid-19). The rapid spread of coronavirus urges universities on a world-wide scale to do e-learning, including universities in Indonesia. This study uses online interviews and questionnaires to obtain the data, and descriptive qualitative method is used to analyse the data. The respondents in this study are 126 students with different majors from 21 universities in all across Indonesia, consisting of 6 state universities and 15 private ones. The results of the study reveal that e-learning has been carried out by universities in the country. It also shows there are several aspects such as the availability of online learning facilities, the use of facilities, learning processes, and some more points that need to reconsider or to optimize conducting the e-learning for the long term.Keywords: e-learning; students; pandemic

Higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) adopted a distance/online learning approach during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to ensure that students were safe while they received an uninterrupted, high-quality education off-campus. This was the first time that all of the higher education institutions adopted this approach. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct this study to gain insight into graduate students’ experiences in distance learning and to verify whether these experiences are linked to their achievements. The purpose of this study was to examine graduate students’ experiences toward online and distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in the academic year 2020–2021 and their academic achievement. A questionnaire was developed for this study and sent online to graduate students’ emails with the coordination of the College of Graduate Studies at a higher education institution in the UAE. The study received 138 responses. The data was analyzed using IBMSPSS-26. The findings of the study showed that graduate students’ level of Engagement, ease of Communication, and quality of learning Experience with online/distance learning were related significantly to their overall academic achievement.

Online distance learning is offered not only in post-secondary distance education institutions but in traditional universities as well. With advances in mobile and wireless technologies, completing academic studies anywhere anytime should become feasible. Research in distance education and online learning has focused on computer-mediated communication, instructional design, learner characteristics, educational technology, and learning outcomes. However, little attention has been given to where exactly learners do their learning and studying and how the physical and social aspects of the physical environment within which the online learner is physically embedded (e.g., the home) supports and constrains learning activities. In this paper, the author proposes a conceptual model for understanding the role that the physical environment plays in online distance learning in higher education, drawing on theories and research in environmental psychology, online learning, telework and mobile work, and higher education. Several gaps in research are identified, and suggestions for future research are proposed.

Introduction. During the past ten years the important changes in educational programs of higher education point out the transition from the traditional live lecture form to the distance learning form (the online training format). Training for innovative engineering activities requires to involve students in the online training format and to explore its applicability.The aim of the present article is to identify the areas of the effective use of the online training format in the educational process for high school institutions and the prospects of further development of the distance learning.Methodology and research methods. In this article, an integration of theoretical and practical training of the innovative engineering with the methods of the analysis and synthesis, a pedagogical experiment and mathematical statistics were used.Results. The areas of use of the online learning in the field of traditional and innovative formats of training have been identified. A subsystem of storage of the information on the course of educational activities is suggested. A high efficiency of the distance learning application is confirmed by the results of a pedagogical experiment within the unified programs for a wide audience of students and persons having the right to an individual work schedule.Scientific novelty. The performed research contributes to identify the framework of the effective use of the online learning at higher education institutions. The suggested form of storage of the information on the education process events in a separate subsystem allow for processing and generalising the data with the use of the BigData and DataMining technologies.Practical significance. Further development of the research presented in this article might be focused on the establishment of numerical relations when using various education formats within various disciplines providing the greatest effect when training students at higher education institutions.

It is highlighted in the study that digital transformations of the fourth industrial revolution are changing the modern human world, encouraging a person to acquire new competencies and become a qualified specialist in the digital economy. In connection with the progressive scientific and technical development, the institute of higher education is being transformed; new previously unknown approaches to the organization of higher education appear. One of such approaches is the introduction of online learning in higher education. The authors refer to the experience of 2020, when, during the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection, the whole world began to actively transfer work processes to a remote format, which also affected the institute of education. Universities around the world introduced distance learning using information technology, which helped students and faculty communicate at a distance. Based on the analysis, the following conclusions were drawn: digitalization of higher education in Russian universities is currently associated with the use of information and communication technologies in the educational environment and to a lesser extent with the use of electronic educational environment in the indirect interaction of students and teaching staff. In our opinion, it is necessary for the digitalization process to be consistent and not to be reduced to full distance learning, but to competently integrate information technology into the traditional learning process.

Данная статья посвящена особенностям формирования иноязычной коммуникативной компетентности студентов вуза в условиях дистанционного обучения. Актуальность проводимого исследования заключается в попытке разрешения противоречия между необходимостью использования информационно-коммуникационных технологий, в том числе и дистанционного обучения, в образовательном процессе высших учебных заведений и недостаточностью условий для реализации их инновационного потенциала. В этой связи автором была уточнена сущность понятий «дистанционное образование», «дистанционное обучение», «дистанционные образовательные технологии», «онлайн-обучение», определена их роль в контексте новой образовательной парадигмы современности, проанализирован практический опыт применения онлайн-обучения в целях формирования иноязычной коммуникативной компетентности студентов вуза, а также даны рекомендации по использованию цифровых ресурсов на занятиях по практическому курсу французского языка. В ходе наблюдения за учебным процессом в дистанционном формате и беседы со студентами 4 курса Института лингвистики и мировых языков Калужского государственного университета им. К.Э. Циолковского, автор приходит к выводу, что при условии решения ряда проблем организационного и технического характера дистанционное обучение представляет большие перспективы в развитии высшего образования в России. Статья предназначена для работников системы образования, исследователей и педагогов-практиков. This article is devoted to the peculiarities of formation of foreign-language communicative competence of university students in the conditions of distance learning. The relevance of the research is an attempt to resolve the contradiction between the need to use information and communication technologies, including distance learning, in the educational process of higher education institutions and the lack of conditions for the realization of their innovative potential. In this regard, the author clarified the essence of the concepts of «distance education», «distance learning», «distance learning technologies», «online learning», defined their role in the context of the new educational paradigm, analyzed the practical experience of using online learning in order to form the foreign language communicative competence of university students and gave recommendations for the application of digital resources in the practical French course. During the observation of the learning process in a distance format and conversation with fourth-year students of the Institute of Linguistics and World Languages of K.E. Tsiolkovsky Kaluga State University, the author concludes that if a number of organizational and technical problems are solved, distance learning is very promising for the development of higher education in Russia. The article is intended for employees of the education system, researchers and teachers-practitioners.

Indonesia adapted a new change in the education system since Pandemic COVID-19, especially for having online learning. The purpose of this study was to examine students' perceptions toward the use of Quizizz as an online learning media in English courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of the study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study were 89 Information Systems students of STMIK Jayanusa. The data was collected through a questionnaire on Google Forms and they were analyzed by using the Likert Scale. The study revealed that students responded to Quizizz use positively; they strongly agreed about the use of Quizizz in distance learning

The purpose of this study is to find out the strategies applied at SD Muhammadiyah 10 Balongbendo in learning during the covid 19 pandemic. This scientific work examines various aspects, including the history, strategies, challenges and facilities contained in SD Muhammadiyah 10 Balongbendo. The learning strategy that can be reached in the world of education is online learning. Online learning is carried out remotely, but equipped with various types of applications that support it. The purpose of the study was to obtain an overview of the implementation of learning during the Covid-19 pandemic along with the strategies implemented at SD Muhammadiyah 10 Balongbendo as an effort to monitor and identify learning that is currently running even though the situation has not been able to support it optimally. The subjects of this study were students of SD Muhammadiyah 10 Balongbendo who carried out an online learning program. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Data were collected by direct interviews which took place in the principal's office of SD Muhammadiyah 10 Balongbendo. The results of this study are (1) the form of strategies carried out during the pandemic, (2) online learning that continues to run (3) Cooperation between educators and parents in the distance learning process. The conclusion in this study is that the teacher's learning strategy has been implemented using several kinds of learning media that have been applied to realize the appropriate learning objectives.

Mining education, including ESL teaching had to undergo a sudden switch to the distance learning mode in spring 2020 due to COVID-19. The article analyses the challenges that most of teachers had to face and justifies the term “extreme learning” in connection with a sudden shift to a distance mode in higher education world-wide. The analytical data is provided to prove the point and as an effort to evaluate the effectiveness of extreme online learning. Current situation in Russian mining universities can be compared with the results of transition to emergency online format in the United States, UNM University. The necessity for further assessment is underlined in connection with the analysis of prerequisites, needs, and processes rather than the results.
