The present article deals with the fisheries development of three important Ox-Bow Lakes of Ballia district of eastern Uttar Pradesh in relation to physico-chemical and biological conditions. The results were found conducive for Fisheries development. The results indicate clearly that potential fish yield is not being realized from the lakes and there is immense scope for increase in Fish production.

A study was conducted to evaluate the different guava cultivars for their physico-chemical composition and organoleptic assessment during the year 2012-2013. Results of study indicated that Gorakh Bilas Pasand cultivar proved to be superior on the basis of physical characters (Length-7.64 cm, Breadth-7.79 cm , Weight-240.60 g, Number of seeds per fruit-251 etc.) followed by Lucknow-49. However, Lucknow-49 was found noteworthy in respect of chemical composition (TSS-13.00 oBrix, Acidity-0.50%, pH-5.86, Vitamin C-300.36 mg/100g etc). In organoleptic assessment, it was found that ‘liked very much’ rating was provided by consumer to Lucknow-49. On the basis of overall findings, it was concluded that ‘Lucknow-49’ was superior in most of characters studied and might be one of the promising cultivars for quality fruits under eastern Uttar Pradesh conditions.

Nutrients deficiency is one of the major challenges facing our country. Fishes are good source of aquatic food that provides nutrients and gives nourishment to the human`s body and promotes growth. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of monogenean ectoparasites on fresh water cat fishes of river Gomti at district Sultanpur (U.P.), in a bid to suggesting ways of curbing them. Total 720 fishes consisting of 180 Magur (Clarias), 180 Singhi (Heteropneustes), 180 Parhin (Wallago), and 180 Tengar (Mystus) were screened using standard parasitological procedures. Higher infestation was recorded in Parhin (Wallago) and lower infestation recorded in Singhi (Heteropneustes). Larger fishes recorded higher infestation than smaller ones. Therefore, routine check of physico-chemical qualities and monitoring of parasitic status of fish in river Gomti would reduce the mortality and loss in fish production.

In the present paper 10 Cyanophycean algae belonging 10 genera have been described from eastern U.P. The genera described are: Chroococcus, Microcystis, Aphanothece, Arthrospira, Spirulina, Lyngbya, Anabaena, Rivularia, and Gloeotrichia.
