The purpose of this paper is to analyse the internal consistency of an Educational Value Scale (EVS) to be used to assess individuals’ subjective perception of an educational app ability to support relevant learning in green outdoor settings. In this work, the EVS is presented as a scale with 12 items and data is aggregated and analysed to contribute to an empirical validation of the educational value construct. In this study, the analysis focuses a scale desirable psychometric property, the reliability, which is analysed through a robust Cronbach’s α estimation. Data for analysis is collected from a total of 924 responses to a questionnaire from students (of all school levels) and their teachers, after using the EduPARK app during a one-year face-to-face survey. Results reveal that the scale has internal consistency for teachers and older students (2nd, 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary teaching students). This study is an initial effort to validate an EVS, which can be helpful to researchers developing and accessing educational apps and to educators selecting educational apps to integrate in their teaching practices.

BACKGROUND Dealing with stress is of central importance. Lately, smartphone applications (apps) are deployed in stress interventions as they offer maximal flexibility for users. First results of experimental studies show that anti-stress apps effect subjective perception of stress positively (Ly et al., 2014). However, current literature lacks studies on physiological stress reactions (e.g., cortisol), although they are of special interest to health issues. OBJECTIVE Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of an anti-stress app in chronic and acute stress reduction on a physiological (cortisol) and psychological level (subjective perception of stress) in comparison to a face-to-face and a control group in a pre-post design, for the first time. METHODS Sixty-two participants took part in the pretesting procedure (drop-out of 53 %). Based on age, gender, physical activity and subjectively perceived acute stress due to the Trier Social Stress Test for groups (TSST-G; von Dawans et al., 2011) as well as based on subjectively chronic stress assessed during the pretest, participants were parallelized in three groups (anti-stress-app: n = 10, face-to-face: n = 11, control group: n = 9). RESULTS After six weeks of the cognitive-based resource-oriented intervention, participants were exposed to the TSST-G for post testing. Results did not show a change of cortisol secretion or cognitive appraisal of the acute stressor. Further, no changes were detected in the chronic physiological stress reaction. Objectives This study aimed to explore perspectives about hypertension from patients who do not take anti-hypertensive medications. Factors that shape their perspectives as well as patients’ expectations were also canvassed. Method Individual, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 30 people (≥45 years old) living in rural villages, diagnosed with hypertension, who had not taken any anti-hypertensive medications for at least one year. Interviews were audiotaped, transcribed verbatim and thematically analysed. Results Four themes emerged: (1) alternative medicines for managing high blood pressure; (2) accessing health care services; (3) the need for anti-hypertensive medications; and (4) existing support and patients’ expectations. Reluctance to take anti-hypertensive medications was influenced by patients’ beliefs in personal health threats and the effectiveness of anti-hypertensive medications, high self-efficacy for taking alternative medicines, the lack of recommendation regarding hypertension treatment, and barriers to accessing supplies of medicines. Conclusion Despite their awareness of being diagnosed with hypertension, patients undervalued visiting a health professional to control their high blood pressure. Health strategies need to consider patients’ beliefs, concerns and expectations. Providing an accessible, affordable and adequate supply of hypertension medication is also key to any programs designed to optimise hypertension management.

This study analyzes the Children's Embedded Figures Test by examining its internal consistency, test-retest reliability, the order of difficulty of the items, and the change of scores with age. Among the sample 337 boys and 287 girls who were between the ages of 6 and 11 years and in the first five grades of primary school scores increased significantly. The test presented moderate internal consistency (.86), and the test-retest reliability after one year was .63. The order of difficulty of the items did not coincide with the order proposed by the test's authors and varied from grade to grade, i.e., in the Tent series Item 4 and in the House series Item 5 were among the most difficult.

Our purpose in this study was to develop a scale to measure preference for online social interaction (POSI). The psychometric properties of the POSI Scale were tested with 2 separate samples of Chinese teenagers (age 13–18 years). The responses of the first group (n = 352) were used to explore the factor structure of the scale. The responses of the second group (n = 593) were used to test construct validity and consistency reliability of the POSI Scale. The results indicated that (a) the POSI Scale consists of three dimensions: online social interaction frequency, online social interaction propensity, and perception of superiority of online social interaction compared to face-to-face social interaction; and (b) the POSI Scale has good structural validity and internal consistency and reliability, and is a reliable and valid instrument for measurement of adolescents' preference for online social interaction, especially in the context of Chinese teenagers.

The descriptive  research examines the effects of educational media on children’s language development . It aims to answer the following questions; a) To what extend does the educational media influences the children’s language development? b)  Do parents interact with their children during co-viewing ? Since many of the children in this era are exposed to educational media programs/apps/ games at a very young age, it is important for the researcher to find out the extend educational media influences children’s language development and  do parents co-view and interact with the children.  Five parents with children from age one year of age to pre-school were interviewed face to face. The research is carried out at Seberang Perai Urban Area targeting parents who send their children to middle income kindergartens. Face to face interviews were carried out to find out to what extend educational media  influences on children’s language development and to find out whether parents co-view and interact with their children. Upon completion of the data collection , the results will be used to determine the positive and negative part of educational media on children’s language development and how parents co-view and interactions can  benefit them.

Introdução: Investigamos as características dos processos formativos de três docentes e os motivos subjacentes à sua mobilização como professores(as) que se preocupam em pesquisar. Objetivo: O objetivo de nossa investigação é compreender as idiossincrasias desses(as) professores(as)-pesquisadores(as), que investigam suas próprias práticas educativas na educação básica, na área da educação física na cidade de Fortaleza e na região metropolitana. Métodos: O nosso estudo é fundamentado em uma pesquisa qualitativa com a colaboração de professores(as) de educação física de escolas públicas da rede estadual de educação básica de Fortaleza. A pesquisa colaborativa foi realizada com uma professora e dois professores ao longo de um ano e meio. Resultados: Temos como principal resultado da pesquisa, o engajamento efetivo dos(as) professores(as) com as suas práticas educacionais. Portanto, a responsabilidade com os processos de ensino está associada aos modos de investigação realizados pelos(as) docentes. Conclusão: Consideramos que o envolvimento com projetos e também com grupos de estudos das universidades, tanto durante a graduação quanto na pós-graduação, tornam o trabalho de cada professor(a) diferenciado em termos (auto)formativos. ABSTRACT. School physical education teachers-researchers: idiosyncrasies and support to teacher educa¬tion in Fortaleza’s (Brazil) metropolitan region. Background: We have investigated the characteristics of the educative processes of three teachers and the reasons underpinned by their mobilization as teachers who care about researching. Objective: The objective of our investigation is to understand the idiosyncrasies of these teachers, who investigate their own educational practices in basic education in the area of physical education in the city of Fortaleza and in the metropolitan region. Methods: Our study is based on qualitative research with the collaboration of physical education teachers from public schools of the State basic education network at Fortaleza. The collaborative research was carried out with one female teacher and two male teachers over one year and a half. Results: The main result of the research is the effective engagement of teachers with their educational practices. Therefore, responsibility for teaching processes is associated with the modes of research carried out by the teachers. Conclusion: We consider that the involvement with projects and also within academic groups at universities, both during undergraduate and postgraduate courses, differentiate the work of each teacher in (self) educative terms.

Worldwide, tobacco is one of the leading causes of disability and death. Over a million of pounds of toxic chemicals are released by tobacco products. This study aims to explore the effects of tobacco toxicants on human health and environmental pollution. Four districts (Dhaka, Kushtia, Chattogram and Rangpur) were selected where most of the tobacco product grown. Total 468 respondents were interviewed face-to-face using structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge about toxicant content in tobacco and health and environmental hazards of tobacco use. Survey results revealed that about 44.4% respondents used smoking tobacco products and 38.5% used smokeless tobacco, while only 17.1% used both. About two third (74.3%) of smoking tobacco users started smoking when they were between 15 to 24 years old and majority (61.6%) of smokeless tobacco users started tobacco when they were between 30 to 35 years above. Tobacco product has large impacts on health of young smokers. Smokers are suffering from various acute and chronic diseases. Among the respondents, 38% indicated that they were suffering from hypertension. The second most affected disease was COPD/Asthma (31.6%), while cancer was the least suffering disease (0.4%). Majority of the respondents were not aware about the presence of toxicants (i.e. nicotine, tar and metals) in tobacco products. However, 85.1% tobacco users had an idea about environmental pollution. There is a lack of knowledge among the survey respondents about toxicants in tobacco products that are linked to health hazards and environmental pollution. What do library workers want from professional conferences? This question was the subject of a nationwide online survey administered to a randomly selected audience of library workers. Survey results showed that most library workers attend conferences, and their preferences were for face-to-face, topical events. The primary consideration for event attendance according those responding to the survey was the content presented. Issues of cost were also highly important to respondents, although funding for professional development was reported to be generally stable or even increasing. Of lesser interest to potential conference attendees were issues of location, vendor interaction, or the opportunity to perform committee work. Some future trends predicted include a growing acceptance of virtual events, a declining importance on location-based events like state library association conferences, and a need to review the roles of vendors and exhibitors in conferences.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the challenges and solutions encountered by Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs currently serving older adults seeking a GED credential in states where this is the only high school equivalency option available. The following questions guided this research: (1) what are the perceived characteristics and needs of older students seeking a high school equivalency diploma?; (2) how do GED programs promote the success of their older students?; and (3) what are the future service and planning needs of these GED programs with regard to this population? To address these questions, a series of 55 one-on-one, semi-structured interviews with experts across 32 GED-only states was carried out. Findings revealed a consistent, shared experience in terms of overall attitudes and challenges among these experts, as well as a variety of innovative practices and recommendations for assisting older learners.
