Targeting at students randomly selected across all departments and all years at one university located in northern Taiwan, this research based on hierarchical regression analysis aims to investigate whether or not global warming awareness education exerts a positive effect on research participants’ energy-saving cognition and attitude. the results indicate that the 8 hypotheses proposed are all supported. Firstly, green education courses and global warming awareness videos have significantly positive impact on participants’ cognition and attitude as compare to their peers who did not take the courses or view the videos. Secondly, the participants’ scientific literacy positively influences their energy-saving cognition, which in turn positively impacts on energy-saving attitude. Furthermore, energy-saving cognition plays a completely intermediate role between scientific literacy and energy-saving attitude. Results mentioned conclude the contributions of this research.

The influencing factors of the low-carbon consumption behavior of urban residents have become popular. This paper explored the factors of consumers’ low-carbon behavior through a questionnaire survey. Using Hangzhou as a case study city, which yields 786 valid responses, the results indicated that urban consumers generally had a high perception of low-carbon behavior. At the same time, low-carbon cognition and low-carbon intention had a positive impact on residents’ low-carbon behavior. In particular, the level of awareness of global warming adjusted residents’ understanding of low-carbon behavior. From a policy point of view, this research contributes to insights into the promotion of guiding residents’ low-carbon behavior and improving the response to global warming.

Energy conservation or energy saving is one of the most important methods for reducing CO2 emissions, which is known to be associated with global warming. Although development of renewable energy sources such as solar or wind energy is necessary, we must first pay attention to the fact that enormous amounts of energy are consumed uselessly at present. Energy saving should therefore be one of the first problems to be tackled. It may not only bring reductions in CO2 emission, but also may lead to savings in expenditure on energy. This paper introduces some of the initiatives taking place in Japan aimed at energy conservation.

Aiming at the issues of global warming and climate change, this research proposed three kinds of models to evaluate the effect of idling stops, expressed as the idling stop time, on red light at signalized intersection under random arrival of vehicles. The first one evaluates the maximum idling stop time, whereas the second one focuses on the idling stop time conditioned by an acceptable remaining red time. The third one is then used to estimate the increment of the idling stop time as the driver’s willingness for idling stop is raised, i.e. the acceptable remaining red time drops. The results of a case study show that the idling stops will really help to improve the energy saving and carbon reduction due to the occurrence of a large amount of idling stop time. The maximum IST can reach 42,938 hrs during the off-peak period on holidays in a year. Although the increment of the idling stop time seems insignificant by the case, it would become remarkable and significant when the evaluation base is extended to all approaches, and all intersections.

In recent years, opera companies throughout the United Kingdom have begun to provide educational programs for children that offer opportunities for “apprenticeship” training in the context of professional opera productions, alongside formal choral musicianship training. This article outlines a qualitative case study of a recently established children’s opera chorus program located in a northern England city, in which I investigated the extent to which the children became engaged with opera as a genre through their participation in the program. This study also considers the extent to which such programs affected children’s emerging cultural identities and musical preferences in an acculturative sense. Findings suggested that the authenticity and situatedness of the learning experience had a positive impact on the children’s engagement, with those that had participated in main-stage productions being most likely to state that they wished to pursue opera or musical theatre as a career in later life.

Lost Glory: India’s Capitalism Story describes India’s industrialization experiences. Questions about long-term industry and productivity evolution, and their impact on economic growth, lie at the heart of discourses of capitalism. The book is based on detailed empirical analyses of India’s industrialization over a period of almost seven decades, and a case study of Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automobile manufacturer. The deeply nuanced depiction of the historical political economy that has affected India’s industrialization is a unique feature. This history will enlighten everyone interested in India. The presentation takes readers on a definitive evidence-based survey of India’s industrial landscape. It includes a detailed historical description of the intellectual origins of India’s modern industrialization, anchored in a privileged view of economic policymaking. Grounded in historical and political analyses, the facts derived on India’s long-term economic performance are used to set the record straight. It is unsparing in its assessments where the evidence warrants such conclusions. Its findings will transform debate, and set the agenda for thoughtfully assessing the future course of India’s prosperity. The author overturns the assumptions that India’s much-vaunted private sector firms only engender positive outcomes, finding State-sector firms to have become efficient, and the molecular sector to be as effective overall, while also challenging the notion that privatization is necessary for progress. Conversely, it is found that competition policy innovations to have had positive impact. Practical suggestions are provided and three fundamental reforms, one administrative, one structural, and one behavioral, necessary to regenerate high output, are advocated.

AbstractOver the last decades, Benefit Corporations arouse as a new corporate structure, alternative to traditional ones and pointing to offer a new approach to the management of business and sustainability issues. These companies' activities are statutory aimed at bridging for-profit and no-profit activities; thus, they intentionally and statutory pursue economic purposes together with social and environmental ones, to create a positive impact on economy, society and environment. Even though, Italian and other national laws set some specific disclosure duties for Benefit Corporations, especially in terms of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues, the literature still calls for further research on the topic. Therefore, this paper is aimed at contributing to bridge this gap, investigating the way Italian Benefit Corporations approach ESG disclosure. To this end, an exploratory analysis has been conducted, implementing a qualitative method, based on a multiple case study strategy. Even though the descriptive nature of the study, the achieved findings pointed out that the Benefit Corporation structure not necessarily implies a better approach to ESG.
