Mold and Casting Table Maintenance Management System at Aluar: A Key to Quality Billets and Saving Costs

It is well known that mold and casting table maintenance has a direct impact on the internal quality and surface quality of billets. In this paper, the evolution of the main key performance indicators (KPIs) associated with the main consumables of the Wagstaff Air slip billet casting technology is shown, such as molds, casting rings, transition plates and thimbles. The strategies taken to preserve a high standard of quality whilst monitoring the associated costs, are discussed. An automated Mold and Casting Table Maintenance Management system has been developed in house to make available the relevant information from the casting table servicing at the casting pit and at the mold room. A case study is described where this tool allowed us to reduce costs, keeping a high quality standard of the casting table maintenance, ensuring the internal quality of the final product.

At least since Akerlof (1970), asymmetric information in the case of experience goods has been a central issue in the economic literature. This paper studies regulation in markets where the quality of the experience good is never completely verifiable by consumers even after purchase. In the proposed model firms can decide the quality of the good: always producing a high quality good creates a positive externality in the market, but it causes an incentive to the firms to deviate and produce low quality goods. The main policy instrument for the government, in order to maximize Social Welfare, is to fix a minimum quality standard, but imposing a too high standard might, in some cases, lower the average quality of the good in the market.

Abstract More and more, people are looking to build and live in different ways. They want houses with a high standard of living and reasonable production and maintenance costs. However, they also want to build a way that does not adversely affect their quality of life. Currently, the using of modern methods of construction (MMC) expands consistently year on year. MMC include prefabricated products made in the factory and also new methods of building that are site-based and they are regarded as a means of achieving higher quality, reducing time spent onsite, increasing safety and overcoming skills shortages in the industry. Aim of this paper is to analyze and compare, trough case study, technical, cost and technological parameters of house built by modern method of construction (from insulating concrete formwork) and by traditional method (from brick system). The subject of case study is house modeled in two variants of insulating concrete formwork and a variant bricks and ceiling system. In conclusion, there is selected optimal method and system for house construction through multicriteria optimization.

This case study reviews the process that the City of Naperville Information Technology Department undertook to implement a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for the city’s Department of Public Utilities–Water. A CMMS is a software system for managing infrastructure with tools for creating and tracking maintenance activities associated with physical assets. Typical requirements for a CMMS include the ability to handle requests for service, process work orders, plan preventive maintenance, provide for tests and inspections, and enable ad hoc searching and reporting. The software that the Naperville Water Utility chose for a CMMS was selected for its tight integration with its Geographic Information System (GIS), the computerized mapping database that contained a spatial model of the department’s water distribution and wastewater collection assets. Many of the challenges that the IT Department had in implementing the CMMS related to issues with the GIS data. In addition, several of the city’s ?nancial systems, such as accounting, utility billing, customer information systems, and inventory required integration with the CMMS. The case study will cover the complexities of integration with these disparate data sources that have both a technical and organizational basis. Finally, as with all implementations of software systems, the element of organizational change needed to be addressed. For that reason, business process mapping and re-engineering practices were employed to support the deployment of the software.

Quality has become an increasingly important and critical success factor at higher education institutions, particularly universities. Numerous discussions have been held about education quality in the context of sustainable development. However, the quality of that education strongly depends on the overall quality of the management system which operates at schools. The principal aim of this article is to present the approaches to the quality management systems’ development and their assessment at universities, and share some lessons learned from this area of research. Some possibilities of the ISO 9001 standard’s implementation, as well as the application of excellence models as a response to community demands, will be discussed, especially in the context of the recently-introduced Act No. 111/1998 Coll on Higher Education Institutions, which requires quality assurance and quality evaluation. A case study from The VSB-Technical University of Ostrava shows approaches, results and effects of the quality management system implementation.

Abstract Background: Systematic Reviews (SR), studies of studies, use a formal process to evaluate the quality of scientific literature and determine ensuing effectiveness from qualifying articles to establish consensus findings around a hypothesis. Their value is increasing as the conduct and publication of research and evaluation has expanded and the process of identifying key insights becomes more time consuming. Text analytics and Machine Learning (ML) techniques may help overcome this problem of scale while still maintaining the level of rigor expected of SRs.Methods: In this article, we discuss an approach that uses existing examples of SRs to build and test a method for assisting the SR title and abstract pre-screening by reducing the initial pool of potential articles down to articles that meet inclusion criteria. Our approach differs from previous approaches to using ML as a SR tool in that it incorporates ML configurations guided by previously conducted SRs, and human confirmation on ML predictions of relevant articles during multiple iterative reviews on smaller tranches of citations. We applied the tailored method to a new SR review effort to validate performance. Results: the case study test of the approach proved a sensitivity (recall) in finding relevant articles during down selection that may rival many traditional processes. Conclusions: We believe this iterative method can help overcome bias in initial ML model training by having humans reinforce ML models with new and relevant information, and is an applied step towards transfer learning for ML in SR.

Batik industry is one of the industries that produces wastewater which contains harmful chemicals. In order to maintain the quality of the environment, it is necessary to have a wastewater management system. The region which has conducted the comunal waste management system is Kampoeng Batik Laweyan. However, this effort of waste management system has not optimal yet. The purpose of this paper is to analyze wastewater management system in Kampoeng Batik Laweyan. The approach of this paper is a quantitative approach, using mix-metode. The analysis of the wastewater management system has been done by assesing 4 aspects such as technical aspect, managerial aspect, economic aspect, and environmental aspect. The wastewater management system has provided good results in technical dan managerial aspects only. For the economic and the environment aspects need to be upgraded since they have not shown any important improvements. Through this paper it is expected to create a substantial improvement in economic and environmental aspects.Keyword: Batik waste, Laweyan, management, wastewater, WWTP.

Development of the system of ensuring quality in higher education of Ukraine grounded the creation of such management subject as a guarantor of the educational program. However, a formal understanding of the role and uncertainty of the guarantor’s status in the contemporary area of managing higher education institutions became the widespread consequence of those innovations. Considering the stated above, various models of managing the quality of educational programs with the help of the guarantor have been developed in the research, and conditions for efficient application of such models in Ukrainian universities have been grounded. The research is based on the application of the strategic analysis method GAP for identifying issues and features of organizing management in systems of internal quality assurance in universities, and methods of modeling and graphical analysis method for creating alternative management systems in educational programs with and without such professional educational-scientific structural subdivisions as departments. As a result, the developed models include the rational organization of management of educational programs under the conditions of centralized and decentralized systems of internal educational quality assurance provision. For instance, it could create favorable conditions for decreasing bureaucracy and repetition of functions in the management system of universities and lead to the realization of the individual potential of guarantors as managers-experts in educational programs. Buying and selling transactions using internet media has advantages related to time and costs. However, buyers often feel difficult when accessing online websites. There are several types of errors that are experienced by buyers when using online buying and selling site services. It is including mistakes in selecting display menus, difficulties in finding items needed because there are too many choices available, errors in interpreting menus used, and sometimes difficulties in knowing product specifications because no relevant information is available on the site. In this study, we discuss the application of the HTA and SHERPA method to assess one of the online buying and selling sites currently used by Indonesian people, namely B.com. There are 100 respondents participated in this study. The study methods are including error identification, analyzing the error using SHERPA, and evaluating the website design. The result of the study provides some recommendation to the online buyer such as ensuring the quality of internet network, filling the data carefully, and confirming the purpose and nominal value of the transaction before it sent to the seller.
