Background: Despite being strategic, state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have failed to fulfil their mandate. Supply chain performance is ineffective largely because of weak organisational culture.Objectives: To explore the extent to which organisational cultural factors have influenced the supply chain performance of SOEs, review the literature; effectiveness of attaining financial targets, customer satisfaction, internal business processes, learning and growth; time orientation on the supply chain metric of delivery. The supply chain metric of flexibility; profitability on cost reduction; ‘no ownership’ culture on decision-making; and the level of customer satisfaction.Method: A mixed-method was used. The population comprised managers, employees and clients of eight selected SOEs. Judgmental, random and convenience sampling were employed. Questionnaires and interviews were the research instruments and quantitative and qualitative analyses were conducted. Findings are presented thematically, in line with the research questions.Results: SOEs were not meeting financial targets, not satisfying customers, poor internal business processes not attaining learning and growth targets. Organisational cultural variables were weak; affecting flexibility, no timely delivery of goods and services. Also influenced the behaviour of human resources and an indirect effect on customer satisfaction, cost-saving and profitability in the SOEs.Conclusion: The SOEs failed to meet financial, customer, learning and growth targets. The internal business processes were not effective. The culture did not promote efficiency. The study recommends that commitment of leadership on human behaviour is necessary for effective supply chain performance and strategy implementation. Constant environmental scanning, strategic alliances, rationalisation of remuneration and sound corporate governance are essential.

Passion fruit syrup is one of a typical and famous fruit as the souvenir in the form of processed products from North Sumatra Province, especially Medan City. Nowadays, the sustainability of processed products of passion fruit syrup is facing an increasingly competitive market. It is therefore necessary to measure the performance of a superior supply chain supported by the procurement of raw materials that are managed effectively and efficiently. Supply chain performance is an indicator of the success of agroindustry companies in running their business processes. Performance measurement of agroindustry supply chain is needed to control and to determine the performance position of agroindustry produced. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the conditions of the supply chain of passion fruit syrup agroindustry and to measure the supply chain performance of passion fruit syrup agroindustry in North Sumatra Province. The method for analyzing the conditions of the supply chain of passion fruit syrup agroindustry used a long-term relationship approach. To measure the performance of the agro-industry supply chain, the Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR) and AHP approach were used. The results showed that the supply chain performance of passion fruit syrup agroindustry in North Sumatra Province was 76.90% and categorized medium indicating that coordination among actors in the supply chain has not been well established

Global competition has forces companies to continuously innovate by frequently asses and improve their supply chain processes, flexibility and fast delivery as effectiveness required in each supply chain processes. This is to ensure cost efficiency, faster delivery and in the end would lead to customer satisfaction and perform better than competitors. To be able to perform better among competitors and improving firms supply chain performance, firms need the talents who able to manage global resources effectively and understand culture, suppliers/ workers attitude and comply with global regulations. Success implementation of global supply chain has linked with talents capability to maximize manage global resources. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the competency needed of global supply chain managers to support international business expansion.

Purpose Pharmaceutical industry involves highly specialized business processes where strong research and development focus along with market differentiation and localization are the deciders of success. This has led to evolution of segments and complexities in supply chain. This paper aims to focus on segmental differences in supply chain performance of Indian Pharmaceutical firms. Design/methodology/approach This paper measures supply chain performance of select segmental players of the pharmaceutical industry using financial metrics and supply chain operations reference (SCOR) key performance indicators through a five-year timeline. The best performance results are compared across the segments to identify unique performance features, if any. The sample results are validated through hypothesis testing methodology. Findings This paper has evidenced that the innovators segment is performing better in cash-to-cash cycle time and supply chain working capital productivity, whereas generics segment is doing better in distribution cost efficiency and total cost to serve aspects. Research limitations/implications The paper is based on historical financial data of firms and measures the firm focused supply chain performance. The results may not be generalized in a global context but serve as a motivator for other researchers to take similar studies. The paper may further be analyzed with primary data of the firms to understand the segmental difference in customer focus supply chain performance measures. Practical implications This paper has brought out important segmental supply chain performance features of the Indian pharmaceutical firms and identified segment-specific problems by integrating SCOR KPIs and financial metrics. Originality/value This paper has integrated both SCOR KPIs and financial metrics to provide unique insights on segmental differences in the performance behavior of pharmaceutical supply chain.

Supply chain dynamics are seen as important components that directly affect supply chain performance, business processes, management functions, and efficiency for businesses. Every company in the supply chain needs other businesses to achieve the desired level of supply accurately, with the least cost and in an effective manner. Therefore, supply chain dynamics are seen as important components in terms of increasing competitiveness, increasing business performance, avoiding problems in workflows, and ensuring customer satisfaction, and also play critical roles in the provision of necessary information, materials, and services and improvement of process management. Also, capacity and capacity development strategies have vital importance, and firms need to apply right strategies in order to achieve success.In this study, it is aimed to rank the confusion in the supply chain dynamics and select the most ideal capacity strategy for food establishments with 10 or more employees operating in Giresun province during the COVID-19 process via SWARA and WASPAS methods.

PurposeSupply chain analytics with big data capability are now growing to the next frontier in transforming the supply chain. However, very few studies have identified its different dimensions and overall effects on supply chain performance measures and customer satisfaction. The aim of this paper to design the data-driven supply chain model to evaluate the impact on supply chain performance and customer satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachThis research uses the resource-based view, emerging literature on big data, supply chain performance measures and customer satisfaction theory to develop the big data-driven supply chain (BDDSC) model. The model tested using questionnaire data collected from supply chain managers and supply chain analysts. To prove the research model, the study uses the structural equation modeling technique.FindingsThe results of the study identify the supply chain performance measures (integration, innovation, flexibility, efficiency, quality and market performance) and customer satisfaction (cost, flexibility, quality and delivery) positively associated with the BDDSC model.Originality/valueThis paper fills the significant gap in the BDDSC on the different dimensions of supply chain performance measures and their impacts on customer satisfaction.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to clarify the different roles of intra- and inter-organizational information and communication technology (ICT) in improving supply chain performance. It proposes different mechanisms to explain how intra- and inter-organizational ICT interact with supply chain integration, and contribute to supply chain performance. The main research question is: What are the distinctive roles of inter-organizational ICT and intra-organizational ICT in improving supply chain performance? Design/methodology/approach – The paper builds on original survey data of 320 Chinese manufacturing firms gathered in China. Findings – The paper shows that inter-organizational ICT has a positive direct relationship with supply chain performance and this relationship is mediated by supply chain integration. Intra-organizational ICT has no direct relationship with supply chain performance. However, intra-organizational ICT moderates the effect of the supply chain integration on supply chain performance. Research limitations/implications – The paper argues that more research into the specific roles and interaction of ICT with business processes is needed in order to better understand its role in improving supply chain performance. Practical implications – For managers the findings show that inter- and intra-organizational ICT play a different role in the improvement of supply chain performance: the first leading to more supply chain integration, which in turn improves performance, while the second needs additional investment in integrative practices to help improve supply chain performance. Originality/value – This paper adds to the debate on the role of ICT in improving supply chain performance and shows that a detailed investigation into underlying mechanisms, and the interaction of ICT with other business processes is valuable.

With the complexity of organizations increasing, it is becoming vitally important that organizations understand how knowledge is created and shared around their core business processes. However, many organizations deploy technology without due consideration for how their employees access, create and share information and knowledge. This chapter explores the subject empirically through the study of how employees work with information and knowledge around a core business function – in this case a supply chain process. In order to do this the organization needs to be viewed for a network perspective as it relates to specific business processes. Viewing the organization in this way enabled the author to see how employee’s preferred knowledge and information transfer mechanisms varied across the core process. In some cases the identified transfer mechanisms where at odds with the prescribed organization wide mechanisms. However, when the organization considered the employee’s preferred transfer mechanisms as part of an overall process improvement, the E2E supply chain performance was seen to improve significantly.

PurposeThe main aim of the study is to develop a structural framework that includes e-business processes and sustainability-oriented enablers to improve supply chain performance.Design/methodology/approachTo improve supply chain performance, the present study conducts a detailed literature review to explore the key enablers based on e-business processes and sustainability aspects of various recognized databases. An automotive case organization is chosen to conduct a case study for developing the structural framework. The structural framework is developed by adopting an interpretive structural modeling approach. Furthermore, the fuzzy-MICMAC approach is applied to compute the driving and the dependence power of each selected enabler.FindingsThis study develops a structural framework that indicates the improved supply chain performance is achieved by “development of supply chain web system,” “strong customer relationship management,” and “enhancement in control over cost quality and sustainability” as the most critical enablers.Research limitations/implicationsThe enablers for the development of framework are obtained through the inputs of an expert panel. However, the researchers may conduct large scale surveys to strengthen the input components of the framework.Originality/valueThis is one of the unique studies that list down a set of 27 most critical e-business processes and sustainability based enablers to improve supply chain performance.

As a requirement of competitiveness, businesses procure those goods and services which are beyond their own fields of activity from specialized businesses. Based on this requirement, examination of the effect of outsourcing, one of the crucial instruments for businesses in gaining competitive advantage, on sustainable supply chain performance and business performance, is of importance in terms of bringing a point of view on the dimensions of the ongoing competition in sectoral sense and enabling the businesses to assess their own structures. In this context, the effect of outsourcing by businesses operating in food industry in the province of Konya on sustainable supply chain performance and business performance was examined in this study. Structural equation modeling was utilized to analyze the correlation between the variables. While no statistically significant correlation could be determined between outsourcing and sustainable supply chain perforrmance, it was found out that a statistically significant correlation existed between sustainable supply chain performance and business performance as well as between the outsourcing and business performance.
