In an information-based society, where both the lack and the excess of this resource may represent exclusion factors, to become information literate proves essential. That is, one must know how to identify the informational need, evaluate and use the information found. In the process, information design may have an important role because it deals directly with the organization and presentation of information. Given this association, this article aims to identify the contribution of information design for information literacy. Thus, the concept of information literacy is revised as well as its levels and dimensions. Later, we seek to understand the different information design attributions and how they are related to the development of information literacy, considering the components of this process: access, evaluation and use. To that, a literature research was performed, followed by the systematization of a possible relationship between these two fields, presented as a diagram. At the end, it is concluded that information design can contribute to information literacy as it minimally allows efficient and effective access through clear information recognition, as well as its proper structuring and organization; collaborates to the correct understanding of the information, avoiding noises in the message and nonconformities in the principles of the information design; leads to the proper application of information, allowing its correct learning and communication.

This paper describes a design of fast recognition of road information based on mobile terminal. Firstly, based on the HOG algorithm, we study and verify the effects of different parameters on the performance of the algorithm. Secondly, we test 800 images randomly selected from the INRIA pedestrian dataset to obtain the optimal parameters for the mobile terminal and the proportion of video resolution and detection window. Then, under the same test conditions, the time overheads of the SVMLight and the LibSVM are recorded and SVMLight training time is significantly less than LibSVM. Thirdly, we design and implement a real-time road information recognition and warning system on the Windows platform and Android platform. Features include real-time pedestrians detection, voice warning, and road signs recognition. When the vehicle speed is less than 30 km/h, the video resolution is less than 720 × 576 and the detection window/image ratio is less than 1 : 50; the system can guarantee low delay and high recognition rate (97.2%).

The article analyzes the principles underlying the visual perception of information and advertising design. Subjective and objective factors that affect such perception are highlighted. A classification of information design objects by speed of information perception is proposed. Indicators are identified based on which criteria for evaluating the composition and effectiveness of advertisement information layout have been developed, which are information recognition and ordering. An algorithm is suggested for evaluating the composition and effectiveness of informational message layout depending on expected perceptual speed. It is expected that the layout evaluation algorithms and principles developed will enable comparative assessment of layouts with various arrangements of elements to be performed.

This book aims to shed light on core questions relating to language and society, language and conflict, and language and politics, in relation to a changing Middle East. While the book focuses on Arabic, it goes way beyond a purely linguistic analysis by bringing to the fore a set of pressing questions about the relationship between Arabic and society. For example, it touches on the development of language policy via an examination of administrative mandates (top-down) in contrast to grassroots initiatives (bottom-up); the deeper layers of the linguistic landscape that highlight the connection between politics, conflict, identity, road signs and street names; Arabic studies and Arabic identity and the myriad ways countries deal simultaneously with globalisation while also seeking to strengthen local and national identity, and more.
