Use of open data to analyze the publication of articles in scientific events

Objective. This article has analyzed the publications of articles in scientific events using open data from the Lattes Platform. Design/Methodology/Approach. The LattesDataXplorer tool was used to extract curricular data from the Lattes Platform. The selection stage consisted of verifying which curricula had works published in scientific events. In the treatment stage, a characterization of the articles was carried out, thus allowing the analysis of articles published in scientific events. Results/Discussion. It was possible to carry out some characterizations such as temporal analysis, analysis by a large area of expertise, and which articles use persistent identifiers. The temporal analysis made it possible to verify how many articles were published per year. Through the analysis by a large area of action, the individuals with the highest and lowest rate of publication in annals of events were identified. Approximately 3% of articles report the persistent identifier (DOI). Conclusions. The peak of publications is in 2011, afterwards, there was a significant drop. Individuals from Health Sciences have a higher rate of publication in event proceedings, while individuals from the Exact and Earth Sciences have a lower volume of publications. Only 30,936 of the articles have a persistent identifier, but individuals from the Exact and Earth Sciences (30.68%) are the ones who use persistent identifiers the most. Originality/Value. From data extracted from the Lattes Platform, the results of original research that seeks to characterize Brazilian scientific production utilizing events are presented.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a functional brain imaging technique with high temporal resolution compared with techniques that rely on metabolic coupling. MEG has an important role in traumatic brain injury (TBI) research, especially in mild TBI, which may not have detectable features in conventional, anatomical imaging techniques. This review addresses the original research articles to date that have reported on the use of MEG in TBI. Specifically, the included studies have demonstrated the utility of MEG in the detection of TBI, characterization of brain connectivity abnormalities associated with TBI, correlation of brain signals with post-concussive symptoms, differentiation of TBI from post-traumatic stress disorder, and monitoring the response to TBI treatments. Although presently the utility of MEG is mostly limited to research in TBI, a clinical role for MEG in TBI may become evident with further investigation.

Experimental investigations have been carried out to examine the effect of downstream pipework configurations on the precessing vortex core (PVC) generated within the exhaust region of a cyclone dust separator. Characterization of the PVC using a non-dimensionalized frequency parameter (NDFP) was used to determine the relationship between Reynolds number and geometrical swirl number of the cyclone. The results show that the NDFP tends towards an asymptotic value for Reynolds numbers of about 50 000 and high swirl numbers (> 3.043). This value is reached earlier with lower swirl numbers. It was concluded that any exhaust pipework configuration produced a significant drop in the PVC frequency, and certain configurations either delayed or promoted the development of the PVC.
