Purpose: The study aimed at finding out whether parents in public primary schools in Laikipia West sub-county influence pupils to participate in academic activities. Methodology: A mixed method research design was used where   cross sectional descriptive survey was used on quantitative data and phenomenology was used to complement components of qualitative data. Population of 13 public Primary schools was sampled from the total 65 public Primary Schools in the Sub-County. Out of 2,236, pupils’ in class 6, 7 and 8, 3 girls and 3 boys were selected per class through stratification and simple random method.  Parents/ guardians for the selected pupils were purposively selected regardless of their age, level of education and gender.  All class teachers from the sampled schools were targeted and purposively selected. The data was collected using questionnaires, interview guide, document analysis guide and focus discussion guide. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17 was used to analyze quantitative data. Nine hypotheses that sought to find out parental influence on pupils’ participation in academic activities were tested using correlation coefficient analysis. Qualitative data was transcribed, coded, and themed and interpreted in response to research questions. Results: The results from the study showed that there is prevalence of parental influence on pupil’s academic activities in Laikipia West Sub- County mainly through attending school functions, assisting with homework, communicating with teachers and their children and provision of learning resources. In response to parental involvement, pupils attended school regularly; asked questions in class, joined study groups and finished homework on time. Major restrictions to parental involvement included poverty, insecurity and illiteracy. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The recommendation was that those parents who were not actively involved on pupil’s academic related matters be sensitized on their roles of promoting child education.  The County as well as national governments should support parents by establishing structures and policies that boost the standard of education in the area. According to this study such policies includes; establishing efficient and effective guidance and counseling programs in school, taking legal action on parents who keep their children at home, providing full sponsorship to needy parents and establishing boarding schools among the pastoralists communities.

This article reports on a study that was carried out to establish determinants of ICT integration in mathematics teaching and learning. This paper focuses on the kind of support teachers require to effectively use ICT in teaching mathematics. An exploratory sequential mixed methods research design was employed to conduct this study in which quantitative data was initially collected in the first phase. Qualitative data was then collected in the second phase to explain the quantitative data collected in the initial phase. The study targeted all the teachers teaching in lower grades in both private and public schools. A sample size of 40 lower primary schools were purposively selected based on the availability of ICT tools for instructional purposes in those schools. Three teachers teaching in grade one, two and three were then selected using simple random sampling technique especially in cases where more than three teachers existed. Teacher Questionnaire, Teacher Interview Protocol and Observation Protocol were used to collect data. Data was analyzed qualitatively using descriptive phenomenological analysis in which data transcriptions were divided into themes and sub-themes related to phenomena under study. The findings of the study revealed that there was a significant relationship between supporting teachers’ use of ICT in the classroom and their actual use of ICT in teaching mathematics. The study findings however revealed that teachers teaching lower grades in Mombasa, Kenya were not adequately supported in their use of ICT in teaching mathematics. It was recommended that teachers must be granted adequate support in their use of ICT in teaching mathematics.

C Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model supports students to focus on learning and skill processes. CPS learning, students could select, process, and develop their responses in solving a problem creatively. Metacognition plays an important role in CPS since it could monitor students in selecting and using strategy to improve further cognitive performance. This research aims to find out effectiveness of CPS learning model on mathematics creative thinking skill reviewed from students’ metacognitions. This mixed method research used sequential explanatory design. The population consisted of VIII graders at SMP N 4 Kudus. The samples consisted of experimental class with CPS learning and control class with discovery learning. The first stage of thr research was quantitative data collection. It were done using test and questionnaires to categorized the subject. The next stage was qualitative data collections which were done by using questionnaires and interview. Data of  quantitative data were triangulated with the qualitative data to gain the goal of the research. The findings showed that CPS model was effective to improve creative thinking skill reviewed from students’ metacognitions. Students with high metacognition in the experimental class are more creative than the control class. CPS learning can improve students' creative thinking through the stages of idea finding to acceptance finding, because students can find new ideas and choose the right solution from some of the ideas they have. Mathematics  creative thinking skill of the students with high metacognition shown form the students’ ability in writing problem solving skill of creative questions logically and could provide other notions. Students with medium category have the similar achievement but can correct errors; meanwhile students with low metacognition can wrote problem solving skill of creative questions quite logically and still have problems in giving ideas.

The aim of this study is to identify the thoughts and behaviors of parents in motivating their children aged 4-6 for music, and for a hobby or profession related to music.While collecting the qualitative data for the study, literature review model has been used. For the collection of the quantitative data, on the other hand, a questionnaire has been applied to the parents of children. Collected data has been processed on SPSS and displayed in tables consisting of frequency (n) and percentage (%) values.Population of the research consists of the parents of children enrolled to the preschools affiliated to the official primary schools of Ministry of Education, located in the center of Ankara. The sample of the research, on the other hand, consists of 150 parents of children aged 4-6, who were enrolled to a total of 10 official preschool education institutions in the 2017-2018 school year, affiliated to the Ministry of Education and located in in the center of Ankara. The sample group has been determined through random sampling method. Findings of the study mainly reveal that; even though the parents encourage their children to listen to music, sing and engage in music most of the time, they do not want their children to choose a profession related to this field.

This study observed challenges faced by Ward Officers (WOs) in practicing accountability and participation in the wards in Arusha city. The study adopted descriptive research design and used mixed method research approach. The population involved 175 ward officers in 25 wards in Arusha city from which a sample of 70 ward officers was drawn, but only 68 (97%) of them participated. Purposive sampling and simple random technique were used to obtain respondents. Data was collected through questionnaires and interview guide. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis. Findings revealed that challenges faced by WOs in practicing accountability and participation in their wards includes: little turn up of citizens in political election, lack of interests to participate in decision making, misuse of resources and environmental pollution, corruption and insufficient funds. The study recommended that local government authorities should educate its people on the importance of participating on different development activities from planning to implementation, and WOs should ensure ward information are accessible by the public.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish political rally messages effect on ethnic intolerance and conflict among voters in Migori County, Kenya. Materials and Methods: Descriptive research design was adopted. The study targeted a population of 388, 633 respondents made of voters from Migori County. A sample of 400 respondents was used. The sample for quantitative data was obtained using stratified random sampling method and the other section of the sample; media practitoners were non-randomly sampled. The sample for qualitative data was collected through FGDs on a purposefully selected sample. The data collection was conducted through administering of questionnaires and also Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) using a structured and pilot-tested questionnaires. Data was collected using questionnaires and FGDs. Quantitative data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences computer software package (SPSS statistics version 22). Descriptive statistics drawn include mean, and standard deviation which were presented in tables and graphs. Inferential statistics drawn include multiple regression and correlation analysis. Results:  The findings revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between propaganda, stereotype, hate messages and vernacular radio stations to ethnic intolerance and conflict among voters in Migori County, Kenya. Based on the findings, it was concluded that, there is a positive and significant relationship between political rally messages and vernacular radio stations used in this study, and ethnic intolerance and conflict among voters in Migori County, Kenya. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommends to government agencies such as NCIC and Media Council of Kenya and the IEBC to consider taking measures against these political rally messages as one way to reduce ethnic intolerance and conflict among voters in Migori County, Kenya.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between headteacher’s commitment and learners’ academic performance in primary schools in Kericho County, Kenya. The study was based on the transformational leadership theory. The research design employed was the convergent parallel mixed methods design. The target population consisted of 801 headteachers (524 public schools and 277 private schools) and 5933 teachers in the primary schools, 31 CSOs, 6 TSC Sub County directors and 6 MOE Sub County directors in Kericho County. Simple random and stratified sampling were used to sample 86 head teachers, Purposive sampling was used in selecting 172 teachers, 10 CSOs, 6 TSC Sub County directors and 6 MOE Sub County directors in Kericho County from Kericho County. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview schedules. Data on academic performance was collected using secondary data approach. Piloting was done in 9 primary schools in the neighboring Bomet County. Quantitative data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as pearsons correlation moments and regression. Qualitative data was analyzed using textual analysis. The study established that headteachers’ commitment did not have a statistically significant relationship with learners’ academic performance in primary schools in Kericho County. The regression analysis were as follows. Headteachers' Commitment and learners’ academic performance (Beta = -0.012; p = 0.914).

This study aims to determine; 1) the implementation of the discussion method at the Attoyyibiyyah Islamic Boarding School, Cikande, Serang Regency 2) the implementation of the sorogan method at the Attoyyibiyyah Cikande Islamic Boarding School, Serang Regency 3) the contribution of the discussion and sorogan methods to improve the ability to read the book of fath al-qorib. 4) Comparison of the contribution of the discussion and sorogan methods to improve the ability to read the book of Fath al-qorib. This research is a mixed method research method. Respondents were 40 students, collecting data using questionnaires and tests to determine the contribution of increasing the ability to read the book of fath al-qorib. The qualitative data analysis technique used is the data triangulation technique, while the quantitative data uses statistical analysis. The results of this study are; 1) The discussion method is carried out three times a week, namely; every Saturday night, Monday night and Wednesday night at 20.00 WIB - 22.00, the book that is studied is the book "Fath Al-qorib" Implementation technique; first, the students sit in the majlis, the students who have the task of discussing the next step forward. second, begins with prayer, then reads the material to be delivered and the murody. Third, students are welcome to ask questions, then discussed, then the ustadz explains the material and finally ends with a prayer. 2) The sorogan method is carried out every Monday afternoon, the book that is studied is the book "Fath Al-qorib" Implementation technique; firstly, it was carried out by means of the students reading back the book that was read by Ustadz. second, the teacher listens to the students' reading and explanation of the material. 3) The contribution of the discussion method is 94% and the sorogan method is 40.96% 4) The contribution comparison of the discussion method and the discussion method sorogan has a greater contribution than the sorogan method.

Purpose: This research aimed at determining the influence of socialization on performance of learners with hearing impairment at Thawabu Inclusive Public Primary School in Nairobi, Kenya. The objectives were to; establish modes of communication that promote socialization in an inclusive environment; establish strategies for boosting socialization to enhance academic performance; and establish challenges facing teachers in enhancing socialization to improve academic performance of learners with hearing impairment. Methodology: The research design was a case study design. Structured questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. Purposive sampling was employed to select the school and learners with hearing impairment while hearing learners were randomly selected. Findings: The study found that: modes of communication among learners with hearing impairment, hearing learners and teachers create social and educational change for improvement of academic standards in the school and narrows the gap between those with hearing impairment and their hearing counterparts. Strategies like family support program (assisting children and families in language learning), family-infant-toddler program, and competent and consistent administration system promote learning. Socialization influences incidental learning of learners with hearing impairment to put them at par with their hearing peers on matters related to both academic performance and social advancement. Socialization makes learners with hearing impairment comfortable, self-esteemed, and self-actualized, hence improving educational performance. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study may help to promote attitudinal, psychological and educational change in all stakeholders for inclusive education to be a success and meaningful to learners with hearing impairment. The study recommends that the government should add specially qualified teachers of learners with hearing impairment in Thawabu among other inclusive public schools in Kenya to help promote socialization and to increase inclusivity of leaners with hearing impairment.

Worldwide, curricular changes and financial investments are currently underway to promote the integration of technology in public education and English language learning at a young age. This study examines the ICTs that have become part of the daily instructional practices and educational settings of teachers of English who work with young learners in public schools. To this end, this mixed-methods study draws on a quantitative descriptive-exploratory design and a qualitative multiple-case study. The quantitative data were collected through a Likert questionnaire administered to 28 secondary school teachers of English across 17 municipalities in five regions of Southeast Mexico and 2,944 learners. The qualitative data were gathered from a subsample of six teachers through longitudinal classroom observations, teacher and administrator interviews, and school visits. The non-parametric analyses of the quantitative data and the categorical aggregation analyses of the qualitative data reveal that the use of some multimedia and mobile-assisted communication resources is emerging in the L2 public classrooms. In line with findings from other international contexts, variables that seem particular to public education for young learners and their school setting, however, led teachers to prefer using their own technological devices that included laptops, multimedia material, and cellphones, rather than those in the schools. La educación pública en diversos países está experimentando una serie de reformas que favorecen la integración de la tecnología en la educación pública y el aprendizaje del inglés a una temprana edad. El presente estudio mixto, examinó el empleo de la tecnología en las prácticas pedagógicas cotidianas de los profesores de inglés en la educación secundaria pública y los recursos tecnológicos de los que disponen normalmente en sus escuelas. Para la fase cuantitativa se empleó un diseño descriptivo-exploratorio, a través de un cuestionario tipo Likert aplicado a 28 profesores y 2.944 alumnos en 17 municipios del sureste mexicano. Para la cualitativa, se empleó un estudio de múltiples casos con un sub-grupo de seis profesores del cual se recolectó información a través de observaciones de clases, entrevistas con docentes y directivos, y visitas a las instalaciones de las escuelas. El empleo de análisis no-paramétrico con los datos cuantitativos y de agregación categórica con los datos cualitativos permitió identificar algunos recursos multimedia y de comunicación móvil que los profesores tienden a emplear de manera cotidiana en el aula. No obstante, diversos factores relacionados con aspectos propios de la educación pública y el contexto escolar influyeron para que los profesores prefirieran sus propios medios tecnológicos tales como ordenadores portátiles, teléfonos inteligentes y materiales multimedia a los disponibles en su institución.
