The objective of this work is to analyse the suitability of the Dominations video game as a tool to create meaningful learning in 1st year ESO students for the content related to Mesopotamian culture, as well as the benefits that its use in the classroom provides. To do this, an interpretive-type research structured in different phases has been designed (search for classroom experiences, preparation and design of research and didactic instruments, research in the classroom and evaluation of the results), with the video game as the main tool. This process reveals, in addition to improved motivation in the classroom, a better perception of the content, as well as a better understanding of historical time. Thus, the video game is an excellent tool within the formal educational framework for the teaching and learning of the Mesopotamian civilization.

Most teachers only dream of their students spending the amount of motivation, attention, passion, and critical thinking on their classes that some do playing video games. Many teachers have thought “How can I compete with that?” as they confiscate a hand-held gaming device from a student. However, more and more teachers are incorporating video games into their curriculum, instead of banning them. This chapter argues that it is not just video games that can transform teaching, video game techniques can as well. By using video game design principles such as game stories and quests, teachers can restructure their teaching so students do not just learn the curriculum, they experience it. This chapter explores the research on using game-based teaching and learning with the Next Generation including how game-based teaching can be used to achieve 21st century goals as outlined by business leaders within 21st century educational constraints.

This chapter shares an example of using a critical multicultural lens in teaching and learning to engage diversity and social justice in intercultural experiences. The author draws on the classroom experiences of the author and highlights instructor-learner perspectives. Emphasized is the use of the knowledge building classroom engaging pedagogy of discomfort, courageous dialogues, and critical reflections in a reiterative process to engage students in “critical knowing thyself” and “respectfully knowing others.” Students are encouraged to use a critical multicultural lens that centers power in societies together with supportive readings, documentary/films, and activities to examine the social construction of race (racism), gender (sexism), heteronormativity (homophobia), class (classism), and (dis)abilities (ableism) at the personal, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels. The conclusion highlights the need to engage self-criticality and the pedagogy of discomfort to examine the interlocking systems of oppression to support students' learning beyond just cataloging privileges.

Orang Asli was the original people, who are majority of them located in peninsular Malaysia. They are facing a difficulty in education since less meaningful environment created for them which integrate their preferable learning styles. Additionally previous studies show that Orang Asli students had low motivation level in learning since less condusive education enviroment developed for them. Thus, it is important that teachers have a sound understanding of their students’ different learning styles. The significance of understanding students’ learning styles also applies to Orang Asli students. However, perhaps due to their isolation, this group’s need for meaningful education has not been widely studied. Consequently, a lack of literature on their learning styles is apparent. This study aims to measure whether the learning styles positively affect meaningful learning among Orang Asli students. A quantitative research was conducted which involved 72 Orang Asli students from an Orang Asli community in Selangor, Malaysia. The data was collected using the Meaningful Hybrid E-Training Instruments. Data was analyzed with the SmartPLS 3.0 software. The research findings show that the instrument is highly reliable and valid. Moreover, it has been discovered that Orang Asli students’ learning styles have a positive effect upon their meaningful learning. This study demonstrated that teaching and learning activities catering to these students’ different learning styles allow meaningful learning to be achieved more successfully. Therefore, teachers are highly encouraged to take into account the various learning styles of Orang Asli students in their teaching in order to help them achieve meaningful learning.

Atividades Investigativas. ResumoThis article asks: how the Meaningful Learning Theory presents itself in teaching and learning situations? It is a comprehensive cut from a broader study, from master's degree, from which the teaching of mathematics stands out based on this theory. It was carried out with students of the Mathematics course at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. In it, a proposal was developed that, in addition to the research method, constituted itself as a pedagogical proposal for the future teaching performance of individuals. A dialogue on Mathematics Education themes was promoted and activities, classified as exploratory and investigative, were proposed to be developed in a collaborative way. The dialogues and the development of the activities were transcribed, and assuming a phenomenological stance, the researcher sought, along with the transcriptions, convergences that could, when articulated, bring understandings about the questioned phenomenon. In this movement, nuclear units were formed, of which stands out in this study: the presence of the Meaningful Learning Theory in the development of activities and in the learning of geometric concepts. By describing a reflexive synthesis of this unit, articulating understandings brought by the present study, explaining the presence of theory in the entire learning process, from the teacher's planning to the development given by the students to the planned activities, it is understood to be expressing an understanding of what asks the guiding question of this study. Keywords: Theory of Meaningful Learning. Mathematical Education. Investigative Activities

Learning about hydrocarbons in a chemistry class requires a high understanding of concepts and memory. Students usually only focus on memorizing and understanding the material when studying hydrocarbons in order to get good grades during exams, as happened to the grade 11 students in one of the schools in Lampung. This results in students not really learning about hydrocarbons and how they are useful for daily life. The purpose of writing this paper is to explain the study of the application of Ausubel's meaningful learning theory with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) strategy on hydrocarbon material based on a biblical perspective. Ausubel's meaningful learning theory with a Contextual Teaching and Learning strategy can help students find the meaning of learning because this theory emphasizes the integration of information that is relevant to a student's life or context. Through contextual learning students also obtain life values based on a biblical perspective. The method of writing this research is a literature study based on 20 reference sources. The conclusion obtained is that each stage in Ausubel's meaningful learning theory with a contextual approach can help students find the meaning of learning by connecting old knowledge with new knowledge that is more relevant to life. Students can also add value to their life by becoming wise users of petroleum which is a hydrocarbon.

Teaching aids at the higher education level are not something strange and rare, because the level of need in terms of material presentation is felt more useful and easy. Especially for the basic education level, a tool for delivering material to elementary school children which have been more conventional in the form of teachers reading or writing material, meanwhile, students copy what the class teacher writes. This habit of course will be slow and monotonous and can increase boredom in following the teaching and learning process. To reduce the level of boredom and the less attractive way of delivering this teaching material, it is necessary to have a way that can arouse learning enthusiasm for students at the basic education level, namely in the form of visual displays using computers as the main tool with more material content. new and innovative. This is even more so if it is applied in the form of introduction to nature reserves, history, and cultural heritage. The enthusiasm of the students while trying the puzzle game application based on the introduction of Bengkulu's culture and natural wealth encouraged the students to get to know and understand more about the importance of maintaining and being proud of the natural and cultural wealth of the Bengkulu people.

The aim of this study was to design a pedagogical model for a simulation-based learning environment (SBLE) in healthcare. Currently, simulation and virtual reality are a major focus in healthcare education. However, when and how these learning environments should be applied is not well-known. The present study tries to fill that gap. We pose the following research question: What kind of pedagogical model supports and facilitates students’ meaningful learning in SBLEs? The study used design-based research (DBR) and case study approaches. We report the results from our second case study and how the pedagogical model was developed based on the lessons learned. The study involved nine facilitators and 25 students. Data were collected and analysed using mixed methods. The main result of this study is the refined pedagogical model. The model is based on the socio-cultural theory of learning and characteristics of meaningful learning as well as previous pedagogical models. The model will provide a more holistic and meaningful approach to teaching and learning in SBLEs. However, the model requires evidence and further development.
