By using the mobile property of silicone oil, a wedged iron (Fe) film system, deposited on glass substrate, has been prepared by dc-magnetron sputtering technique. The wedged Fe film is quenched by the silicone oil during deposition, and therefore contains a very high compressive stress, which is relieved by formation of a large number of telephone cord buckles. Both the buckle width l and maximum buckle deflection δ increase linearly with the film thickness, but the ratio of δ to l (l/δ ) decreases steadily. The internal stress and adhesion energy are estimated in the frame of continuum elastic theory.

Reinforced concrete is a material formed by pouring concrete over reinforcement steel bars and wires and sometimes by a polymer that turns by drying in a hard and rigid composite. Welding of steel reinforcement concrete is a relatively difficult operation and with a large amount of work, given by the large number of welds that are needed and when this work is make in site conditions. The most common method of steel reinforcement welding is manual welding with coated electrode. The major disadvantage of this process is low productivity in welding effects on execution time, and the cost of welding. An alternative to manual welding with coated electrode for steel reinforcement welding on site is the welding process with self-shielded tubular wires. The aim of this paper is to determine the mechanical properties of welded reinforcing steel PC 52 with self-shielded wires, using a vibroacustic technique. To validate this method, the results obtained by vibroacoustic signal processing are compared with those determined by the tensile stresses of the same samples.

Abstract A new GLC method for the direct determination of the active ingredient in Karathane Technical and Karathane WD is presented. The internal standard (4,6-dinitro-o-cresol) in nitrobenzene solution is added to the sample, or the extract residue in the case of Karathane WD, and the solution is chromatographed on a flame ionization instrument, using an 8’ glass column packed with 3% QF-1 silicone oil on 60–80 mesh Gas Chrom Q. Column temperature is programmed from 100 to 230°C. A working standard of known composition is run in the same manner in series with the sample. The precision of a single determination of the total 2,4- and 2,6-dinitrooctylphenyl crotonate isomers (about 74%) in Karathane Technical and the total dinitrooctylphenols and mononitrooctylphenols (about 6%) is s = 0.5% absolute. Data on the analysis of a limited number of Karathane WD samples show good agreement for the total active ingredient.

Abstract A gas chromatographic method is described for the quantitative determination of dioxathion and chlorfenvinphos in emulsifiable concentrates and livestock dips. A convenient quantity of the emulsifiable formulation is dissolved in xylene and the aqueous dip is extracted with xylene for gas chromatographic analysis, using a mixed silicone oil stationary phase and a flame ionization detector. The coefficients of variation for the dioxathion and chlorfenvinphos determinations in the emulsifiable concentrate are 2.4 and 1.0%, respectively. Recoveries of the former from a fouled dip ranged from 97 to 103% and recoveries of the latter ranged from 92 to 97%.
