In this paper, an adaptive backstepping control strategy is presented to solve the longitudinal control problem for a hypersonic vehicle (HSV) subject to actuator saturation and disturbances. Small perturbation linearization transforms the dynamics to a seconded-order system at each trimming point, with total disturbance including unmodeled dynamics, parametric uncertainties, and external disturbances. The disturbance can be estimated and compensated for by an extended state observer (ESO), and thus the system is decoupled. To deal with the actuator saturation and wide flight envelope, an adaptive backstepping control strategy is designed. A rigorous proof of finite-time convergence is provided applying Lyapunov method. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified in simulations.

Aim: The aim of this article is to work out the differential significance of risk factors of media usage, personality and social environment in order to explain problematic video game usage in childhood and adolescence. Method: Data are drawn from the Berlin Longitudinal Study Media, a four-year longitudinal control group study with 1 207 school children. Data from 739 school children who participated at 5th and 6th grade were available for analysis. Result: To explain the development of problematic video game usage, all three areas, i. e. specific media usage patterns, certain aspects of personality and certain factors pertaining to social environment, must be taken into consideration. Video game genre, video gaming in reaction to failure in the real world (media usage), the children’s/adolescents’ academic self-concept (personality), peer problems and parental care (social environment) are of particular significance. Conclusion: The results of the study emphasize that in future – and above all also longitudinal – studies different factors regarding social environment must also be taken into account with the recorded variables of media usage and personality in order to be able to explain the construct of problematic video game usage. Furthermore, this will open up possibilities for prevention.

Background and Introduction: The proposed control law is designed to provide fast reference tracking with minimal overshoot and to minimize the effect of unknown nonlinearities and external disturbances. Methods: In this work, an enhanced composite nonlinear feedback technique using adaptive control is developed for a nonlinear delayed system subjected to input saturation and exogenous disturbances. It ensures that the plant response is not affected by adverse effect of actuator saturation, unknown time delay and unknown nonlinearities/ disturbances. The analysis of stability is done by Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional that guarantees asymptotical stability. Results: The proposed control law is validated by its implementation on exothermic chemical reactor. MATLAB figures are provided to compare the results. Conclusion: The simulation results of the proposed controller are compared with the conventional composite nonlinear feedback control which illustrates the efficiency of the proposed controller.
