The frequency synthesizer is an important part of modern communication system. It is widely used in digital communications, satellite communications, remote telemetry, radar, navigation and other fields. For frequency source with low phase noise and low spurious, this paper gives hardware architecture and implementation method circuit realization of the X-band frequency source which use phase locked and frequency multiplier theory. Its main targets are tested. The test results show that the performance of the frequency synthesizer is preferably with lower spurious level and phase noise.

In modern communication system, the spacing of channel becomes ever more finely. For communication equipment, it has made ​​high demands on the stability and accuracy of the frequency. Based on DDS technology, combined with the multiplier circuit, we developed a high-speed X-band frequency hopping source. Experimental results show that this frequency source is with excellent frequency stability and low phase noise.

This paper presents the design and fabrication of a compact 4-8GHz sweep frequency source at C-band with a hybrid frequency synthesizer technology. With DDS used as PLL’s reference, the frequency step size is as small as 3×10-4 Hz and the measured 1 kHz offset phase noise is-91.79dBc/Hz at 4GHz. This frequency sweep source has advantages of wide bandwidth, low phase noise, small frequency step size, low spurious, fast tuning speed, small size and low power consumption. So it is suitable for wireless hand-held test equipment and communication equipment.

In this paper, based on the programmable frequency dividers HMC394 and AD company's integer PLL chip ADF4107, in the premise of not reducing the phase detector frequency, improved the frequency resolution and effectively inhibits the phase stray. Designed a frequency source with high performance index: high resolution is 10kHz, low phase noise is-91.27dBc/Hz @10kHz, low spurious is less than-60dBc, high harmonic suppression is less than-60dBc,the design method is simple, low cost, flexible control, high performance and widely used.
