Along with the main rivers and lakes of China are polluted inordinately, water environment issues in China have been becomingincreasingly severe. The cross-domain water pollution contradictions cannot be well settled by the government-centered river and watercourse control, which means that,urgently, a new river and watercourse control mechanism needs to be established. With continuous changes of water management, in order to get along with water even more harmoniously, the mankind has formed the concept of water resource management through cross-domain consultation. Combining traditional, historical and social culturefactors, ancient and modern, this paper analyzes influences of the cross-domain consultation upon water culture, proposes detailed countermeasures of establishing the water culture featuring“harmoniousco-existence between mankind and water”by cross-domain consultation, so as to effectively settle contradictions triggered by water pollution amongdifferent administrative regions, and improve the efficiency ofwatercontrol.

Water resources in many urban areas are under enormous stress due to large-scale urban expansion and population explosion. The decision-makers are often faced with the dilemma of either maintaining high economic growth or protecting water resources and the environment. Simple criteria of water supply and drainage do not reflect the requirement of integrated urban water management. The Urban-Water Harmony (UWH) model is based on the concept of harmony and offers a more integrated approach to urban water management. This model calculates four dimensions, namely urban development, urban water services, water–society coordination, and water environment coordination. And the Analytic Hierarchy Process has been used to determine the indices weights. We applied the UWH model to Beijing, China for an 11-year assessment. Our findings show that, despite the severe stress inherent in rapid development and water shortage, the urban water relationship of Beijing is generally evolving in a positive way. The social–economic factors such as the water recycling technologies contribute a lot to this change. The UWH evaluation can provide a reasonable analysis approach to combine various urban and water indices to produce an integrated and comparable evaluation index. This, in turn, enables more effective water management in decision-making processes.

Abstract Bioretention system is an effective way to solve the problem of urban water environment pollution. In this paper, the difficulty of the existing biological retention system to effectively remove dissolved heavy metals was studied. By comparing the adsorption effect of acid quartz sand filler layers with nano-hydroxyapatite (N-HAP), medical stone, nano-carbon, and biochar, the conclusion is drawn from the static and cylinder dynamic experiments that N-HAP has the best effect of removing Cu2+ and Zn2+, and the effect is long lasting. The scanning electron microscopy results showed that the N-HAP particles were rough and the surface was more rod-shaped, which increased the specific surface area of the N-HAP particles, promoted the complexation and electrostatic interaction of the additives and heavy metal solutions, and facilitated the adsorption of heavy metals. The research results help to improve the technology of filler matrix modification.

In this study, the assessment of nationwide urban water environment status was conducted based upon a method of integrating both 70% of objective water quality and 30% of standard compliance percent compared with national standard limit of GB3838-2002 for Class III. The impact factors on urban water environment status were discussed. The results showed that the status of urban water environment could be graded into 5 types in China. The population density, water resources, urbanized areas and so on were key impact factors on water environment. The study found that population density and urban built-up area had significantly negative effect on urban water environment status, and there was positive relationship between per capita water resources and urban water environment status. The results would provide the guidance for effective governance and management of urban water environment at national level.

As a fundamental part of greenspace, urban water landscape contributes greatly to the ecological system and at the same time supplies a leisure area for residents. The paper did an analysis on the number of aquatic plant communities, the form of water spaces, and water quality condition by investigating 135 quadrats (90 at amphibious boundary and the land, 45 in the water) in 45 transects of 15 urban and suburban parks. We found that water spaces had monotonous forms with low biodiversity and poor water quality. In addition, urban water landscapes hardly provided ecological functions given excessive construction. Accordingly, a proposition to connect tradition with modernism in the improvement and innovation of urban water landscape planning was put forward, and further, the way to achieve it was explored. By taking Qinhu Wetland Park as a case, the principles and specific planning methods on macro- and microperspectives were discussed to guide the development of urban landscape in eastern China.
