Abstract This paper describes an integrated product design study conducted with Polaroid Corporation for a liquid crystal display video projector, applying a research system called DOME. The services of distributed objects — encapsulating CAE simulations, component catalogs, manufacturing cost models, geometric and configuration models, customer preference models, and environmental life-cycle assessment — are mathematically related to form an integrated product system model. Software objects providing optimization and decision support are also included in the model to create a design tradeoff environment. As such, designers can obtain sales predictions based upon configuration changes and make tradeoffs with other requirements. Benchmarking suggests there would be approximately a 30% increase in the time to fully evaluate the first design configuration due to the overhead of creating the integrated system model. However, the time to fully evaluate subsequent alternatives may be reduced from months to minutes.

AbstractFacing a rising competitive pressure, manufactures create advantages when they are able to offer customer-specific products to the conditions of a mass production article. Traditional configurators support the creation of personalized products from the elements of a modular product system, but are based on a pre-defined set of rules. The model based approach changes the environment of configuration from static configuration rules to the dependencies defined within the product's system model. So, by regarding target quantities of the user, the configurator identifies the optimal variant.

The process of selecting requirements for a release of a software product is challenging as the decision-making is based on uncertain predictions of customer value and development cost. This paper presents a method aimed at supporting software product development organisations in the identification of process improvement proposals to increase requirements selection quality. The method is based on an in-depth analysis of requirements selection decision outcomes after the release has been launched to the users. The method is validated in two separate case studies involving real requirements and industrial requirements engineering experts. The conclusions from the two case studies are that the method seems valuable in situations with complex release planning decisions, such as in market-driven projects. It also appears essential that participants with different viewpoints attend the root cause discussion. Requirements interdependencies seem to play a big role in release planning decision-making. In addition, successful projects can also be a source of learning.

Raffamart Store is one of the trading business that sells various clothes. This store has not provided product sales service via internet or e-commerce (Electronic Commerce). In the process of selling ordering products as well as transactions, customers must come directly to the store. Customers can not place product orders due to system limitations owned by Raffamart stores. Therefore, a web-based sales system (e-commerce) is needed to assist the store in promoting the product. System development method used is waterfall method. The tools used to illustrate the system model are use case diagrams, activity diagrams and class diagrams. This website was developed using macromedia dreamweaver, programming language PHP and MySQL as database. With this web-based system, of course, will facilitate the processing of product data for sale and also help in terms of product marketing, because any information provided to customers can be faster.
