In this paper, we propose and study the uniaxial perfectly matched layer (PML) method for three-dimensional time-domain electromagnetic scattering problems, which has a great advantage over the spherical one in dealing with problems involving anisotropic scatterers. The truncated uniaxial PML problem is proved to be well-posed and stable, based on the Laplace transform technique and the energy method. Moreover, the $L^2$-norm and $L^{\infty}$-norm error estimates in time are given between the solutions of the original scattering problem and the truncated PML problem, leading to the exponential convergence of the time-domain uniaxial PML method in terms of the thickness and absorbing parameters of the PML layer. The proof depends on the error analysis between the EtM operators for the original scattering problem and the truncated PML problem, which is different from our previous work (SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 58(3) (2020), 1918-1940).

An infinite cylinder of arbitrary shape is embedded into a circular one, and the whole structure is illuminated by a plane wave. The electromagnetic scattering problem is solved rigorously under the condition that the materials of the two cylinders possess similar characteristics. The solution is based on a linear Taylor expansion of the scattering integral formula which can be useful in a variety of different configurations. For the specific structure, its own far field response is given in the form of a double series incorporating hypergeometric functions. The results are in good agreement with those obtained via eigenfunction expansion. Several numerical examples concerning various shape patterns are examined and discussed.

The one-dimensional inverse electromagnetic scattering problem for the inversion of amplitude data of either linear polarization state is investigated. The method exploits the complex structure of the field scattered from a class of inhomogeneous dielectrics and enables the analytic signal to be reconstructed from measurements of the amplitude alone. The method is demonstrated and exemplified with experimental data in both transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarization states. The implications of the method as a means for regularization of scattered data are briefly discussed.

An efficient algorithm is proposed to analyze the electromagnetic scattering problem from a high resolution head model with pixel data format. The algorithm is based on parallel technique and the conjugate gradient (CG) method combined with the fast Fourier transform (FFT). Using the parallel CG-FFT method, the proposed algorithm is very efficient and can solve very electrically large-scale problems which cannot be solved using the conventional CG-FFT method in a personal computer. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing numerical results with analytical Mie-series solutions for dielectric spheres. Numerical experiments have demonstrated that the proposed method has good performance on parallel efficiency.
