Restoration of motion is an important component of success in digital replantation. This is achieved only with rigid bony fixation that allows early post-operative mobilisation. In addition, the technique used should be simple and avoid excessive soft tissue stripping. These aims are difficult to achieve in amputations near the base of the proximal phalanx with existing bone fixation techniques. We describe a modification of the perpendicular loop wiring technique, where one wire loop is intra-articular, which satisfies the above criteria, and describe its application and results in two clinical cases.

Tracheary elements, the water-conducting cells in plants, are characterized by their reinforced walls that became thickened in localized patterns during differentiation (Fig. 1). The synthesis of this localized wall involves abundant secretion of Golgi vesicles that export preformed matrix polysaccharides and putative proteins involved in cellulose synthesis. Since the cells are not growing, some kind of endocytotic process must also occur. Many researchers have commented on where exocytosis occurs in relation to the thickenings (for example, see), but they based their interpretations on chemical fixation techniques that are not likely to provide reliable information about rapid processes such as vesicle fusion. We have used rapid freezing to more accurately assess patterns of vesicle fusion in tracheary elements. We have also determined the localization of calcium, which is known to regulate vesicle fusion in plant and animal cells.Mesophyll cells were obtained from immature first leaves of Zinnia elegans var. Envy (Park Seed Co., Greenwood, S.C.) and cultured as described previously with the following exceptions: (a) concentration of benzylaminopurine in the culture medium was reduced to 0.2 mg/l and myoinositol was eliminated; and (b) 1.75ml cultures were incubated in 22 x 90mm shell vials with 112rpm rotary shaking. Cells that were actively involved in differentiation were harvested and frozen in solidifying Freon as described previously. Fractures occurred preferentially at the cell/planchet interface, which allowed us to find some excellently-preserved cells in the replicas. Other differentiating cells were incubated for 20-30 min in 10(μM CTC (Sigma), an antibiotic that fluoresces in the presence of membrane-sequestered calcium. They were observed in an Olympus BH-2 microscope equipped for epi-fluorescence (violet filter package and additional Zeiss KP560 barrier filter to block chlorophyll autofluorescence).

The review study closely introspects’ on the prerequisites of evidence-based curriculum within the realms of specialized skills development agenda as pursued through higher education Institutions in Africa. Explicitly, the constraining factors that bedevil the leather sector are identifiable when appropriate research designs tools are applied. As such, in the process of identifying the constraints, renascence themes could, therefore, be beneficial in collecting evidence in support of developing curriculum. Such a developed curriculum stands higher chances of acceptability and aptly mitigates against challenges related to specialized skills development. The review succinctly indicates that in the process of identifying the themes, the scope of collecting evidence becomes attainable, thus, improving curricula that entails a participatory and transformative orientation. Indeed, during the review phase of the study, three main perspectives are depicted to be consequential in attaining a comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum, such as; action research, backward curriculum design perspective and theoretical perspective. Therefore, about this perspective, a reflection based on personal experiences and related to new knowledge with what they already know leads to constructivism. The relevancy of a constructivist strategy is observed to facilitate the observatory and evaluative stance during the development of evidence-based curriculum. Moreover, in consolidating and sustaining the benefit of such a developed curriculum, threshold concept was found during the review that it complements the process and strengthens the collecting evidence for curriculum development. Accordingly, therefore, the result of the review study indicate that Africa would  position itself for initiating transformational changes in aspects of specialized higher education, fruition towards socio-economic benefits (e.g. employment, wealth creation and technology transfer), reversal of urban-rural or inter/intra continental migration flurry.

Measures to prevent recurrence of venous ulcersAbstract: To identify and analyze scientific evidences adopted in the prevention of venous ulcers recurrences. It is an integrative literature review study, descriptive, with a qualitative approach, carried out between October and November 2017, based on consultation of national and international databases. The descriptors used were "venous ulcer", "varicose ulcer", "relapse" associated with the key word "prevention". It resorted to thematic analysis of content, emerging two categories. Of the 305 articles found, 10 were selected according to the selection criteria. The main evidences observed were "measures for the prevention of relapses of venous ulcers" and "facilities and difficulties of the implementation of preventive measures". It was evidenced that the measures are diverse to prevent the recurrence of venous ulcer, however, adherence is still a limiting factor to the practices due to the complexity that involves it.Descriptors: Venous Ulcer, Relapse, Prevention. Medidas para la prevención de recidivas de úlceras venosasResumen: Identificar y analizar evidencias científicas adoptadas en la prevención de recidivas de úlceras venosas.
