A potent luminescent sensor for the detection of iodide ion was developed based on a terbium(III)-based lanthanide–organic framework [Tb(cpia)(H2O)2]n‧nH2O (1), which was prepared under hydrothermal condition using 5-(4-carboxyphenoxy)-isophthalic acid (H3cpia)...

Flexible piezoelectric PZT/fabric composite material is pliable and tough in nature which is in a lack of traditional PZT patches. It has great application prospect in improving the sensitivity of sensor/actuator made by piezoelectric materials especially when they are used for curved surfaces or complicated conditions. In this paper, glass fiber cloth was adopted as carrier to grow PZT piezoelectric crystal particles by hydrothermal method, and the optimum conditions were studied. The results showed that the soft glass fiber cloth was an ideal kind of carrier. A large number of cubic-shaped PZT nanocrystallines grew firmly in the carrier with a dense and uniform distribution. The best hydrothermal condition was found to be pH 13, reaction time 24 h, and reaction temperature 200°C.

Hydroxyapatite/Chitosan (HAp/CS) bio-coatings were prepared on the surface of carbon/ carbon (C/C) composites by hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition, using sonochemical process resulted HAp nanoparticles, isopropyl alcohol and chitosan as raw materials. The influences of hydro- thermal conditions and deposition voltage on the microstructures and morphologies of the as-prepared coatings were investigated. It was shown that homogenous and dense HAp/CS coatings on C/C composites are obtained by hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition. With the increase of deposition voltage, density and homogeneity of the as-prepared HAp/CS composite coatings are well improved. Due to the growth of HAp nanoparticles in the hydrothermal condition, the subsequent heat treatment of the HAp/CS coatings is not needed.

The paper discusses the crushing behavior of glass fibre reinforced epoxy (GRE) pipes under hydrothermal ageing condition. This study determines the behavior of the GRE pipes when subjected to different ageing periods and temperatures. Hydrothermal ageing has been found to cause degradation between resin and fibre interface thus causing the reduction in the strength of composite laminates. The pipes were subjected to hydrothermal condition to simulate and precipitate ageing by immersing the pipe samples in water at 80°C for 250, 500, and 1000 hours. Compression tests were carried out using Universal Testing Machine (UTM) for virgin condition and aged samples in accordance with ASTM D695 standard. The maximum force at the initial failure region is observed for each of the conditioned pipes. The results show that the strength of the matrix systems was considerably degraded due to the plasticization of the matrix system.

A novel phosphor, copper doped hydronium alunite ((H3O)Al3(SO4)2(OH)6:Cu), exhibiting a blue photoluminescence peak at a wavelength of 420 nm was successfully synthesized from aluminum and copper sulfates solution under hydrothermal condition (240 °C, 60 min). The measurement of XRD revealed that the obtained products were single phase with a crystal structure of (H3O)Al3(SO4)2(OH)6. Luminescence intensity of (H3O)Al3(SO4)2(OH)6:Cu synthesized from sulfates solution was 6.2 times higher than that from an aluminum nitrate solution mixed with an elemental sulfur and a copper nitrate solution. The increase of luminescence intensity was resulted from an improvement of the crystallinity of (H3O)Al3(SO4)2(OH)6.
