Given the rapidly increasing number of foreign nationals migrating to Korea, this study investigates the relationship between cultural adaptation, tourist satisfaction, and quality of life among Chinese immigrants in Korea. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 344 Chinese immigrants in Korea who visited Gyeongju, where Korean World Heritage sites and modern tourist facilities coexist. A structural equation model was used to verify the hypothesis and indicated that cultural assimilation and cultural separation had a significant effect on tourist satisfaction, whereas cultural integration and cultural change did not have any statistically significant effect on tourist satisfaction. Additionally, tourist satisfaction had a significant effect on quality of life (in terms of subjective well-being and psychological well-being). The results of this study can function as a reference for improving Chinese immigrants’ cultural adaptation, tourist satisfaction, and quality of life.

The study aimed to carry on the process of the cultural adaptation of the Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life Questionnaire (ISYQOL) into Polish (ISYQOL-PL). The a priori hypothesis was: the ISYQOL-PL questionnaire is reliable and appropriate for adolescents with a spinal deformity. Fifty-six adolescents (mean age 13.8 ± 1.9) with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) with a mean Cobb angle 29.1 (±9.7) and two with Scheuermann juvenile kyphosis (SJK) with a kyphosis angle 67.5 (±17.7) degrees were enrolled. All patients had been wearing a corrective TLSO brace for an average duration of 2.3 (±1.8) years. The Institutional Review Board approved the study. The cross-cultural adaptation of the ISYQOL-PL was performed following the guidelines set up by the International Quality of Life Assessment Project. The reliability was assessed using internal consistency (the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient) and test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient ICC2.1, CI = 95%); moreover, floor and ceiling effects were calculated. The internal consistency was satisfactory (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient 0.8). The test–retest revealed high reliability with the value of ICC2.1 for the entire group 0.90, CI (0.84 to 0.94). There was neither floor nor ceiling effect for the ISYQOL-PL overall score. The ISYQOL-PL is reliable and can be used in adolescents with spinal deformity.

The objective of this study is to describe preliminary results from the cross-cultural adaptation of the Quality of Life Assessment Questionnaire, used to measure health related quality of life (HRQL) in Brazilian children aged between 5 and 11 with HIV/AIDS. The cross-cultural model evaluated the Concept, Item, Semantic and Measurement Equivalences (internal consistency and intra-observer reliability). Evaluation of the conceptual, item, semantic equivalences showed that the Portuguese version is pertinent for the Brazilian context. Four of seven domains showed internal consistency above 0.70 (α: 0.76-0.90) and five of seven revealed intra-observer reliability (ricc: 0.41-0.70). This first Portuguese version of the HRQL questionnaire can be understood as a valuable tool for assessing children's HRQL, but further studies with large samples and more robust analyses are recommended before use in the Brazilian context.

Abstract Background Quality of life must be studied as a determinant of health. Depressive state must be measured with culturally adapted and population-validated instruments specially in times of COVID19 pandemics in undergraduate health students to avoid future health damages. The European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions (EQ5-D-3L) is validated but the ‘9-Item Patient Health Questionaire’ (PHQ-9) still needed validation for university population, which this study intended to do. Methods With original authors authorization and after cross-cultural adaptation, a cross sectional, observational study, applying the PHQ-9 and EQ-5D-3L to Faculty of Medicine and Faculty Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FMUC and FFUC) students, along with an epidemiological survey in a convenience sample using student’s social networks in november 2020. Descriptive, inferential and correlational statistics were performed. Results A size representative sample of 126 participants was studied, of which 72 from FMUC (57.1%) and 54 from FFUC (42.9%). For PHQ-9 (reliability cronbach’s alfa of 0.815, and F test = 38 786, P < 0.001) were found and global score FFUC students and females was higher, P = 0.014 and P = 0.034, respectively. Females also scored worse for item 5 of EQ5D, P < 0.001. PHQ9 and EQ5D correlation of ρ = -0.588, P < 0.001 and PHQ9 and question 5 of EQ5D-3L with PHQ9 of ρ = +0.484, P < 0.001 were found. Conclusions The cultural adaptation and validation of the ‘9-Item Patient Health Questionaire’ (PHQ9) with the European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions (EQ5D-3L) scale, in FMUC and FFUC students population, verified that the PHQ-9 allows to adequately assess the existence of depressive symptoms and that male individuals were in better mental health.
