Tunneling conductance for N-I-S and S-I-S tunnel junctions are calculated within the framework of an extended van-Hove singularity in the single particle density of states of the superconducting electrode. Results from our calculations are compared with the conductance data of N-I-S and S-I-S junctions consisting of high-T c superconductors. Possible interpretation of the photoemission intensity curves, in terms of the quasiparticle density of states, is considered and predictions are made for conductance including a d-wave pseudogap in the quasiparticle dispersion.

We study the tunneling spectra for superconductor-insulator-normal metal (S-I-N) tunnel junctions with an s -wave or a d -wave superconductor within the weak-coupling model. We deduce the temperature behavior of tunneling conductance and their peak positions as well as of the zero-bias conductance. The results obtained allow us to discriminate among the two singlet spin states.

AbstractWe have prepared low leakage tunnel junctions on epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) films grown on SrTiO3(001) by evaporating Pb counterelectrodes onto chemically etched YBCO surfaces. Structure in the voltage dependence of the tunneling conductance is reproducible and strongly resembles what has been obtained in similarly etched junctions on YBCO single crystals.
