The epilogue concludes the book by clarifying how Critical Humanism makes possible an ethics of religious studies. Positioned against an episteme that draws its sustenance from Reformation, Enlightenment, and post-Enlightenment thinking, Critical Humanism provides reasons that enable present and future generations to grasp the values of studying religion and provides a model of reasoning that can break the spell of the field’s regime of truth of value-neutrality. It thereby enables scholars to overcome a long-standing repression of desire and discover humanistic excellences according to which motives for studying religion are desirable and worthy of attachment and transmission. Seen in this way, the epilogue argues, Critical Humanism is a vocation. It allows scholars to recommend religious studies for the present and in ways that make possible hope for the future.

This book asks, can the study of religion be justified? It poses this question on the view that scholarship in religion, especially work in “theory and method,” is preoccupied with matters of methodological procedure and is thus inarticulate about the goals that can justify the study of religion and motivate scholarship in the field. For that reason, it insists, the field suffers from a crisis of rationale. The book identifies six prevailing methodologies in the field, each of which it critically examines as symptomatic of this crisis, on the way toward offering an alternative framework for thinking about purposes for studying religion. Shadowing these methodologies is a Weberian scientific ideal for studying religion, one that privileges value-neutrality. This ideal poses obstacles to making justificatory claims on behalf of studying religion and fortifies a repressive conscience about thinking normatively within the field’s regime of truth. After making these points, the book describes an alternative framework, Critical Humanism, especially how it theorizes about the ends rather than the means of humanistic scholarship and offers a basis for thinking about the ethics of religious studies as held together by four values: post-critical reasoning, social criticism, cross-cultural fluency, and environmental responsibility. Ordered to such purposes, the book argues, the study of religion can imagine itself as a valuable and desirable enterprise so that scholars of religion can relax their commitment to matters of methodological procedure and avow the values of studying religion.

Apart from considerations of beneficence, we have reasons of at least four different kinds to ensure the survival of future generations under conditions conducive to human flourishing. This chapter explores two of those categories of reason: reasons of love and reasons of interest. Reasons of love rest on the fact that the fate of humanity matters to us in its own right. Reasons of interest appeal to our self-interest: that is, to our interest in leading lives engaged in worthwhile activities. These two categories of reason are conceptually independent, but it is partly because the future of humanity matters to us in its own right that the survival of future generations is in our interest.

Abstract When testimony from the survivors from Nazi extermination fields were first known, the human race filled with dismay. The suffering provoked and the systematic conscious application of the technique of destruction of the individual, were discoveries that alerted the individual on the nature of the individual itself.   Such a horror was seen through the narrations that time froze.     The silent demand from the authentic victims, who died, was suspended on the air of memory until the responsible recognized their  guilt. Obscurity could not hold such deep crimes.   For this reason the end of history cannot be made. The suffering of the individual provoked up to this point by the individual itself, force an unresolved point that cannot be erased.   The scream of pain reminds the future generations the need to repair, forgive and recognize it.   Key words: Testimony, memory, extermination fields, phenomenology, hermeneutics, suffering, inheritance.

This paper attends to differing praxes of futurity circulating in Colombia, both in dominant and subaltern forms. It first considers temporality as an apparatus of governmentality, raison d’état, and settler colonial logics of violence deployed in the service of late liberalism, capitalist endeavor, and the so-called “peace dividend.” In contrast, it elaborates two distinct rights claims that counter official state claims on the future: the principle of the right to a distinct vision of the future in Colombia’s black Pacific social movement; and the legal claim of the right of future generations in a historic 2018 lawsuit brought against the government by several youth from diverse regions across the country. These claims pose what I name as a “chrono-logics” otherwise – temporal alterities that refuse the logics of settler colonial temporality and insist on an ecology of relations that pursue the survival and flourishing of diverse lifeworlds and futures.

One of the most important issues discussed in computer science ineducation involves the professions of the future and the skills thatwill be required of these professionals. This paper discusses a skillthat is among the most important: Computational Thinking (CP).In this scenario, it is still notable the low participation of womenin areas related to technology. As a result, many countries havealready stimulated CP education since basic education. The goalis that future generations can not only operate, but understandhow technology is produced. One of the ways to stimulate CP inbasic education using Computer Science Unplugged (CSU). Themain contribution of this work, unlike others that have alreadyused CSU, was the proposal of a CSU intervention in a playful environment, which considers gamification principles, such as: phases, time, awards, scores, among others, in addition to the constructionof scenarios period and interaction with female scientist characters. The results of the intervention were collected through simplifiedquestionnaires for girls and increased to be quite positive.

is preliminary study of the only extant manuscript of the historical tractate, written by the catholic arcbishop Petar Bogdan Baksič (1601–1674) in Latin and rediscovered in 2017, aims to reveal the methodological principlesof the author, the structure and the historical sources of the text. In the treatise there is evidence about the date of its creation (1666) as well as about the main historical sources used by the author. These sources include some well known historical works written by Caesar Baronius, Antonio Bonfini, Martin Cromer, Mauro Orbini, the popular Luca Wadding’s Annales Minorum, dogmatical works and hagiographical accounts of authors such as Charles Vialart, Sixtus of Siena, Pietro de’ Natali, Ivan Tomko Marnavič, Latin translations of medieval ecclesiastical histories, etc. The article claims that the main goal of the author was to offer a historical account of the catholicism in the Bulgarian lands, mainly in the region around Chiprovez, called "fatherland" by Petar Bogdan. Beginning with a preface, the tractate is divided into seventy chapters with separate titles. The tractate is much more than a work of a scholar: it is a confession of faith by one of the leading Bulgarian intellectuals and spiritual figures of the 17th century. Driven by love for his fellow citizens, Petar Bogdan was committed to leave a meaningful and powerful message for the future generations. This is evidenced for instance by the following words in the preface, quotation from Cicero: Parents are dear; dear are children, relatives, friends; one native land embraces all our loves; and who that is true would hesitate to give his life for her, if by his death he could render her a service (Cic. Off. 1. 57.)?
