Abstract We investigate the ionizing radiation exposure awareness and subject matter knowledge among clinical radiology technicians working in state and private hospitals in Mogadishu, Somalia. Research data are collected via face to face interviews with a prepared questionnaire performed between April and May 2018 in Mogadishu, Somalia. A total of 61 clinical radiology technicians working in 10 state and private hospitals in Mogadishu volunteered to be part of this study. Among the participants, awareness of the harmful effects of ionizing radiation and sufficient subject matter knowledge were lacking. In addition, radiation protection equipment during radiological examinations were not adequately used by clinical radiology technicians. Our results indicate a necessity to retrain and improve the technician education curriculum before and after graduation to create a safer environment both for hospital staff and patients during radiological examinations.

Abstract Objectif : Evaluate the knowledge of medical imaging technicians on the use of dose reduction software and the concept of patient radiation protection.Materials and methods : Descriptive and analytical transversal study from January 1 to December 1, 2020, conducted in the radiology and medical imaging services of Cameroon's public and private hospitals with a CT scanner. It was the first study on this topic that was conducted in Cameroon. This study was conducted from a questionnaire distributed to all medical imaging technicians in 10 country hospitals relating to the notions of dose reduction software and patient radiation protection.Results: 80 questionnaires were distributed and analyzed. The average age of medical imaging technicians was 30 years old. There were 32 women and 48 men. Most of the medical imaging technicians worked in private centers (n = 6). 75% of medical imaging technicians had been in practice for more than 5 years. 75% of medical imaging technicians gave the wrong answer regarding the use of dose reduction software. Finally, only a third of the practitioners had received training in patient radiation protection.Conclusion : Although the majority of medical imaging technicians declares to take into account the dangers related to ionizing radiation during examinations, a broader dissemination of patient radiation protection training and the use of dose reduction software, particularly during the initial curriculum. Radiology technicians could be one of the solutions to improve the knowledge of hospital practitioners in patient radiation protection. However, the use of ionizing radiation, however, need to know and take into account the potential risks of radio-induced cancer linked to high X-ray doses.

Background and Objectives: Radiology technicians have a critical role in protecting patients along with providing high-quality images. The present study assessed radiology students' last semester about the principles of protection, dose level, and cancer risk of ionizing radiation applied for diagnostic imaging. This study was conducted in training hospitals of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz City, Iran. Subjects and Methods This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed using a study-designed questionnaire. The sample size was 40, and statistical analysis was performed in SPSS v. 24. Results Only 15% of students correctly answered the question of ionizing radiation stochastic effect. While 70% of students stated the average dose of an abdominal ultrasound correctly, only 2.5% of them determined the average dose of a myocardial nuclear medicine scan correctly. In total, the respondents received 35% of the overall score of knowledge about cancer risk caused by ionizing radiation of imaging examinations. Conclusion The students' knowledge about the principles of radiation protection was moderate, and their knowledge about the level of radiation dose and cancer risk caused by various imaging procedures was insufficient. Theoretical and practical education has a significant role in improving the knowledge and skills of radiology technicians. So, repeating and emphasizing the principles of radiation protection and paying more attention to these topics in the courses and internships of radiology technology students seems necessary. These measures will improve the performance of students and make them prepared to accept their future professional responsibilities.

Ionizing radiation safety in the medical field, referred to as radiation safety, is an action taken to protect patients, workers, community members, and the environment from the dangers of radiation. One of the efforts to achieve this is by increasing the qualifications of radiation workers in understanding and implementing radiation protection and safety through ionizing radiation safety and security training initiated by the Radiation Protection Officer (PPR) team at Dr. RSUP. Kariadi Semarang. During the current pandemic, implemented the training by modifying what was previously done using face-to-face and field practice into online delivery of material and making videos as a substitute for field practice. As a result, these activities can run well and smoothly. The impression from the training participants stated that this training was beneficial and should be done regularly. <p>Many states and municipalities today require the completion of <em>10-hr Construction Outreach Training</em> as a prerequisite for entrance into jobsites. Over 500,000 workers received the OSHA Construction Outreach Training in FY 2013. Rutgers OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) recruited a cohort of Construction Outreach Trainers to administer a survey to their students to identify their motivations for attending the trainings, the knowledge gained in certain subject areas and how the students expected to practically apply the knowledge gained in the training to actual worksites. A majority of the over 600 students participating in the study demonstrated a significant depth in subject matter knowledge and practical ability to connect hazard controls to effectively mitigate risks. Students were able to identify deficiencies at their workplaces regarding the lack of hazard-specific training and various administrative controls. This study also identified several issues concerning the length of time trainers currently allocate for the safety and health topics and some strategies to realign these durations to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of various trainings.</p>

Private scientific organizations exert a great deal of influence in the regulation of some technological risks. The high level of expertise of their members is arguably a good reason for them to participate in making and monitoring risk regulations, in order to adjust these to scientific progress. Nevertheless, there are also sound reasons why governments shouldn’t uncritically follow the views expressed by such organizations. Taking the role played by the International Commission on Non–Ionizing Radiation Protection in the regulation of electromagnetic fields as an illustrative example, this paper shows that private scientific organizations such as these are structurally less well suited than democratic authorities when it comes to managing those risks.

The review systematized the current data on new classes of pharmacological compounds and biologically active substances in the field of radiation protection in Ukraine, as well as abroad. Methodological approaches and the importance of using appropriate animal models in the development of new pharmacological drugs for radiation protection are described, specifically in the cases when it is impossible to conduct full clinical trials on patients. Current views on the division of pharmacological agents into radioprotectors, radiomitigators, and therapeutic radiation protection agents are examined. The changes in the hematopoietic tissue, gastrointestinal tract and neurovascular system that occur after acute radiation exposure are also described. Particular attention is paid to pharmacological agents that can protect against acute exposure to ionizing radiation by limiting the risk of radiation mortality from the hematological and gastrointestinal forms of radiation syndrome. Results of the effectiveness of tolerant antioxidants with a wide spectrum of biological activity as promising agents for the prevention of acute and delayed radiation-induced pathology, in particular, in lung tissue, are presented. Possible molecular mechanisms of the radioprotective effect of pharmacological compounds on experimental models of total and local radiation exposure are discussed. The effectiveness of the therapeutic use of growth factors and recombinant cytokines in acute bone marrow suppression аfter accidental radiation exposure is shown. The possibilities of cell therapy with myeloid progenitor cells mobilized by tocopherol succinate hematopoietic/progenitor cells and bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells in acute radiation injuries are shown. Special attention is paid to the importance of improving such methodological approaches and regulatory requirements when introducing into practice new radiation protection facilities in Ukraine. Denne artikkelen setter søkelys på fagdidaktikkens plass i veiledningssamtaler med lærerstudenter og nyutdannede lærere. Utgangspunktet er to studier der tematikken i veiledningssamtaler ble undersøkt gjennom språkets utpekende funksjon. Orientering rundt fagdidaktikk var lite framtredende i disse samtalene, og i stedet dominerte generelle didaktiske spørsmål. Forskningsspørsmålene innebærer en undring over hvorfor forhold ved fagene ikke blir tydeligere uttrykt i yrkesfaglig veiledning, og samtidig stiller jeg spørsmål om hvordan veiledning eventuelt kan bidra til at fagdidaktiske spørsmål blir belyst. Jeg hevder at noviser trenger hjelp til å rette blikket mot vesentlige spørsmål som gjelder yrkesutøvelsen, der også fagdidaktikk må inngå. En mer pågående veilederrolle enn det som ser ut til å være dagens praksis, blir av den grunn foreslått og diskutert.Nøkkelord: yrkesfaglig veiledning, læringspotensial, didaktikk, fagdidaktikk, språkets utpekende funksjon, veilederrollenAbstractThis article highlights subject matter knowledge in mentoring conversations and takes its point of departure in two studies where the topics in mentoring conversations were investigated through the use language. General didactic concerns dominated the conversations at the expense of themes related to subject matter. Astonishment about this fact led to the research questions focusing on the reasons for the lack of concerns about subject matter knowledge in mentoring. How mentoring eventually can contribute in giving subjects, a more prominent position in such conversations is discussed. Novices need help to keep the importance of subject matter knowledge in mind when discussing the most substantial questions in teaching. A more dynamic mentor role is suggested and discussed.Key words: mentoring, didactics, role of mentor teacher
