Introduction: Climate conditions may have influence on the transmission of COVID-19. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the impact of temperature and relative humidity on COVID-19 cases and deaths during the initial phase of the epidemic in Brazil. Methodology: This is an ecological study based on secondary data. Daily data on new COVID-19 cases and deaths and on climate indicators was collected from February 20th to April 18th, 2020 (n=59 days), for all state capital cities in Brazil and the Federal District (Brasilia). The studied climate indicators included mean temperature, temperature amplitude, mean relative humidity, relative humidity amplitude, and percentage of days with mean relative humidity less than or equal to 65%. Correlation and multiple linear regression analysis were performed for all cities and was also stratified by quintiles of the COVID-19 incidence rate. Results: Mean daily temperature was positively correlated with the number of days until the first COVID-19 case was reported. A lower mean relative humidity was correlated with lower number of cases and deaths in Brazil, especially when the relative humidity was less than or equal to 65%. Higher temperatures and humidity amplitudes were correlated with lower COVID-19 mortality. Additionally, after controlling for humidity, cumulative cases of COVID-19 were inversely associated with temperature in cities with mean temperatures less than 25.8 degrees Celsius. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that variations in temperature and humidity across the Brazilian territory may have influenced the spread of the novel coronavirus during the initial phase of the epidemic in the country.

The study examined the impact of sound corporate governance on economic growth in Zimbabwe using an econometric model. A multiple linear regression analysis was employed to examine the relationship. Secondary data for the period 1968 to 2015 was collected from World Bank’s Worldwide Governance and World Development Indicators databases. It was found that sound corporate governance is significantly correlated to economic growth in Zimbabwe in a positive and negative manner with a p-value of 0.000023235 at 5% level of confidence. On one hand, control of corruption is negatively significantly related to economic growth and, on the other hand, political stability and absence of violence/terrorism positively significantly related to economic growth. Government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law and voice and accountability are insignificant in influencing economic growth in Zimbabwe at 5% level of significance. The findings from this article will assist policy formulation, policy implementation and future research. This article, however, is of great importance to government, private sector and the academia.

This study aims to determine the effect of rupiah exchange rate on the US dollar (US dollar) and inflation on Mudharabah deposits of Islamic banking in Indonesia. This research is a descriptive quantitative study with secondary data. This study took samples at Islamic Commercial Banks and Islamic Business Units from January 2013 to December 2017. The analysis technique used was multiple linear regression analysis. Before conducting regression testing, the data were tested by classical assumption test, namely normality test, multicollinearity test, autocorrelation test, and heteroscedasticity test. The results in this study are the first rupiah exchange rate has a significant effect on Mudharabah deposits in a positive direction. This means that if rupiah exchange rate increases the impact on community activities in investing in Mudharabah deposits increases. The second is that iinflation has no significant effect on Mudharabah deposits, but has a relationship with a positive direction. This means that if the inflation increases, the impact on community activities in investing Mudharabah deposits also increases. Third, rupiah exchange rate and inflations are simultaneously affect on the Mudharabah deposits of Islamic banking in the amount of 59.9%. The implication is that the high rupiah exchange rate situation attracts investors to invest in Mudharabah deposits. The increase in the rupiah against the US dollar tends to cause multiplier effect which results in rising prices of commodity goods. High prices of commodity goods cause macro consumption to decrease, too because people tend to be efficient in consumption.
