Abstract We study evolution equations describing jet propagation through quark-gluon plasma (QGP). In particular we investigate the contribution of momentum transfer during branching and find that such a contribution is sizeable. Furthermore, we study various approximations, such as the Gaussian approximation and the diffusive approximation to the jet-broadening term. We notice that in order to reproduce the BDIM equation (without the momentum transfer in the branching) the diffusive approximation requires a very large value of the jet-quenching parameter $$ \hat{q} $$ q ̂ .

AbstractThe progress over the 30 years since the first high-energy heavy-ion collisions at the BNL-AGS and CERN-SPS has been truly remarkable. Rigorous experimental and theoretical studies have revealed a new state of the matter in heavy-ion collisions, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Many signatures supporting the formation of the QGP have been reported. Among them are jet quenching, the non-viscous flow, direct photons, and Debye screening effects. In this article, selected signatures of the QGP observed at RHIC and the LHC are reviewed.

In the first part of this work we study the color coherence phenomenon by considering the well-known quark-antiquark antenna with an in-medium hard gluon emission and an extra very soft emission outside it—double antenna. By discussing the coherence effects in terms of the survival probability, we generalize previous studies of the antenna radiation to the case of more than two emitters. After providing support to the jet quenching picture with effective emitters in the QCD cascade, we present a novel setup of an antenna splitting inside the medium taking into account the finite formation time of the dipole, which turns out to be an important scale. We read into the role of coherence and the relevant time scales which control the scenario, while also providing theoretical support for vacuum-like emissions early in the medium. Finally, by mapping the spectrum of in-medium splittings through the corresponding kinematical Lund diagram, we appreciate regimes of a close correspondence to a semi-classical description.

A calculation ofR2corrections to the jet quenching parameter from AdS/CFT correspondence is presented. It is shown that these corrections will increase or decrease the jet quenching parameter depending on the coefficients of the high curvature terms.
