Logic-based switching adaptive control scheme is proposed for the model of DC-DC buck converter in presence of uncertain parameters and power supply disturbance. All uncertain parameters and the disturbance are estimated together through constructing Lyapunov function. And a switching mechanism is used to ensure global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system. The results of simulation show that even if there are multiple unknown parameters in the small-signal model, the control system of DC-DC buck converter can estimate unknown parameters quickly and accurately.

In the paper, we show that for a class of linear plants, although the common linear control can be used to stabilize them, the step responses of the resulting closed-loop systems must have overshoot; however, a simple switching between them may avoid the overshoot. This indicates that switching control may overcome the performance limitation of linear feedback control in the overshoot-avoidance respect. A simple switching control scheme with such a quality is exploited and the conditions for its existence are presented. In the scheme, two common controllers are needed and they are only required to guarantee no overshoot on the time intervals [0, ts) and [ts, ∞), respectively, where ts denotes the switching time. For actual implementation, a state-dependent version of the switching control law is developed. Two examples are presented to show its effectiveness.

In this paper, the output voltage of a buck power converter is controlled by means of a quasi-sliding scheme. The Fixed Point Inducting Control (FPIC) technique is used for the control design, based on the Zero Average Dynamics (ZAD) strategy, including load estimation by means of the Least Mean Squares (LMS) method. The control scheme is tested in a Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) system based on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for dSPACE platform. The closed loop system shows adequate performance. The experimental and simulation results match. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce the load estimator by means of LMS, to make ZAD and FPIC control feasible in load variation conditions. In addition, comparison results for controlled buck converter with SMC, PID and ZAD–FPIC control techniques are shown.

An efficient power management control for microgrids with energy storage is presented in this paper. The proposed control scheme increases the reliability and resiliency of the microgrid based on three distributed energy resources (DERs), namely Photovoltaic (PV), battery, and diesel generator with local active loads. Coordination among the DERs with energy storage is essential for microgrid management. The system model and the control strategy were developed in Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). Decoupled d-q current control strategy is proposed and implemented for voltage source converters (VSCs) used to interface the PV and battery sources to the AC grid. A dc-dc buck converter with a maximum power point tracking function is implemented to maximize the intermittent energy generation from the PV array. A controller is proposed and employed for both grid connected and island modes of operation. In grid connected mode, the system frequency and voltage are regulated by the grid. During a fault in island mode, the diesel generator controls the system frequency and voltage in isochronous mode. Results based on the real time digital simulator are provided to verify the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
