To provide an efficient process for the final disposal of radioactive wastes, some nuclear sites are currently building suitable, temporary stores for such material. This paper describes the practical construction programme recently completed at a UK power reactor site under decommissioning. This site has a number of half height ISO containers filled with solid radioactive material that needed a temporary storage area before being consigned for final disposal. As a result, the site, Hunterston A Decommissioning Site, needed to construct some temporary radiation shield walls to contain the half height ISO containers (HHISO) and safeguard staff and public during the storage period. The chosen location of the temporary store was the Charge Machine Maintenance Building (CMMB), which was surplus to requirements during the decommissioning programme, providing a weatherproof environment. Following an in-depth study of the different forms of construction available, the commercially available, hollow, interlocking polyethylene block system was adopted. Because of its modular form, it has the advantage that it can to be dismantled and re-used at other locations, if required. Being hollow, the block could be filled with a variety of materials, such as water, sand, lead or iron shot, depending on the radioactive shielding needs. An important aspect of the modular plastic block was that it could be more easily installed, decontaminated and decommissioned than the cheaper concrete block system, which produces copious quantities of waste for disposal. This paper describes the choice of interlocking block shielding after comparisons with more conventional forms of construction, the features of the HHISO store design, the short duration building programme and the on-site experiences of the construction period.

The research is aimed at finding rational values of container terminal parameters. Lifting and transport machines are compared with each other from the position of storage area capacity. The results allow estimating the terminal throughput capacity depending on the technical equipment of the site and the storage period of containers. The aim of the research is to improve the search for rational values of the container terminal parameters. Due to the given research mathematical models of the interrelation of the fundamental values of parameter sites of the basic storage of the container terminal equipped with reach stacker offered by Kalmar companies. Dependencies of a platform capacity on length of a storage site are resulted. Also in research results of processing ability of the container terminal in a year are resulted.

Abstract The CASTOR® BR3 cask has been designed and manufactured to accomodate irradiated fuel (U and MOX) from the BR3 test reactor at the nuclear research centre SCK/CEN in Dessel near Mol, Belgium, which is currently being dismantled. The CASTOR® BR3 is designed as a Type B(U)F package for transport and will be licensed in Belgium. In addition, the CASTOR® BR3 needs a license as a storage cask to be operated in an interim cask storage facility. To obtain these licenses, the cask design has to observe the international regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material as well as the special requirements for the cask storage. The CASTOR® BR3 is a member of the CASTOR® family of spent fuel casks, delivered by the German company GNB. In this way, the cask has such typical features as the following: • monolithic cask body made of ductile cast iron; • double-lid system consisting of primary and secondary lid for long-term interim storage of the fuel. This family of casks has been used for over 20 years for transport and storage of spent fuel. In this paper, the IAEA regulatory requirements for transport casks are summarized and it is shown by selected examples how these requirements have been converted into the cask design and the analyses performed for the cask. Finally, the cask features for an interim storage period of up to 50 years will be spotlighted. Main topics are the evaluation of the long term behaviour of selected cask components and the cask monitoring system for the surveillance of the leak tightness of the cask during the storage period.

The cells which are described in this study surround the salivary nerve of the terrestrial mollusc, Limax maximus. The salivary system of Limax consists of bilateral glands, ducts, and nerves. The salivary nerves originate at the buccal ganglia, which are situated on the posterior face of the buccal mass, and run along the salivary duct to the gland. The salivary nerve branches several times near the gland, and eventually sends processes into the gland. The pore cells begin to appear at the first large branch point of the salivary nerve, near the gland (Figure 1). They follow the nerve distally and eventually accompany the nerve branches into the gland tissue. The cells are 20-50 microns in diameter and contain very small nuclei (1-5 microns) (Figure 2).The cytoplasm of the pore cells is segregated into a storage area of glycogen and an organelle region located in a band around the cell periphery (Figure 3).

SummaryStorage experiments were performed at 4°, 25° and 37° C with platelet-rich plasma under sterile conditions. In some experiments also the effect of storing platelets at 4° C in whole blood was investigated. Before, during and after three days of storage, the platelets were tested at 37° C for their serotonin uptake and response to hypotonic shock. In addition some glycolytic intermediates were determined.A fair correlation was noticed between the serotonin uptake and hypotonic shock experiments. Both parameters were best maintained at 25° C. Also platelet counting, performed after the storage period, indicated 25° C as the best storage temperature. Determination of glycolytic intermediates did not justify any conclusion regarding the optimal storage temperature. Of the various anticoagulants studied, ACD and heparin gave the best results as to the serotonin uptake and hypotonic shock response, either with fresh or stored platelets. The use of EDTA resulted in the lowest activity, especially after storage. The results of these storage experiments in vitro, correspond well with those in vivo reported in the literature.

SummaryPharmacokinetics of intravenously injected 125I-labeled urokinase (125I-UK) of a molecular weight of 33,000 daltons in normal rabbits and patients with various diseases were investigated. The plasma clearance of 125I-UK in rabbits was described by a biexponential curve within six hours with a half-life of 8 minutes, 2.3 hours, respectively. The radioactivity in the liver and kidneys 15 minutes after iv injection with 125I-UK was 9.6% and 14.0% of the radioactivity injected, respectively. Approximately 80% of the total radioactive material injected was excreted in the urine in 18 hours. No increase in activator activity in the urine was observed after a large amount of UK injection. Activity uptake of 125I-UK by experimentally induced arterial thrombus was little. Lysis of the stasis thrombus was produced by injecting 7.5 × 104 IU of UK in only one out of 8 rabbits. In vitro contact experiment revealed that transfer of 125I-UK to plasma clot is slow (24 hours for 10% of 125I-UK by plasma clot). In 4 patients plasma clearance of 125I-UK was essentially similar to that in rabbits. From the results obtained optimal dosage regimen of UK administration for complete thrombolysis in vivo was discussed.

ABSTRACT Hinduism has three basic frameworks, namely tattwa, ethics and ceremonies. All three do not stand alone, but a unity carried out by Hindus. If only the philosophy of religion is known without carrying out moral teachings and ceremonies, it is not perfect. In implementing the yadnya Hindus cannot escape the three basic frameworks. Yadnya which means worshiping, respecting, sacrificing sincerely, serving, doing good in the form of what is owned for the welfare and perfection of living together and the glory of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa. By implementing yadnya, Hindus in Bali believe that they can get closer to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa as a belief in scales and also the existence of debt, namely Rna. There are three types of debts, namely the God of Rna, namely the debt of life to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the pitra rna, which is service debt to the ancestors and the rna, namely the sacred debt to rsi. With this feeling of debt, it is only natural that the debt be paid, manifested in the yad ceremony. By implementing yad it can connect itself with Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa. Through these facilities can be embedded a sense of gratitude to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa. The ceremony of Aci Penaung Bayu is included in the ceremony of Dewa Yadnya, especially the worship of the Almighty God in his manifestation as Lord Vishnu, the god who cares for the universe and all its contents. This research was conducted to answer the following problems: (1) how is the process of carrying out the ceremony of acu pening bayu ?, (2) what is the function of the ceremony of acu pening bayu ?, (3) what educational values are contained in the aci penung bayu ceremony ?. The theories used to solve this research problem are structural functional theory, religious theory, and value theory.  This research is in the form of a qualitative design with a phenomological approach. Data was collected using observation techniques, interview techniques, library techniques, and documentation techniques. After the data is collected, the data is analyzed by checking the validity of the data. Based on the analysis, conclusions were obtained as a result of the study, as follows: (1) the process of carrying out the aci penung bayu ceremony began with the nedunang ceremony of Ida Bhatara from the storage area (penataran agung), after which the ceremony of aci penung bayu, and finally the nyineb ceremony Ida Bhatara (stored to return storage) (2) Function of carrying out the Bayu Aci Penaung ceremony is a religious function, social integration function, energizing function. (3) The values of Hinduism education contained in the ceremony of Aci Penaung Bayu are the educational value of Tri Hita Karana.
