Abstract If real and imaginary parts of a function of a complex variable are interpreted as velocity potential and stream function, then real and imaginary parts of the kth derivatives are the (k–1) st derivatives of the velocity components in the direction of the real and negative imaginary axis. For slightly cambered profiles that deviate little from the real axis and have the shape of a polynomial of nth order, the imaginary part of the nth derivative of the complex potential is constant in first-order approximation. It is easy to establish such functions of the complex variable in the case of single as well as cascade profiles. Integration then yields the intended results. While there is no continuing need for such a method for single profiles, it is needed for cascades of profiles.

The successive time derivatives of relative entropy and entropy production for a system with a reversible first-order reaction alternate in sign. It is proved that the relative entropy for reactions with an equilibrium constant smaller than or equal to one is completely monotonic in the whole definition interval, and for reactions with an equilibrium constant larger than one this function is completely monotonic at the beginning of the reaction and near to equilibrium.

AbstractIn this study, a novel method for the synthesis of hybrid, porous microspheres, including divinylbenzene (DVB), triethoxyvinylsilane (TEVS) and methacrylated lignin (L-Met), is presented. The methacrylic derivatives of kraft lignin were obtained by reaction with methacryloyl chloride according to a new experimental protocol. The course of the modification of lignin was confirmed by attenuated total reflectance (ATR-FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The emulsion-suspension polymerization method was employed to obtain copolymers of DVD, TEVS and L-Met in spherical forms. The porous structures and morphologies of the obtained lignin-containing functionalized microspheres were investigated by low-temperature nitrogen adsorption data and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microspheres are demonstrated to be mesoporous materials with specific surface areas in the range of 430–520 m2/g. The effects of the lignin component on the porous structure, shape, swelling and thermal properties of the microspheres were evaluated.

New approach to the preparation of steroids with connecting bridge, based on an O-carboxymethyloxime (CMO) structure, and with terminal hydroxy group, is presented. 17-CMO derivatives of 3β-acetoxy- and 3β-methoxymethoxyandrost-5-en-17-one were condensed with α,ω-amino alcohols to give derivatives with a chain of seven to nine atoms. After THP-protection, these compounds were converted to 3-keto-4-ene derivatives. An alternative synthesis consisted in transformation of 17-CMO derivatives with bonded amino acids by reduction of the terminal carboxyl. The resulting compounds were designed as building blocks for the preparation of bis-haptens for sandwich immunoassays.

Abstract A new approach was carried out with the spent mushroom substrate (SMS) of Pleurotus florida on ferrous iron (Fe2+) removal using live, dead and pretreated substrate. In this study, the various dosage levels of SMS namely, 0.25, 0.50, 1.0 and 1.50 g/50 mL were used for the removal of Fe2+ at different time intervals for 90 min. The effect of various temperatures and pH on Fe2+ removal was studied with optimized dosages and time intervals. The biosorption potential of P. florida SMS was checked against the iron-contaminated groundwater collected from in and around Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri districts of Tamil Nadu. The biosorption data were obtained and analyzed in terms of their kinetic behavior. Among the SMS of P. florida, the live SMS showed potential Fe2+ removal (100%) from aqueous metal solution in all the tested concentrations. SMS of P. florida showed high potential removal of Fe2+ in neutral pH, at room temperature and explored an efficient sorption ability (100%) in the tested water sample (SW10). The adsorption kinetic values fitted very well with pseudo-second-order when comparing with pseudo-first-order reaction. FTIR, SEM and EDX analysis proved the accumulation of Fe2+ by the SMS. The present study confirmed that the live SMS of P. florida may serve as a potential and eco-friendly biosorbent for removal of Fe2+ from the iron-contaminated water. Graphic abstract

One of the mathematical models describing the behavior of two horizontally infinite adjoining layers of an ideal incompressible liquid under a solid cover moving at different speeds is investigated. At a large difference in the layer velocities, the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability occurs, which leads to a distortion of the interface. At the initial point in time, the interface is not necessarily flat. From a mathematical point of view, the behavior of the liquid layers is described by a system of four quasilinear equations, either hyperbolic or elliptic, in partial derivatives of the first order. Some type shallow water equations are used to construct the model. In the simple version of the model considered in this paper, in the spatially one-dimensional case, the unknowns are the boundary between the liquid layers h(x,t) and the difference in their velocities γ(x,t). The main attention is paid to the case of elliptic equations when |h|<1 and γ>1. An evolutionary Cauchy problem with arbitrary sufficiently smooth initial data is set for the system of equations. The explicit dependence of the Riemann invariants on the initial variables of the problem is indicated. To solve the Cauchy problem formulated in terms of Riemann invariants, a variant of the hodograph method based on a certain conservation law is used. This method allows us to convert a system of two quasilinear partial differential equations of the first order to a single linear partial differential equation of the second order with variable coefficients. For a linear equation, the Riemann-Green function is specified, which is used to construct a two-parameter implicit solution to the original problem. The explicit solution of the problem is constructed on the level lines (isochrons) of the implicit solution by solving a certain Cauchy problem for a system of ordinary differential equations. As a result, the original Cauchy problem in partial derivatives of the first order is transformed to the Cauchy problem for a system of ordinary differential equations, which is solved by numerical methods. Due to the bulkiness of the expression for the Riemann-Green function, some asymptotic approximation of the problem is considered, and the results of calculations, and their analysis are presented.

We give fourth-order accurate implicit methods for the computation of the first-order spatial derivatives and second-order mixed derivatives involving the time derivative of the solution of first type boundary value problem of two dimensional heat equation. The methods are constructed based on two stages: At the first stage of the methods, the solution and its derivative with respect to time variable are approximated by using the implicit scheme in Buranay and Arshad in 2020. Therefore, Oh4+τ of convergence on constructed hexagonal grids is obtained that the step sizes in the space variables x1, x2 and in time variable are indicated by h, 32h and τ, respectively. Special difference boundary value problems on hexagonal grids are constructed at the second stages to approximate the first order spatial derivatives and the second order mixed derivatives of the solution. Further, Oh4+τ order of uniform convergence of these schemes are shown for r=ωτh2≥116,ω>0. Additionally, the methods are applied on two sample problems.

In this paper, we present a new approach to solving second order nonconvex perturbed sweeping process in finite dimensional setting. It consists in a reduction of the problem to a first order one without use of the standard methods of fixed point theory. The perturbation, that is the external force applied on the system is not necessary with bounded values.
