Ephedra aurea, a new species occurring in Sicily, is described and illustrated. Taxonomically, it shows close relationships with Ephedra nebrodensis mainly for the small size with internodes scabrous-wrinkled not fragile at the nodes, but relevant differences regarding the size and shape of twigs, leaves, male and female cones, ovules, seeds, fruiting strobili and pollen grains allow to distinguish very well the two species. Its ecology, conservation status and relationships with other allied Mediterranean species are discussed.

A new species, Cephalaria kurdistanica, from Chehel-Cheshmeh mountain, west of Iran, is here described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically related to C. microcephala Boiss., C. procera Fisch. & Avé-Lall., and C. kotschyi Boiss. & Hohen., but it differs in chiefly stem size, size and shape of capitula, the number of phyllaries, shape of upper part of phyllaries, calyx shape and indumentum, and size of bristles of receptacle. As well as detailed description, distribution map, conservation status and ecology of the new species are given.

Verbascum seydisehirense (Scrophulariaceae), endemic to the Konya region of Central Anatolia, is described as new species based on the plant’s morphological features. The new species is morphologically similar to Verbascum phrygium, but it differs from it for basal leaf shape, calyx size, corolla size, corolla indumentum and glands, and capsule shape and size. In this study, a detailed description, illustration, distribution map, conservation status and ecology of the new species are provided. Additionally, the study looks in detail at pollen grains and seed coat ornamentation of Verbascum seydisehirense and includes SEM micrographs.

A new species of Cephalaria, C. bigazzii Bacch., Brullo & Giusso (Dipsacaceae), is described and illustrated. It is a typical chasmophyte, exclusive to a small area of SW Sardinia where it grows together with several other rare endemics. It belongs to the Cephalaria squamiflora group, showing close relationships with C. mediterranea and C. balearica. Its ecology, distribution and conservation status are examined. A distribution map of the new species and related species is provided. A new status and combination is proposed for Cephalaria ebusitana.

A new perennial species, Silene nemrutensis (Silene sect. Spergulifoliae, Caryophyllaceae), is described and illustrated from SE-Anatolia. A macromorphological comparison with the similar species S. arguta is given as well as the ultrastructure of the seeds and pollen grains. Original photographs, geographical distribution, habitat and IUCN conservation status are also provided.

Allium nazarenum, a new species of A. sect. Codonoprasum, is described and illustrated from Israel. Within this species, two well distinct subspecies have been recognized, represented by the subsp. nazarenum and subsp. ramonense respectively. The first one occurs in northern and central Israel, which falls within the Mediterranean bioclimate, while the second one is circumscribed to the Negev desert. Both taxa are diploid with 2n = 16 and are found on various substrata usually in the batha or steppic plant communities. This species shows close relationships with the species belonging to the A. staticiforme group, from which it differs in several relevant diacritic features. Its morphology, karyology, leaf anatomy, ecology, conservation status and taxonomical relationships are examined.

A new species of Hechtia (Bromeliaceae, Hechtioideae) from the Mexican State of Jalisco and the physiogeographical province of the Pacific Lowlands, H. santanae, is proposed as new herein. A description is provided, based on male and female plants, including fruits. Specimens of the new species had been identified previously as H. laevis L. B. Smith, a species native of the neighboring state of Colima. Photographs showing diagnostic characters and details of the habitat, and an assessment of the conservation status of the new taxon, based upon the B criteria of the IUCN, are also included.

A new species, Conchocarpus hendrixii (tribe Galipeinae, Rutaceae), is described and illustrated. To date, this new species is known from populations observed in the municipalities of Cardoso Moreira and São Fidélis in Serra da Bandeira/Serra da Vista mountain ranges in northern Rio de Janeiro state in the Atlantic Rainforest biome and was brought to light as an undescribed species thanks to photographs shared on the social media site Facebook. The epithet “hendrixii” is in honor of Jimi Hendrix, guitarist and singer-songwriter, who wrote the song “Purple Haze,” in reference to the purple color of the flowers of the new species. Analyzes showed that flowers of the new species bear a staminal tube, a characteristic present only in C. odoratissimus among the Conchocarpus. However, this species bears flowers with much shorter staminal tubes (c. 2–2.5 mm in length v. 1–1.2 cm in the new species) and smaller flowers, among other morphologically dissimilar characteristics. Molecular phylogenetic analysis using nuclear (ITS-1 and IT-2) and plastidial markers (trnL-trnF and rps16 intron) were conducted and demonstrated that the new species belongs to an internal clade in Conchocarpus, together with species formerly assigned to Almeidea (currently included in Conchocarpus). The presence of pantoporate pollen grains, a synapomorphic trait to this clade supports the molecular results. Conservation status as well as data from foliar and floral (with an emphasis on the staminal tube) anatomy are presented.

Strobilanthes hongii, a new species of Acanthaceae is described and illustrated from Libo, Guizhou, China. The new species is similar to S. pateriformis and S. truncata, but differs by the characters of leaf blade, bracteole and calyx and pollen grains. The new species is plietesial and grows in forest on limestone hills. The conservation status of S. hongii is assessed as “Vulnerable (VU)” according to the IUCN red list categories and criteria.

The surprising discovery of a population of a new species of Antirrhineae (Plantaginaceae) has also given rise to the description of a new genus situated in the subtribe Maurandyinae: Gadoria falukei. This is supported by the characteristics of the flower, pollen grains, seeds and capsule, and phylogenetic results based on DNA sequences. The species is endemic from Sierra de Gádor, Almería, Spain. Scanning electron microscopy was used to explore micromorphology of the capsule, indument, and seed and pollen grains ornamentation. Additionally, chromosomal number, preliminary insights on reproductive biology, phylogenetic position within Antirrhineae, ecological data and conservation status of the new species are provided.

A new species, Artabotrys sericeus Sujana & Vadhyar, is described from Tamil Nadu, India. The new species shows some resemblance to Artabotrys zeylanicus Hook.f. & Thomson, but it can be easily distinguished by the shape, size, colour and indumentum of the petals as well as the shape and texture of the monocarps. Illustrations, photographs and SEM images of the pollen grains of the new species are provided. The conservation status of the new species is also assessed.
