The study sample consists of participants as the patient, patient relatives, and nurse. In our study, a significant relationship was found between the ages of patients, and fear of death, avoidance of death, accepting approach, non-acceptance, and the DAP-R scale total score. A positive moderate correlation was found between the fear of death and death avoidance among my nurses who participated in the study. The nurse, the patient, and patient relatives had a good perception of death and had a higher attitude toward death. Additionally, that found to nurses’ fear of death and death avoidance behavior are higher than patients and their relatives.

Abstract Background Artificial nutrition and hydration do not prolong survival or improve clinical symptoms of terminally ill cancer patients. Nonetheless, little is known about the effect of artificial hydration (AH) alone on patients’ survival, symptoms or quality of dying. This study explored the relationship between AH and survival, symptoms and quality of dying among terminally ill cancer patients. Methods A pilot prospective, observational study was conducted in the palliative care units of three tertiary hospitals in Taiwan between October 2016 and December 2017. A total of 100 patients were included and classified into the hydration and non-hydration group using 400 mL of fluid per day as the cut-off point. The quality of dying was measured by the Good Death Scale (GDS). Multivariate analyses using Cox’s proportional hazards model were used to assess the survival status of patients, the Wilcoxon rank-sum test for within-group analyses and the Mann-Whitney U test for between-groups analyses to evaluate changes in symptoms between day 0 and 7 in both groups. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the predictors of a good death. Results There were no differences in survival (p = 0.337) or symptom improvement between the hydration and non-hydration group, however, patients with AH had higher GDS scores. Conclusions AH did not prolong survival nor significantly improve dehydration symptoms of terminally ill cancer patients but it may influence the quality of dying. Communication with patients and their families on the effect of AH may help them better prepared for the end-of-life experience.

Chemotherapy causes various side effects that can affect the patient's physical or non-physical condition. Patients' perceptions or ratings of these side effects vary. This study aimed to identify cancer patients' perceptions of the side effects of chemotherapy they are undergoing. The descriptive study was conducted on 84 samples, namely cancer patients aged 20 years who had undergone chemotherapy at least once before. Data collection using a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out descriptively with frequency distribution. The results showed that the perception of the physical side effects of chemotherapy that was considered very disturbing by the patient (severe symptoms) was nausea (59.5%), feeling of weakness (36.9%), hair loss (35.7%), vomiting. (29.8%), loss of appetite (28.6%). %), weight loss (27.4%), insomnia and skin discoloration (19% each), headache (16.7%) and fever (15.5%). When the perception of non-physical side effects was fear of death, affecting work/household duties and feeling fear (15.5% each), feeling anxious about my life, and the presence of family members I have to take care (14.3% each). The most disturbing side effects of chemotherapy are physical problems. The health service is expected to increase interventions to minimize the side effects of chemotherapy.

The present study introduced a personal construct approach to the assessment of threat of death. Two experiments were reported in which the relationship of this measure, referred to as the Threat Index, to a number of self-report variables, the Lester Fear of Death Scale, and the Templer Death Anxiety Scale was investigated. A total of 112 college students participated in the experiments which demonstrated a significant relationship between the Threat Index, self-reported fear of death, conceivability of personal mortality, and the Lester Scale. No significant relationship was found between the Threat Index and belief in afterlife, frequency of thoughts about death or suicide, or the Templer Scale. The possible advantages of the Threat Index procedure were discussed in terms of its relationship with the other measures of death concern, the various self-report variables, and previous criticisms of death concern assessment techniques.

Revolutionary advances in social and medical knowledge and technology have radically changed the conditions which precede death for an increasing number of people. The fear of death is being replaced by the dread of too-prolonged life, a feature of which is a widely documented incidence of both pain and physical and mental distress. This situation has produced the accelerating social demand for euthanasia (a painless inducement of death, preferably by medical means) to be legally available to a suffering person earnestly desiring it. The attitudes of medical workers are ambivalent, trapped as they are between a changing society and intransigent law. Psychiatry, however, and its concern for the whole person, is potentially an ally of those who desire to educate the community to a healthier view of death, even a planned death, as a part of life and a responsible conclusion to it.

Depression in breast cancer patients includes mental shock, inability to accept reality, hopelessness, fear of death, and fear of the future. Depression creates long periods of sadness and worry, usually accompanied by feelings of worthlessness. Fatigue is a symptom that often appears in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Associated with the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, cancer patients have an increased risk of transmitting COVID-19 because they have decreased endurance. This study aims to determine the relationship between depression and fatigue in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Hospital Sultan Agung Semarang Indonesia. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire of the hospitals anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and questionnaire of fatigue, 30 female respondents who suffer from breast cancer and have undergone chemotherapy. Rank Spearman data analysis. P value = 0.000 and correlation coefficient value r = 0.671. There is a relationship between depression and fatigue in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy which has an impact on adherence to chemotherapy for breast cancer patients. The higher the level of depression is, the more severe the level of fatigue in cancer patients.

Pendahaluan. Meningkatnya penderita kanker terminal di Indonesia akan meningkatkan kebutuhan perawatan paliatif dan akhir kehidupan (palliative and end of life care). Simpulan. The goal of the presented research was to investigate if wisdom plays a mediating role in the relationships between meaning in life and the attitude toward death in the period of middle and late adulthood. A study was carried out that included 567 persons aged 40 to 75 years. Three measures were used: Personal Meaning Profile, Three-Dimensional Wisdom Scale, and Death Attitude Profile-Revised. The conducted analyses allowed the authors to confirm the mediating role of wisdom in the relationships between meaning in life and fear of death as well as death avoidance in persons during the period of middle and late adulthood.
