Abstract Background There is increasing concern about the level of violence and people with schizophrenia. However, research about violence in correlation with schizophrenia mostly focuses on patients as offenders rather than victims. Phenomenology was chosen to explore experience of patients with schizophrenia as a victim coping with violence in Indonesia. Results Of the 40 interviewees, average age was 35.8 years old (range 21–43). The 40 patients with schizophrenia comprised 26 males and 14 females. Violence typically included pushing, punching, or kicking, and restrained. The patient’s coping experiences as victims of violence were categorized into three themes: submission (n = 28), expression of anger to object (n = 33), and positive coping strategy (n = 23). Conclusion To shorten the evaluation required to choose coping strategies, domestic violence education/psychoeducation would be relevant.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand strategies used by women involved with alcohol and/or other drugs to cope with domestic violence. Methods: A qualitative study using the theoretical framework of coping strategies proposed by Folkman and Lazarus. 19 women with reports of domestic violence and involvement with alcohol and/or other drugs attended to at Family Health Units in a city of Bahia, Brazil. The data were systematized based on Discourse of the Collective Subject. Results: Given the context of domestic violence and drug use, women confront their partners; they try to have a conversation; they seek family and institutional support and take responsibility and blame for the aggression suffered. Conclusions and implications for practice: The strategies listed may support actions to prevent and cope with the phenomenon, especially from the intersectoral articulation.

Objective: The aim of the present qualitative study was to find out how Pakistani Nurses are experiencing the coping strategies against Corona- Stressor.Background: Corona is the World- Wide stressor for Nurses. The Pakistani Nurses are experiencing this stressor and are coping with it too. The present study is on Coping of Nurses of Pakistan against Corona- Stressor.Method: Narrative variation of qualitative research with conventional content analysis was applied to extract results from open- ended interview questions which were administered on nurses face to face with purposive sampling technique.Results: Six major themes; five of conventional coping strategies and one new coping strategy were used by Nurses against Corona- Stressor.Discussion & Conclusion: Nurses in Pakistan are using Standard Operating Procedures as a new coping strategy against Corona Stressor with the already established conventional coping strategies.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between coping strategies (positive coping, projective coping, non-coping and denial coping), self-efficacy, and fear of losing one’s self-esteem among secondary school students in science course. The study group consisted of 381 students studying in a large city located in the eastern part of Turkey. The data of the study were obtained using Academic Coping, Self-efficacy, Fear of losing one's self-esteem scales. Data were analyzed with the structural equality model using the Amos program, and the proposed relationships between variables were tested. According to the results obtained from the research, it was found that the positive coping and projective coping strategy predicted positively and the non-coping strategy negatively on self-efficacy. Self-efficacy negatively predicted the fear of losing one’s self-esteem. Additionally, positive coping, denial coping, and non-coping strategies were observed to positively predict the fear of losing one's self-esteem. Additionally, positive coping, projective coping, non-coping, and denial coping strategies variables together explained 28% of the variance in self-efficacy. The self-efficacy and all of the coping strategies explained 48% of the variance in fear of losing one’s self-esteem.

Facing stigma on both HIV and sexuality by the larger society puts significant pressure and stress on the LGBTQ living with HIV to cope with their diagnosis. The promotion of coping strategies as an intervention to increase well-being among PLHIV needs to consider current findings to remain relevant. This systematic review took 17 articles from 2008 to 2018 to provide a comprehensive analysis of issues that influenced coping strategies and investigate the association of the chosen coping strategy with their mental health. The results indicated that the impact of double stigma amplifies the challenge faced by the LGBTQ community to deal with their HIV diagnosis and had a significant impact on their mental health wellbeing. Both positive and negative coping styles were present as coping strategies employed with positive coping being used more as a chosen strategy. Each presenting coping strategy was reviewed, with depression and anxiety becoming the baseline indicator to reflect mental health status. This systematic review also revealed that the positive coping strategy does not necessarily lead to a positive psychological state as it is dependent on the changeability of the stressor faced. The findings emphasized the complexities in untangling the influence of coping on wellbeing among PLHIV. More attention should be paid to the mechanisms of stressor appraisal in selecting a more suitable coping strategy.

Objectives: To explore the effect of social support and ability perception on stress coping strategies for competitive stress, and to reveal the mediating effects of primary and secondary evaluation, so as to further improve the theoretical model of stress coping in soccer players.Methods: A total of 331 male athletes from 22 teams in the Chengdu Middle School Campus Football League were taken as survey samples, and surveys were conducted on their stress experience, social support, ability perception, cognitive assessment, and coping strategies for competition stress. SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 statistical analysis software were used. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to process the obtained data.Results: (1) Positive primary assessment acted as a full mediator in the relationship between social support and secondary assessments, and negative primary assessment acted as a partial mediator in the relationship between competence perception and secondary assessments; (2) Secondary assessment played a partial mediating role between positive primary assessment and positive coping strategies, and a full mediating role between negative primary assessment and positive coping strategies; (3) Secondary assessments played the mediator neither between social support and a coping strategy for stress nor competence perception and a coping strategy for stress; (4) Positive primary assessment, positive negative assessment, and secondary assessment all had significant positive benefits for positive coping. Still, the impact of positive primary assessment on positive coping was significantly better than negative primary assessment and secondary assessment.Conclusion: The coping strategy for the competitive stress model proposed by this study has a very good fit for the causal model. It can be used to explain the observed data from soccer players in middle schools. The primary and secondary assessments play different roles in the model. The combination of problem focuses and emotional focus on the positive stress coping strategy is suitable in the field of competitive sports. Still, the relevant research results need to be further explored and verified in the future.

This study aimed to investigate the relationships among mastery goal orientations (approach and avoidance), adaptive coping strategy (positive coping), and motivational beliefs (self-efficacy and task value) among middle school students in science. The study group consists of 249 students studying at four middle schools in one of the largest cities located in the eastern part of Turkey. The research data were collected using Achievement Goals Questionnaire, Academic Coping Inventory, and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was performed using AMOS program to test the hypothesized relationships among constructs. The results showed that individuals with mastery goal orientation used more positive coping strategies. It was observed that individuals with higher self-efficacy had a higher ratio of using positive coping strategies. In addition, individuals with a high level of motivational beliefs used more mastery goal orientation. Furthermore, while mastery goal orientations positively predicted motivational beliefs and positive coping strategies, positive coping strategy was found to predict positively self-efficacy only. This study was a correlational study, but correlational studies did not help the establishment of a cause-effect (causality) relationship between the variables in question. Experimental studies can be conducted in the future to reveal the causes and effects related to the correlation between the relevant variables.

The aim of this research is to assess the coping strategies of physically challenged children. The area of assessment included in physical, emotional and social problems related to their physical disability. Descriptive research design was selected to study the physical, emotional and social problems and its coping strategies of physically challenged children. Purposive sampling technique used for 50 samples of Physically challenged children between the age group of 10-15 years who were educated at the special school in Mangalore. It was reached from the result of the findings that physically challenged children are using negative coping mechanism for social problems related to their physical disability whereas physical and emotional problems related to physical disability most of them are using positive coping mechanism.
