Functional Literacy of a Primary Schoolchildren: Ways to Overcome Difficulties in Its Formation

The article discusses the problem of the formation of functional literacy of primary schoolchildren as the main learning outcome that meets the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Primary General Education. The article reveals the characteristics of the concept of “functional literacy”, which includes two groups of achievements of a younger student - subject and metasubject. The reader gets acquainted with the widespread pedagogical “mistakes” of the teacher, as well as the difficulties that children face in the learning process. The main types of educational activity are determined, which to the greatest extent contribute to the formation of functional literacy of primary schoolchildren, which primarily include search and research activities.

The article discusses the features of building the process of familiarizing elementary schoolchildren with scientific methods of cognition (observation, experience) and their application to obtain new knowledge, solve educational, practical and educational-cognitive problems. This direction of educational activity of schoolchildren implements meta-subject learning outcomes in accordance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Primary General Education, and also forms the basis of natural-scientific functional literacy among younger schoolchildren. On the basis of the author’s study, the principles of adapting scientific methods of cognition for use as ways of organizing learning activities are determined; the main stages of the formation of the ability of students to use scientific methods of cognition in students are identified.

The article reveals the goals and methods of organizing the differential education of primary schoolchildren in mathematics, which involves taking into account the individuality, level of ability and degree of independence of each schoolchild, as well as providing him with timely assistance in case of difficulties. Methods of differentiation and means of assisting students are described, which are used by the teacher in the classroom to solve various types of arithmetic problems. The effectiveness of a differentiated approach to the formation of mathematical literacy of primary schoolchildren is emphasized, which makes it possible to guarantee compliance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Primary General Education with the planned learning outcomes.

The article considers the issue of the formation of functional literacy when conducting mathematics lessons in a secondary school, taking into account the use of intrasubject communications. Methodology and research methods. Research is based on a system-structural and activity-based approach. Results. First of all, attention is paid to the consideration of the concept of functional literacy, the question of assessing the level of development of functional literacy and the means to assess this level of development is considered. Examples of specific tasks of an interdisciplinary nature that are used to determine the level of development of the Federal State Educational Standard of Basic General Education are given. Formal and substantive approaches in mathematics, the possibilities of their application in the framework of intrasubject communications as a means of developing functional literacy of high school students are considered. The issues of synchronization of educational material as a key element in the implementation of intrasubject communications are considered. The practical significance of the work. The directions of changing approaches to the implementation of intrasubject relations of mathematics with other areas of knowledge as the basis for achieving meta-subject educational results of the Federal State Standard of Basic General Education are revealed. The question of the connection of meta-subject educational results as the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of LLC and the functional literacy of students, as well as means of assessing the level of formation of functional literacy, is considered. Particular attention is paid to mathematical literacy as one of the key components of functional literacy. In this regard, examples of tasks from other subject areas are considered that require the use of mathematical literacy as a component of functional literacy as part of the assessment of subject achievements of students. The main recommendations on the implementation of intrasubject communications to achieve meta-subject educational results are formulated.

The article describes the difficulties in the formation of a number of universal educational actions in younger schoolchildren, such as semantic reading, analysis of visual (pictorial) information when mastering the historical material of the course "The World Around". The informational function of a textbook on the subject "The World Around" is considered as the main means of teaching, contributing to the formation of systematized historical ideas among junior schoolchildren. The possibilities of improving the cognitive activity of students in the process of working with textual and visual information of historical content presented in the textbook are revealed, which has a direct impact on the successful acquisition of metasubject skills by primary schoolchildren, stated in the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Primary General Education for learning outcomes.

The article presents the testing results of educational module “Individualization and Personalization of Educational Work with Students of Different Types” in pedagogical master program, Teacher education (secondary general education teacher) training direction. The module based on the professional direction, involving the connection of the objectives, content, forms, tools, and educational results with the main educational results according to Federal State Educational standard, as well as the content of different professional activities of future teachers of secondary education, are contained in the professional standards of the teacher. We characterized the structure and content of module subjects, the kinds of master educational activity organization, assessment tools which were used for the module educational outcomes (competencies, job functions and teacher activity) in master students. The article describes the changes and updates that have been made in teaching and guidance documents on the results of the module testing and presents the perspectives of module in master students training.

To Russian education’s numerous innovations a one more — global — is added since 2011. This is the Federal State Educational Standard (hereinafter referred to as FSES) of primary general education, main general education, secondary (complete) general education. To that block of administrative problems which were solved already by the teacher, will be added ensuring of development of universal educational actions, i.e. ability to study, personality’s capability to self-development and self-improvement by conscious and active assignment of new social experience. It is an actual and new task will reflect onto all elements of educational system, its subsystems, as well as in processes, which are proceeding in the educational system. The teacher should look for new techniques, technologies, models of educational activity organization. All this will be discussed in the paper.

The article discusses the possibilities of using a differentiated approach to teaching the Russian language, which takes into account both the stage of mastering the subject content and the degree of individual preparation of each student, his abilities, interests, needs, motivation. The authors determined the specifics of modeling tasks of the basic and increased levels of complexity, which allow, based on the knowledge gained and the speech experience of junior schoolchildren as native speakers, to successfully form their universal educational actions (cognitive, communicative, regulatory), which meets the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of the Primary General Education to the planned subject and metasubject learning outcomes. The examples of differentiated tasks aimed at the development of speech-thinking abilities, logical thinking, cognitive skills, and skills of independent educational activity are presented.
