Introduction. The quality of wastewater treatment in settlements is an important task of our time. To assess the efficiency of treatment plants in a particular city often use the hydrochemical parameters of the reservoir into which the treated wastewater is discharged. The paper describes the modern sewerage system of the city of Ternopil and the technological process of operation of citywide sewage treatment plants (STP). The purpose of the work is to find out how effectively the Ternopil STP work and whether their activity poses a danger to the Seret River and the inhabitants of coastal settlements. Methods. Hydrochemical parameters of these water samples were studied in the laboratory according to appropriate regulatory methods. Potentiometric, gravimetric, photometric and other methods of chemical analysis were used for research. Results of the research. 2 samples of water from the river Seret were taken for laboratory research. One sample was taken upstream near the outlet of the drain pipes of these structures, the second sample - downstream. Based on the obtained numerical results of the analyzes, the efficiency of the city's treatment facilities was assessed. It is shown that the overall water quality in the Seret River downstream after the discharge of the city's wastewater treatment  plants is satisfactory. The levels of nitrates and phosphates in the studied samples are almost on the border of the MPC, but this is not necessarily due to the poor performance of the city's treatment facilities. There are many agricultural lands on the banks of the river, which often use nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers. Significant exceeding of the limit value for chemical oxygen consumption can be explained by the warm season (September). At this time, a lot of biological organic matter has accumulated in natural reservoirs. Conclusions. As a result of researches it is established that treatment facil-ities of the city of Ternopil work in a regular mode and provide sufficient sewage treatment. According to open sources, the annual dynamics of the mentioned treatment facilities is shown. As a result, it has been found that since 2017, the efficiency of the city's wastewater treatment at sewage treatment plants remains stable. Such indicators testify to the sufficient efficiency of the treatment facilities of the Ternopilvodokanal utility company.

This paper analyzed various water pollutants, their emissions and emissions concentration depending on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Technical reform in an electrical company. It evaluated the capacity of implementing technical reform in this company’s wastewater treatment station and the feasibility of stability up to the discharge standard in order to find the reason Ni, one of the first class of pollutants, which was discharged by the outlets of plating factory sewage treatment facilities exceeded the standard in GB8978-1996 “Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard”. In addition, this paper proposed a reasonable treatment program which made the drainage of the wastewater treatment station reaching the standard requirements. From this paper, it reflected the important role the environmental impact assessment played to provide a technical guidance for environmental management in the technical reform project.

The problems of resource conservation in the reconstruction of sewage treatment facilities were studied. The characteristic of modern aerators is given. It provides an assessment of the effectiveness of low pressure aeration in modern conditions with the use of new designs aerators and high-pressure fans. The results of calculations for immersion aerator range of 0.5 to 6 m in the total air flow, mass transfer and capacity characteristics are given. It is shown that the minimum cost of power comes with a depth of placement of aerators, equal to one meter. It has been observed that a decrease in the depth of immersion aerator is reduced. It is noted that such a design facilitates access to aerators during operation. The advantage of the high-pressure fans in comparison with low-pressure, nonadjustable blower is shown.

This article presents a detailed analysis of the functioning of municipal sewage treatment plants. The presented findings are based on questionnaires from over seventy wastewater treatment facilities, covering from several hundred to several hundred thousand inhabitants. The required quality of treated sewage and the necessary efficiency level of the treatment plant were determined in the context of the content of the applicable regulations, and were then compared with the actual data obtained from sewage treatment plants. The findings provided the basis for formulating an evaluation of the efficiency of municipal sewage treatment plants and for further analyses of the possibility of the recovery of water from sewage and its reuse.

This paper provides primarily a discussion of the instrumentation, control and automation aspects of improving the efficiency of certain wastewater treatment facilities including control and operation of sewerage systems, primary and secondary sewage treatment and sludge handling and disposal. Relevant aspects of the activities of the recently constituted IAWPRC's Instrumentation Group receive brief mention including its activities in the areas of evaluation of existing sensors and systems, their relevance to particular needs, attributes and deficiencies, and also in the area of promotion of relevant research and development. A brief appraisal and description of existing sensors and systems, an indication of their usefulness to date and details of alternative instrumentation configurations for use in the enhancement of their general utility is provided. Relevant research and development is reviewed, including relevant remote sensing aspects, and developments in micro electronics and computing: finally some new horizons are explored.

Introduction. The article considers the definition of the key components of operating costs at wastewater treatment plants with a capacity of 1 to 100 thousand cubic meters per day by modeling using specialized software. Materials and methods. In the study, two technological cleaning schemes were investigated — the conventional line-up with biological aeration reactor and secondary clarifier and the scheme of biological aeration reactor with submerged membrane bioreactor for sludge separation. The other structures for the two facilities were identical. Since it was important to obtain results that could be used at real facilities, the values of concentrations of major pollutants typical for urban wastewater before treatment, as well as technological parameters of operation, were used as initial data for calculations. Results. As the results of calculations, the values of concentrations of pollutants in wastewater after treatment using both technological schemes and the values of the required volumes for the arrangement of biological treatment facilities and the area occupied by them were obtained and analyzed. Operating costs were considered in terms of electricity costs for the operation of biological treatment facilities and treatment facilities in General, as well as the specific cost of electricity for treatment 1 m3 of wastewater. In addition, the cost of purchasing membrane modules was calculated, which can be classified as operational due their replacement frequency of approximately every 7–10 years. Conclusions. The results of the study showed that application of membrane technologies at the stage of secondary treatment could have a significant potential for the reconstruction of wastewater treatment plants in conditions of increased productivity and limited opportunities for expanding the area.

A stable group of birds has been formed at water treatment facilities. Sewage treatment sites are a well-known nesting place for long-legged waders. Black-winged stilts are included in the Bonn (Appendix II) and Berne (Appendix II) conventions, the AEWA agreement. Listed in the Red Book of Ukraine (1994, 2009) (status – vulnerable). In Ukraine, it is under protection on the territory of the natural reserve fund. The arrival of black-winged stilts waders at the nesting sites was recorded in the second-third decade of April (April 23, 2020; April 17, 2021). Immediately after returning to the nesting areas, the birds begin to build nests and lay eggs. The first eggs in this population were seen on 01.05.2020, 07.05.2021. The process of laying eggs lasted until the end of the first decade of July (08.07.2020). The average clutch size in the nests of Himantopus himantopus decreased from 3.8 ± 0.1 (2020) to 3.5 ± 0.1 (2021). The average egg sizes and their limits have been determined for long-legged waders. The chicks hatched from late May (30.05.2020), throughout June to the first decade of July (02.07.2020). The chicks were able to fly in a month – 29.06.2020. The muddy site of the wastewater treatment ponds of Kharkiv supported Black-winged Stilts until early August. Later, the birds started post-breeding movements. The last adults with juvenile birds were observed on 13.08.2020. Stilts in some years may stay until early October. The reproductive success of the black-winged stilt increased from 35.6% (2020) to 38.8% (2021). On average, 1.3 ± 0.2 (2020) and 1.4 ± 0.3 (2021) chicks fledged from the nests. In 2021, the number of nesting stilts increased, which is apparently due to rainy weather at the beginning of the reproductive period. For the purpose of more effective protection, the nesting settlements of the stilt should be protected and the appearance of people in the nesting places should be prohibited.

Abstract:Phosphorus is a major substance that is needed especially for agricultural production or for the industry. At the same time it is an important component of wastewater. At present, the waste management priority is recycling and this requirement is also transferred to wastewater treatment plants. Substances in wastewater can be recovered and utilized. In Europe (in Germany and Austria already legally binding), access to phosphorus-containing sewage treatment is changing. This paper dealt with the issue of phosphorus on the sewage treatment plant in Nitra. There are several industrial areas in Nitra where record major producers in phosphorus production in sewage. The new wastewater treatment plant is built as a mechanicalbiological wastewater treatment plant with simultaneous nitrification and denitrification, sludge regeneration, an anaerobic zone for biological phosphorus removal at the beginning of the process and chemical phosphorus precipitation. The sludge management is anaerobic sludge stabilization with heating and mechanical dewatering of stabilized sludge and gas management. The aim of the work was to document the phosphorus balance in all parts of the wastewater treatment plant - from the inflow of raw water to the outflow of purified water and the production of excess sludge. Balancing quantities in the wastewater treatment plant treatment processes provide information where efficient phosphorus recovery could be possible. The mean daily value of P tot is approximately 122.3 kg/day of these two sources. The mean daily value of P tot is approximately 122.3 kg/day of these two sources. There are also two outflows - drainage of cleaned water to the recipient - the river Nitra - 9.9 kg Ptot/day and Ptot content in sewage sludge - about 120.3 kg Ptot/day - total 130.2 kg Ptot/day.
