Background &objectives Though there are studies to evaluate the effectiveness of blended learning in pharmacy education, most of them originate from USA and have used previous year students’ scores as control. Also there is less research in comparing use of self -regulated learning strategies between blended and other learning strategies. Primary aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of blended learning on knowledge score using clinical research modules. Secondary objective was designed to compare the use of self-regulated learning strategies between blended learning, web-based e-learning and didactic teaching. Materials and methods A prospective cluster randomized trial was conducted with didactic teaching as control and web-based e-learning and blended learning as interventions. The target population was final year Pharm D students. Outcome was assessed using a validated knowledge questionnaire, a motivated strategies for learning questionnaire and a feedback form. All statistical analyses were carried out using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 20. Results A total of 241 students from 12 colleges completed the study. Mean knowledge score of students in blended learning group was higher than those in the didactic teaching and web- based e- learning program (64.26±18.19 Vs 56.65±8.73 Vs 52.11±22.06,p<0.001).Frequency of use of learning strategies namely rehearsal, elaboration, organization and critical thinking was statistically significantly higher in the blended learning group compared to those of didactic and web-based e-learning group (p<0.05) But there were no statistically significant difference of motivational orientations between didactic and blended learning group except strategies of extrinsic goal orientation and self-efficacy. Students preferred blended learning (86.5%) over didactic and web-based e-learning. Conclusion Blended learning approach is an effective way to teach clinical research module. Students of blended learning group employed all motivational and learning strategies more often than students of the didactic and web- based e-learning groups except strategies of intrinsic goal orientation, task value, control of learning belief and help seeking.

Electronic Learning (E-Learning) has been widely used as a complement to the traditional learning method. It includes the introduction of blended learning (BL) that fully utilises the use of Learning Management System (LMS). The aim of this study is to examine students’ acceptance of blended learning specifically with the use of Openlearning (OL) as an online learning platform to complement traditional teaching. 137 students had participated in this study. OL was introduced to the Health Sciences students, who enrolled in the Principles of Nutrition course. Students explored teaching materials, videos, activities, and several assessments in OL while facilitated by facilitators for 14 weeks. A self-administered questionnaire was given via online to the participants to evaluate their attitudes and acceptance towards OL. Descriptive statistic was used to describe the demographic data and t-test was performed to report the level of acceptance. Overall results showed students were very satisfied with blended learning using OpenLearning as a web-based tool. Students accepted OL as it is easy to use and convenient. They also agreed that the usage of OL in teaching and learning will improve their academic performance. In conclusion, it is proven that Health Sciences students accepted the use of OL in blended learning.

Abstract: This study was aimed to examine the effect of the instructional learning strategy (webbased STAD-type cooperative and text-based STAD-type cooperative learning strategies) and learning styles towards student learning achievement. This quasi-experimental study used a non-equivalent control group version of the factorial design. The subjects were the first-semester undergraduate students of Information Systems at STIKOM Surabaya. Sixty-nine (69) students were involved, 34 of whom were the subjects of the experimental group and 35 were the subjects of the control group. The collected data were statistically analyzed by using the two-way analysis of variance technique (ANOVA) with the significance level of 0.05. The findings of this research indicate that there was a significant difference in learning achievement, for the General Management course, between groups of students taught with the web-based STAD-type cooperative learning strategies and those taught with the text-based STAD-type cooperative learning strategies. Based on the findings, the researcher suggests lecturers to implement the STAD-type cooperative learning strategies, and use the web-based and text-based strategies simultaneously (complementarily) in the form of blended learning. Keywords: learning strategy, STAD type cooperative, web based learning, learning styles, learning outcomes PEMBELAJARAN KOOPERATIF BERBASIS WEB, GAYA BELAJAR, DAN HASIL BELAJAR MAHASISWA Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh strategi pembelajaran (kooperatif tipe STAD berbasis web vs kooperatif tipe STAD berbasis teks) dan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa. In the era of instant communication, today, learning and instructional process has changed. This condition has led learning into a new era called e-learning, where learning process can be facilitated with proper use of information and communication technology. Combining information and communication technology appropriately to facilitate learning has become an impportant issue in e-learning design context. Therefore, we need such a kind of framework as a guidance in selecting and determining the appropritae blended learning strategy to address the learning objectives to be achieved. The framework offered in this article refered to the essential concept of e-learning itself, four quadrants of learning seting offered by Noord, two continuum of instructional strategy offerd by Smaldino et. al., and four standard of e-learning process adapted by author from the work of Norton. The framework offered are that in designing blended learning, we should consider the following aspects: 1) efforts to facilitate learning experiences as the essence of e-learning; 2) optimalization of the four learning process standard in the context of e-learning; 3) selection and determination of appropriate learning strategies; and 4) selection and determination of apropriate learning seting and ICTs used in four quadrants of learning seting.

The Mathematics Modelling and Tools (MMT) e-learning system is a platform used for supporting lectures and tutoring at the Vienna University and Technology. Additionally to traditional e-learning properties like up- and download of lecture notes, videos and slides the MMT system provides the surface for a virtual modelling and simulation laboratory. Very powerful calculation software like MATLAB, Java or Octave, running in behind, allows experimenting with targeted modelling and simulation examples prepared and developed by experts. These are first of all used to support the presentation directly at the lecture and can afterwards be accessed by students given a password at home. As especially MATLAB also allows development of suitable examples dealing with mathematics, so far about ten percent of all examples treat this specific topic and are used in math lectures. It showed that especially the live experience fiddling on pre-implemented examples poses a big improvement for lectures.

Since March 2020, all schools in Nigeria have been closed to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This paper presents the case study of the e-learning strategies adopted by Kaduna State University to reduce the educational disruption during these unprecedented times. As the University had no established e-learning resources, there was a need for prompt training of staff in online teaching. The online teaching methods to be adopted came with their fair share of challenges as e-learning activities had not been taking place at the University prior to the emergence of COVID-19. The University, with the full support of the state government, were making plans to ensure a fixed structure for the integration of e-learning into the syllabus. This case study provides some recommendations that could be adopted by similar institutions that have no previous e-learning structures. The COVID-19 pandemic has opened up opportunities to upgrade the educational mode of delivery and shown the need to embrace emerging technologies.

In this chapter we present our work aimed at interweaving e-learning and face-to-face learning in Calculus courses for undergraduate engineering students. This type of blended learning (BL) contains the best properties of e-learning and face-to-face learning and helps overcome many obstacles in traditional teaching. We use our approach in order to improve students’ conceptual understanding of theorems. We describe online assignments specifically designed to help students better understand the meaning of a theorem. These assignments are given to students in addition to traditional lectures and tutorials with the objective that they can learn to learn on their own. Students “discover” the theorem and study it independently, by using a “bank” of examples and a lot of theoretical exercises we supply. The assignments are built in such a way that students receive feedback and instructions in response to their Web-based activity.

Web-based learning environments have become an integral part of learning. The way that they are employed in the learning process, or in other words the learning strategy followed in that respect, is an important issue that has to be carefully thought of, deciding upon topics such as suitable pedagogical approaches and appropriate assessment techniques for a given context. The chapter deals with this exact issue by visiting the relevant literature on the subject, describing selected learning strategies that have been employed in the use of an innovative eLearning platform in schools in Europe and finally outlining and comparing two real case studies from two European countries.
