The demand for electricity has increased substantially while the expansion of electricity generation, power transmission is very limited, due to environmental restrictions, consequently some transmission lines, limiting power factor. Power flow in the generation system, covering the area of North Sumatra and Aceh which is managed by PT. PLN (Persero), ETAP 4.0 (Electrical Transient Analizer Program) is a program that can display GUI (Graphical User Interface) with unlimited bus number, ETAP 4.0 is useful for Power flow study. The data required by ETAP 4.0 on a generation system is a one-line diagram, nominal kV, and generator, bus, transformer, transmission, and safety rating. The power flow approach method used is the Newton-Raphson method with maximum iteration of 99 and the accuracy of 0.000001. The problem of power flows under consideration is the normal state system, one transmission is disconnected, one of the plants is not operating. The results of the power flow study for each problem obtained the lowest bus voltage, the highest losses in the transmis. The largest power distributed in power plants, new in high voltage transmission, increases the power of power from power to load, changes in voltage problems and improves system stability. This paper aims to verify the capacitor's ability to improve voltage regulation (voltage stability) in electric power transmission systems, from this capacitor simulated using ETAP 4.0 included in Newton-Raphson model.

The existing years power structure is a big composite unified network that contains of n number of buses and hundreds of power plants. The placing of fresh positions or fixing of new generating unites executes many conservation and economic limitations. As an effect, the present transmission lines are more severely stressed than forever before and which in turn can leave power system exposed to instabilities. To continue safety of such systems, it is necessary to design appropriate procedures to expand power system safety and growth voltage stability limitations. In this project the conclusion of three FACTScontrollers – SVC, UPFC and TCSC on voltage stability are studied. The IEEE-14 bus system is simulated with continuation power flow feature of PSAT software. The benefit of this simulated model is to progress a simple, fast and appropriate procedure which can be applied efficiently to improve the voltage stability.

The renewable energy systems (RESs) are an attractive option to electrify the community as they are environment friendly, free of cost, and all-pervading. The efficiency of these energy systems is very low and can be improved by integrating them in parallel. In this paper, hydro (7.5 kW) and solar systems (10 kW) are taken as RESs and connected with the utility grid. Due to the intermittent nature of both the hydro and photovoltaic energy sources, utility grid is connected to the system for ensuring the continuous power flow. The hydro power generation system uses the self excited induction generator (SEIG) and converters. The AC/DC/AC converter is used as interface to connect the hydro turbine to the utility grid to adjust the generated voltage to the utility grid voltage. The solar generation system is the combination of PV array, boost converter, and solar inverter. The control of both the hydro and solar power plants is provided through the constant current controller. The analysis has been done to verify the existence of the proposed system. Results demonstrate that the proposed system is able to be put into service and can feed the community.

The power transfer capability of electric transmission lines are usually limited by large signals ability. Economic factors such as the high cost of long lines and revenue from the delivery of additional power gives strong intensive to explore all economically and technically feasible means of raising the stability limit. On the other hand, the development of effective ways to use transmission systems at their maximum thermal capability. Fast progression in the field of power electronics has already started to influence the power industry. This is one direct out come of the concept of FACTS aspects, which has become feasible due to the improvement realized in power electronic devices in principle the FACTS devices should provide fast control of active and reactive power through a transmission line. The UPFC is a member of the FACTS family with very attractive features. This device can independently control many parameters. This device offers an alternative mean to mitigate transmission system oscillations. It is an important question is the selection of the input signals and the adopted control strategy for this device in order to damp power oscillations in an effective and robust manner. The UPFC parameters can be controlled in order to achieve the maximal desire effect in solving first swing stability problem. This problem appears for bulky power transmission systems with long transmission lines. In this paper a MATLAB Simulink Model is considered with UPFC device to evaluate the performance of Electrical Transmission System of 22 kV and 33kV lines. In the simulation study, the UPFC facilitates the real time control and dynamic compensation of AC transmission system. The dynamic simulation is carried out in conjunction with the N-R power flow solution sequence. The updated voltages at each N-R iterative step are interpreted as dynamic variables. The relevant variables are input to the UPFC controllers.

The power transmission lines are the link between power plants and the points of consumption, through substations. Most importantly, the assessment of damaged aerial power lines and rusted conductors is of extreme importance for public safety; hence, power lines and associated components must be periodically inspected to ensure a continuous supply and to identify any fault and defect. To achieve these objectives, recently, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used; in fact, they provide a safe way to bring sensors close to the power transmission lines and their associated components without halting the equipment during the inspection, and reducing operational cost and risk. In this work, a drone, equipped with multi-modal sensors, captures images in the visible and infrared domain and transmits them to the ground station. We used state-of-the-art computer vision methods to highlight expected faults (i.e., hot spots) or damaged components of the electrical infrastructure (i.e., damaged insulators). Infrared imaging, which is invariant to large scale and illumination changes in the real operating environment, supported the identification of faults in power transmission lines; while a neural network is adapted and trained to detect and classify insulators from an optical video stream. We demonstrate our approach on data captured by a drone in Parma, Italy.

Vietnam\'s electricity system has been increasingly invested in development, meeting the growth rate of energy consumption demand in all socio-economic aspects. In particular, the energization and commission of solar and wind power plants greatly affect the stability and safety of the Vietnam power system. To improve the system\'s stability when incidents occur, one of the current solutions is to coordinate relay calibration settings which have a rapid reaction time at all voltage levels. To meet the above requirements, an option is to use Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) with fast processing speed, reduced latency, and multiple functions with intelligent algorithms. In addition, the solution to coordinate the protection areas between IEDs is being concerned. This paper presents the coordination of Permissive Over-Reaching Transfer Trip (POTT) interlock function of SEL 311L relay for power transmission lines to reduce the fault clearing time compared to the traditional calculation method.

Flexible alternating current transmission systems are used since nearly four decades and present very good dynamic performances. The purpose of this work is to study the behaviour of a system where static compensator (STATCOM) is located at the midpoint of a long transmission line functioning in disturbed modes with various levels of load caused by tripping and then, reclosing of the incoming station breaker. The studied model and starting from the analysis of various alternatives will lead to the checking of the aptitude of the STATCOM to maintain the voltage plan and to improve the power flow in electro-energetic system which is the east region of Algerian 400 kV transmission network. The steady state performance of STATCOM’s controller is analysed through computer simulations with MATLAB/Simulink program. The simulation results have demonstrated that STATCOM can be effectively applied in power transmission systems to solve the problems of poor dynamic performance and voltage regulation.   Keywords: STATCOM, reactive power, power flow, voltage plan, breaker automatic recloser.

Now days’ electrical power requirement has enlarged expanding as expansion & restructuring of electrical power system (PS) for generation & transmission in power sector is critically limited due to current resources & environmental circumstances. As outcome, approximately of corridors of power transmission overhead lines are greatly loaded & congested. Also major issue of power system voltage stability becomes power transfer restricted and capability issue. A Modern power electronics technology FATCS considered device Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) is VSC demanded series FACTS equipment. Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is to manage power flow (PF), voltage magnitude & phase angle. In this research paper suggested to maintain voltage magnitude as well as PF of faulty lines. The consequence of mutation of PS parameters like voltage, phase angle, active power, reactive power, & overall power factor with & without SSSC & UPFC have also incorporated. Assessment of PS safety is essential in society to expand customs to sustain system functions when one or more components fail. A PS is "secure" when it can defy loss of one or more ingredients & still go on working without major problems. The Contingency event investigation technique is taken to identify electrical node PF in faulty transmission lines (TL). The Performance of PS has been tested on IEEE 14-Bus System.

Power-flow studies are of great significance in planning and designing the future expansion of power systems as well as in determining the best operation of existing systems. Technologies such as renewables and power electronics are aiding in power conversion and control, thus making the power system massive, complex, and dynamic. HVDC is being preferred due to limitations in HVAC such as reactive power loss, stability, current carrying capacity, operation and control. The HVDC system is being used for bulk power transmission over long distances with minimum losses using overhead transmission lines or submarine cable crossings. Recent years have witnessed an unprecedented growth in the number of the HVDC projects. Due to the vast size and inaccessibility of transmission systems, real time testing can prove to be difficult. Thus analyzing power system stability through computer modeling and simulation proves to be a viable solution in this case. The motivation of this project is to construct and analyze the load flow and short circuit behavior in an IEEE 14 bus power system with DC link using MATLAB software. This involves determining the parameters for converter transformer, rectifier, inverter and DC cable for modelling the DC link. The line chosen for incorporation of DC link is a weak bus. This project gives the results of load flow and along with comparison of reactive power flow, system losses, voltage in an AC and an AC-DC system.
