Eugenics is the selection of desired heritable characteristics in order to improve future generations, typically in reference to humans. The article is about eugenics in historical, biological and educational aspects. The historical aspect is elaborated on and includes early eugenics, eugenics organizations, popular support for eugenics, and anti-eugenics sentiments. Despite the dropping of the term eugenics, eugenic ideas remained prevalent in many issues concerning human reproduction and genetic intervention. “New Eugenics” is a fact. “New Eugenics” includes education. Does it really?

Madhubani art of the Bihar state has been undergoing transition where its application in original composition has been declined owing to social and economic changes now-a-days. There is need to explore possibilities for the conservation of this art form viz other artistic media for future generations. The reason for using traditional motifs in textiles is to keep our designs or motifs alive. The Indian folk arts with painting play important role in creating new designs. Escalating demands of consumers requires modification in the fashion industry with respect to design, colour, style and technique. So in an effort to add another dimension in the application of Madhubani designs on textiles, the present study was planned. The effort was targeted towards finding the possibility of applying Madhubani designs on textile articles utilizing the hand painting. Madhubani motifs/designs were adapted for center design and border design. Total thirty six motifs / designs were developed keeping in mind their suitability for articles like cushion cover, folder and table cloth. Developed design sheets were subjected to visual evaluation for selection of one best design in each category by the panel of thirty respondents to find out the suitability of the developed designs for hand painting. Finally three articles were prepared by using selected designs and these prepared articles were highly appreciated by the respondents.

SynopsisThe paper is divided into five sections. The first deals with the historical aspect of mortgage lending and the reasons which, over some 200 years, have modified the percentage of life funds applied in this way.The second section considers the place of this type of investment in the modern portfolio—particularly in the light of changing ideas on the relation of assets to liabilities. In the third section, the importance of the selection of suitable loans is stressed, and the general principles which should govern this discussed. The fourth section details certain classes of security and the factors affecting transactions in each class. In the concluding part, the author deals with the essentials of the mortgage contract.

In a little noted passage in A Theory of Justice, John Rawls argued that genetic intervention in the traits of offspring may be morally required as a matter of distributive justice. Given that the “greater natural assets” of each “enables him to pursue a preferred plan of life[,]” Rawls wrote, the parties to the original position “want to insure for their descendents the best genetic endowment.…Thus over time a society is to take steps at least to preserve the general level of natural abilities and to prevent the diffusion of serious defects.…The pursuit of reasonable policies in this regard is something that earlier generations owe to later ones.” (Emphasis added.) Whether biological enhancement actually is a moral obligation we owe to future generations is a question that I have taken up elsewhere, but which lies beyond my scope here. If we agree with Rawls that some measure of safe and effective genetic intervention may be required as a matter of justice, it stands to ask how the distribution of genetic goods – that is, the hereditary basis of human traits – should be carried out.

The quality of education as a pillar of human resource development, closely related to management at educational institutions. Quality education will arise if quality schools, which can not be separated from the management properly. The quality of education is not independent of inputs, processes, outputs or outcomes. Therefore, education must be continuously upgraded through a management system that can be accountable to stakeholders in order to be able to prepare future generations who have a competitive advantage in answering and solving the future challenges of the nation in the global era. The reason for choosing in MTs Negeri 2 Palembang because in terms of acceptance of MTs Negeri 2 Palembang receive inputs with the selection of both written tests and test kaji. In the process of education continues to increase the potential of existing teachers proven teachers who have S2 as much as 6 people. Outputs issued can penetrate state high school and Madrasah Aliyah Negeri and students who excel, therefore MTs Negeri 2 Palembang can be used as a model

The inhabitants of separate CR regions show varying demographic behaviour that presents itself in the demographic measures´ values. The paper offers a comparison of the development of selected measures of size and movement of the population in the regions of CR in 1993 and 2006 years. Attention is paid to the changes in measures of economic and biological structure, life expectancy and some of the measures of human reproduction, patterns of growth and migration. Multivariate analysis methods have been employed for the solution. Selection of variables has been carried out in each year using factor analysis and similarity of the regions has been described by the hierarchic agglomerative clustering method. During the thirteen years, changes occurred in demographic behaviour of the regions. Currently the Capital Prague and the Středočeský Region differ significantly. All the regions remaining have been stabilized as concerns the demographic measures and they show homogeneity.

AbstractConservation of cultural heritage is nowadays a very important aspect of our lives. Thanks to such legacy we gain knowledge about our ancestors, methods of production and ways of their life. The rapid development of 3D technology allows for more and more faithful reflection of this area of life. The rich cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible, can be preserved for future generations due to the use of advanced 3d technologies. They provide the means of documenting, recovering and presenting items of cultural heritage. Not only buildings or monuments are taken into account. An important aspect of our culture is intangible cultural heritage (ICH), including acting, crafting or storytelling, passed down from generation to generation. Due to the rapid development of civilisation and the migration of people, this type of culture is often forgotten. That is why the preservation of ICH is an important element of today world. The main aim of this study, on the basis of the gathered papers, is to identify: (1) the general state of use of 3D digital technologies in ICH; (2) the topics and themes discussed; (3) the technologies used in the study; (4) locations of research centres conducting such studies; and (5) the types of research carried out. The methodology consists of the following main steps: defining study questions, searching query development, selection of publications in Scopus, Web of Knowledge and IEEE Xplore, finally the study execution and the analysis of the obtained results. The results show that for ICH the most often used technologies are: 3D visualisation, 3D modelling, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and motion capture systems.

The character, modes, and forms of artistic expression in any epoch are in many ways governed by prevailing intellectual and philosophical points of view. What is considered ‘ good taste ’ by the patron of painting, poetry or music will often seem quite incredible to future generations because intellectual bases of perception and appreciation change so inexorably and often so quickly. If the final judgment about what is satisfying (not to mention ‘ beautiful ’) in a work of art must finally be left to each individual to decide for whatever reasons he feels important, this in no way alters the fact that a work of any period can be seen to exhibit aspects that are characteristic of its creator and audience. By studying a selection of works from a historical period, we are able better to understand not only the works themselves, but at least some particular characteristics of those who produced them, and those for whom they were intended. In a comparative study of the arts we will most quickly reach productive ends using what Erwin Panofsky terms an Iconological approach, a search for ‘ intrinsic meaning and content ’. This angle of vision looks to underlying principles to reveal important generalizations about attitudes of nations, periods, classes, or religions, or philosophical persuasions ‘ unconsciously qualified by one personality and condensed into one work ’. The scholar's work becomes synthetic, rather than just analytic. In the search, one must recover and ponder the ‘ intrinsic meaning ’ of every document of civilization available which relates to the work under consideration. Panofsky mentions specifically the areas of politics, poetry, religion, philosophy, and social tendencies of personality, period and country.

Historical Aspect; concerning the Civil Liberals against GrundtvigBy Poul DamFor eleven years, viz. 1826-1837, Grundtvig had to submit all that he wanted to publish in Denmark to the public censor. A prolific and serious writer like Grundtvig must necessarily have felt this as highly embarrassing, and many of his biographers have painted his ordeal in dark colours, in fact much darker than Grundtvig did himself.Certain facts have indeed been misunderstood to such an extent that even very competent writers have believed and repeated distorted and/or simplified renderings of the actual background. In 1826 Grundtvig published a very harsh attack on a book by the theologian H.N. Clausen, who reacted by bringing a civil libel case against Grundtvig. The court found him guilty of using unseemly language, but not of libelling Clausen, and fined him quite leniently. The probably unforeseen consequence of the sentence, which is quoted in full in the article, was, however, to make Grundtvig subject to lifelong censorship. This was not mentioned at all in the court proceedings, however, since it followed without in all cases when the accused was not acquitted completely. Consequently Grundtvig was not actually sentenced to censorship. The law was modified in 1837 in such a way that Grundtvig could ask to be exempted from censorship, and this happened towards the end of that year. His first book after that to be published without the despicable »imprimatur« of the censor contained a rather long poem about the mother tongue, quite literally defined as the tongue of the mother, of women. A short selection of the verses from this poem has been used as a »national« song praising the Danish language, and this may explain why some writers believe the poem to have been written in a joyful mood directly after the lifting of the censorship. That is an unsubstantiated and more than doubtful construction, however, as nothing in the poem points to a connection with Grundtvig’s actual experiences in 1837.In addition, the article stresses that Grundtvig and Clausen did not remain enemies for life, as many writers have suggested. Both of them came to regard the bitter fight of 1826 as something to regret.

States or coalitions may conduct intervention operations to stabilise weak or failing states. Intervening powers often use military or police forces to impose security while development agencies rebuild the affected state’s institutions, including the Rule of Law. However, recent experience suggests that interventions may perpetuate criminal conduct. This paper examines the NATO missions in Afghanistan and other interventions to suggest links between partnering with corrupt or criminal actors and subsequent setbacks in stabilisation. It then proposes strategies by which future intervention forces may mitigate the risks of perpetuating criminal conduct. The paper asserts that intervention forces may empower criminal actors inadvertently or deliberately. It suggests that criminal allies may offer apparent security gains, and command popular support; and may be the only allies available. However, it concludes that perpetuating crime and corruption undermines the legitimacy of the affected state’s government and the intervention force, and potentially enables state capture. These outcomes may perpetuate violence. The paper suggests that intervention forces may mitigate these risks by setting clear priorities, planning against all potential threats including organised criminals, linking aid to the achievement of governance objectives, delaying transition until the affected state’s institutions are ready, and conducting deep selection of future leaders.
