Abstract An inclined flow channel instrument that can be developed to be a structurally simple and easy-to-use rheometer was applied to control the thickness, specifically the viscosity and elasticity, of liquids thickened to support swallowing in nursing-care practice. Aqueous solutions containing salt or acid, which might be used as ingredients in drinks, were thickened with a commercial thickener. The thickener efficacy decreased because of the salt or acid in liquid phase. Analysis of the flows in the instrument by experimentation yielded a dimensionless relation representing changes of the Deborah number in the flow process, as indicated by the relative flow length, considering the shear rate in oral processing. One unique methodology to evaluate the viscoelasticities of thickened liquids during the swallowing process was presented utilizing the measurements such as elapsed time and velocity in the instrument.

AbstractTo evaluate the non-Newtonian viscosities of liquid foods thickened for assistance of swallowing in nursing-care practice, an inclined flow channel instrument was investigated for development into a structurally simple and easy-to-use viscometer. Experimental analysis of the flows of Newtonian and non-Newtonian test liquids in the instrument derived a dimensionless relation expressing changes of the friction coefficient in the flow process which was indicated by the relative flow length, considering the shear rate level in the swallowing process. A methodology to evaluate uniquely the viscosities of liquid foods undergoing the swallowing process was presented using the measurements such as the flow length and velocity in the instrument.

Abstract Aromatherapy is a Practical or Complementary Health Therapy that uses volatile concentrates extracted from plants called essential oils, in order to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being. Aromatherapy has been practiced historically and worldwide by nurses and, as in Brazil is supported by the Federal Nursing Council, it is relevant to discuss this practice in the context of Nursing through Theories of Nursing. This study of theoretical reflection, exploratory and descriptive, aims to discuss the pharmacognosy of essential oils, the historical trajectory of Aromatherapy in Nursing and the conceptions to support Aromatherapy in light of eight Nursing Theorists (Florence Nightingale, Myra Levine, Hildegard Peplau, Martha Rogers, Callista Roy, Wanda Horta, Jean Watson and Katharine Kolcaba), contributing to its inclusion as a nursing care practice.

The aim of this study was to describe the information needs of patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery in Western Lithuania. Methods. This data were collected from patients of three Klaipeda city hospitals performing digestive tract surgeries in January – March 2015. The interview responses (n = 86) were analyzed inductively with thematic content analysis. Results. The interview revealed lack of information about disease, treatment and nursing care. The participants expressed fear and worries about their forthcoming surgery, anesthesia, pain, the ways of pain management, possible complications and their prevention as well as the future concerning their disease in general. Conclusions. The results show that the participants had not got enough information about treatment, nursing, anesthesia, rehabilitation, wound care or about post-surgery period. Instead they felt fear and anxiety. The participants were not included into treatment and nursing processes. According to the participants’ responses, the information needs were different before and after the surgery. Lack of information prevents patients from acting self-dependently in their care. Practice implications. Patient oriented approach to patient education and innovative ways of information delivery are needed in Lithuanian nursing care of patient’s having a gastrointestinal surgery.

Kata kunci : Hipertensi, Hydrotherapy Air Hangat, Kualitas Tidur, Lansia.ABSTRACKElderly with sleep quality disturbance needs to get attention with specific strategies and techniques in solving the problems. The implementation of warm water hydrotherapy is one of the right choices. The research objective was to get an overview about nursing care of an elderly namely Mrs. R who has hypertension in the implementation of warm water hydrotherapy to improve sleep quality in Gitgit Sari Hamlet, RT 000 / RW 001, Balinggi Village, Balinggi Sub- District, ParigiMoutong District.  Descriptive case study research design, respondent was 1 person, data was collected by interview, observation and physical examination, the instrument used is the PSQI assessment format and laboratory thermometer. Data analysis used is data reduction, presentation and conclusion. The intervention carried out was the implementation of warm watersoaking feet hydrotherapy. The conclusion of the nursing evaluation after conducting nursing action for 3 meetings a week showed that the client's sleep quality improved. It is hoped that from the results of case study in nursing care of the implementation of warm water hydrotherapy can be applied in home care practice for the assistedelderly ofNursing Academy of the Salvation Army Palu (Akper BK Palu). Keywords: Nursing Care, Hypertension, Warm Water Hydrotherapy, Sleep Quality, Elderly

ABSTRACT Objective: To know the beliefs, values and practices of families in the care of hospitalized children. Method: Qualitative study developed at the Pediatrics Unit of a University Hospital in southern Brazil through non-participant observation, participant observation and interview with children’s family members. The methodological framework of Ethnonursing was adopted. Data were coded, classified and scrutinized to identify saturation of similar or different ideas and patterns, and recoded by making theoretical formulations and recommendations. Results: Beliefs, values and practices of families depend on cultural references and are manifested in the care with feeding, clothing and hygiene, maintenance of sleep and rest, presence, care with medication and exercise of religious belief. Conclusion: Family members care for the hospitalized child based on their cultural reference and it is important that nurses take this aspect into consideration during care practice. Cultural care aggregates knowledge and can be considered a new paradigm for nursing care that allows an affective, reflective, human, empathic relationship between nurse/child/family.
