This study examined communication strategies used by Indonesian national movements to teach media information literacy as an endeavour to fight hoaxes. The in-depth online interview and content analysis had been employed to investigate approaches of the movement to campaign media information literacy competence to society. The findings reveal that the offline communication has been massively applied by the movement to establish direct engagement to give a comprehensive understanding. Moreover, in the case of online communication, the content of Instagram shows that the movements predominantly use Instagram for marketing tools which post much information related to offline activities, instead of educated contents that contain media information literacy understanding. This study suggests that educating media information literacy through online communication should be prioritised, as 140 million Indonesians are active social media users, dominated by the youth aged 18-24 who are prone to be attacked by fake news.

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, misinformation and unscientific interpretations flooded the internet. Seeking credible information in Egypt was paramount at the time. An answer to this quest was ‘Ask Nameesa’, an award-winning Egyptian-focused chatbot that utilizes Facebook Messenger to communicate with social media users in an individualized response engagement. It relies on information validated by WHO and the Egyptian Ministry of Health. This article examines the structure of Ask Nameesa as an example of infobots and studies the interactive engagement it offers users to provide health information. The study analyses data gathered by interviewing the founder and CEO of DXwand, the company that developed Ask Nameesa as well as content analysis of conversations with Ask Nameesa to assess its user engagement. The study aims at understanding the potential Ask Nameesa has in providing information literacy and tackling public demand for information.

Comparative studies are rare in the study of online communication campaigning. The authors chose two cases, Poland and France, to describe the two campaigns for the Parliamentary elections. Content analysis allowed the authors to detect online communication strategies and parties' attempt to reach different audiences. Web-cartography illustrates the parties' network connections. The authors find strong cross-country and resource-based differences for the more interactive and engaging features (Web 2.0), which are not that powerful for explaining audience-targeting strategies. Overall a sales strategy and a focus on marketing dominated over e-representation (exhibiting the parties' political record). In both countries social media platforms are well incorporated into online strategies. Facebook dominates in Poland, Twitter in France. Web cartography gives a counterintuitive picture of the Polish parties' network being much more personalized but also of more ghettoing within the supporting environment.

Crowdfunding is a new method in fundraising activities based online. Moreover, the level of penetration of social media to the community is increasingly high. This makes social activists and academics realize that it is important to study social media communication strategies in crowdfunding activities. There is encouragement to provide an overview of crowdfunding activities. This article is based on a case study of the online media practices of the militant neo-Nazi organization the Nordic Resistance Movement, currently the biggest and most active extreme-right actor in Scandinavia. I trace a recent turn to humor, irony, and ambiguity in their online communication and the increasing adaptation of stylistic strategies and visual aesthetics of the Alt-Right inspired by online communities such as 4chan, 8chan, Reddit, and Imgur. Drawing on a visual content analysis of memes ( N = 634) created and circulated by the organization, the analysis explores the place of humor, irony, and ambiguity across these cultural expressions of neo-Nazism and how ideas, symbols, and layers of meaning travel back and forth between neo-Nazi and Alt-right groups within Sweden today.

While the impact of fake news on viewers, particularly marginalized media users, has been a cause of growing concern, there has been little attention paid to the phenomenon of deliberately “manipulated” news published on social media by mainstream news publishers. Using qualitative content analysis and quantitative survey research, this study showed that consciously biased animated news videos released in the midst of the Umbrella Movement protests in Hong Kong impacted on both the attitudes of students and their participation in the protests. The findings raise concerns over potential use of the format by media owners to promote their preferred ideologies.

Threats to reputation can destroy a brand. Communicating effectively during a conflict can help to manage negative impressions that expose brands to reputation risk. This is important now more than ever as organizations—and nations—turn to Twitter to address various publics. The rigid 140-character structure of Twitter thus necessitates the creation of sound bites that act as productive texts to address multiple rhetorical objectives simultaneously. An examination of the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) Twitter account through sentiment and content analysis shows evidence that the Force took a significantly defensive approach to impression management of Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012. There is evidence that Israel sought to re-frame public impression of its military involvement from aggressor to defender in the armed conflict. Codes discovered in the analysis suggest that the IDF tried to justify force, avoid responsibility and establish legitimacy of its operations.

RESUMOEste estudo teve como problema de pesquisa verificar como blogs/vlogs literários, enquanto meios de comunicação, podem influenciar a escolha leitora. Para isso, selecionou-se o vlog da Ju Cirqueira, blogueira do blog Nuvem Literária, para um estudo de caso. O objetivo geral foi identificar quais estratégias a blogueira utiliza que podem influenciar na escolha literária dos seus seguidores a partir de suas publicações/vídeos. Os objetivos específicos foram verificar as estratégias que a blogueira utiliza para transmitir suas mensagens e criar conexões, e se utiliza algum padrão em seus vídeos. Para tanto, abordou-se questões relacionadas à leitura, texto, práticas de leitura, formação de leitores e ato comunicativo. Os procedimentos metodológicos abrangeram uma parte quantitativa, em que foram destacados números de blogs existentes, perfil dos usuários e categorias de blogs, e uma parte qualitativa em que, por meio de categorização de análise proposta por Jeffman (2015) e de análise de conteúdo, examinou-se dez vídeos do canal da Ju Cirqueira. A partir dos dados coletados, pode-se ter uma amostragem de como são os blogs no Brasil, o perfil do público leitor de blogs e vlogs e características que fazem com que os booktubers fidelizem seus seguidores e, consequentemente, apresentem novas opções de leitura. Entre os padrões utilizados pela blogueira destacam-se a cultura do quarto, as estratégias de comunicação e a cultura de participação.Palavras-chave: Booktubers. Influência literária. Ju Cirqueira. Vlog. Formação do Leitor. ABSTRACTThis study aimed to verify how literary blogs/vlogs, as a means of communication, can influence te choice for reading. To this end, the vlog by Ju Cirqueira, blogger of the blog Nuvem Literária, was chosen for a case study. The goal of the survey was to look at how the blogger influences the literary choice of her followers, what strategies she uses to broadcast her messages and make connections, and whether she uses some pattern in her videos. The focus of the analysis was on concepts pertaining to reading, the text, reading practices, reader training and mass media. There were quantitative methodological procedures in which  numbers of existing blogs, profile of users and categories of blogs were sought; followed by  qualitative procedures carried out through categories of analysis and content analysis to look for patterns in ten videos of the channel of Ju Cirqueira. From the data collected, one can have a sampling of how blogs are in Brazil, the profile of the public readers of blogs and vlogs and characteristics that make booktubers loyal to their followers and, consequently, present new reading options. Among the different languages used in communication, we highlight the culture of the room, the communication strategies and the culture of participation.Keywords: Booktubers. Literacy influence. ABSTRACT Multiple discourses are critical in determining the success of information technology (IT) diffusion. Since its inception, such discourses also appear in the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) diffusion sphere. To help explain XBRL diffusion, we explore the discourses relative to XBRL in social media. A case study with text mining and content analysis was conducted to address three research questions covering community discourses, polarity of viewpoint, and learning surrounding XBRL in social media. Our sample data consisted of members' posts and comments in LinkedIn XBRL groups over the period 2010 to 2013. Our analysis finds that XBRL discourses in social media have largely revolved around the dissemination of XBRL information to raise awareness among potential adopters (i.e., theorization) and to properly implement XBRL (i.e., translation). Our findings indicate that XBRL's theorization is not in doubt, while XBRL's translation remains challenging. Professionals generally view XBRL positively. Those who view XBRL less favorably are more likely to be skeptical rather than dismissive. We also observe that social media like LinkedIn is a relevant channel for communities to learn about XBRL. We discuss the findings and include several insights and implications that may be useful in augmenting the future of XBRL.
